Morals and hypocrisy, McCoist nails it, then asks you to bend over

1156

Do you remember the early days of Celtic Quick News when one wit suggested this was a blog for accountants?  Our early years did a great deal to bring a wider understanding of accounts and finance to Celtic fans – which was a good thing.

Today your fan of Scottish football needs to know about more than the game and amortisation, a semester or two in law school is an enormous advantage.  We touch on legal matters here but last night I enjoyed reading the forensic analysis on the wonderful Duff and Phelps on the Web 3D Law blog.  It’s worth 10 minutes of your day, each day, the most recent blog especially.  I also assume you are all keeping an eye on the substantial thoughts on Paul McConville’s blog.  If not, I want to know why.

So much for accounts and the law, today I want to discuss philosophy with you.

When football-types talk about morality and hypocrisy they are usually worth listening to, if only for comedic value.  Anyone experiencing the Scottish media will not doubt that morality is subjective and chameleon in nature.  This question has exercised great minds for centuries, if only they had the benefit of our effervescent radio luminaries.
Despite being metaphorically surrounded by morally opportunistic hypocrites, Ally McCoist felt so secure in his demands for Rangers that he didn’t dodge the issue yesterday.

When asked if Rangers should be kicked out of the SPL he accepted it “might be the right thing to do morally and people will have their own opinions on it, with differences far and varied.

“There’s an argument the right thing to do is for Rangers to go down to the Third Division and that might be the case if it’s a Newco after liquidation.

“But is it the correct thing to do for Scottish football?  Probably not. Everybody’s got a dilemma and that’s why there are so many opinions on it.

“Whether people like it or not, Rangers and Celtic are different because of the size and magnitude of the two clubs.

“Supporters of other clubs and some Old Firm supporters say you can’t have rules for some clubs and not for others.

“In an ideal world, that would be 100 per cent correct. I would absolutely and totally agree with that.

“But the fact of the matter is we’re asking if it would be good for the rest of the SPL if Rangers went down to the Third Division? The answer has to be no.

“I don’t envy the people who have to make that decision. I can understand the hypocrisy of it but Rangers and Celtic are different.”

Rangers are different – no dispute about that, Ally.  Celtic are different again, but if it is hypocritical and morally wrong to provide support for these clubs which has never been extended to a smaller club, we cannot subvert our sport – and remember, the word SPORT implies that outcomes are determined on a level playing field – Rangers must be treated no differently than Gretna.

And just one correction for Ally: liquidation-and-phoenix would not see Rangers drop to the Third Division.  A Newco in the Third Division would not have dropped from anywhere, it would be a new company and new football team.  Rangers would, in these circumstances, go pop!

One* team in Glasgow,
There’s only one team in Glasgow.
One team in Glasgow,
There’s only one team in Glasgow.

*excluding, juniors, youths, lower leagues, amateurs and Celtic Ladies.

Pop!  And they’re gone!

    Nice reply thanks all true.

I post by mobile phone so it takes me forever to do things and get back to people.

I find over the years l have said all the things l want to say on this site. lt takes something to get me to feel l can add value to what people post as most posters say things far better than l could. I don’t argue with people could now. Used to at the start but Paul67 invited me to go for a beer with him and l realised l was completely wrong. There are three people l don’t bother reading the rest l read intently and learn always.

  5. i hate the bile and hatred that comes from the huns and their cheating, triumphalism, we ara peepil mentality, having to play the ref. i think they deserve the penalties that are coming down the road and im enjoying all the misery, side shows, msm flapping around after their diet of succulent lamb. There are many decent rangers fans, u know them, friends, family, partners, colleagues etc who dont deserve this and didnt sign up for cheating, all they are guilty of is being duped. We were when the whytes and kellys ran our club into the ground and luckily the financial figures were large but managable by fergus mccann there by the grace of god it could have been us. this cameradry/respect unfortunately only comes out on both sides when a legend passes away. However for many of you who have played football at any level and you know that feeling of excitement before playing a game for your team, like nervous energy, or adrenalin whatever you want to call it. lts like an addiction and for want of a better expression and admission, my names paolo and im an old firm junkie, now ive said it. i need the hit it gives me, its a phenomenal high when we win but a massive low when we lose, like a gambler. The anticipation of the game days before, the build up, media analysis, conversations with family and friends, the match day routine, the travel to the match whether it be london, dumbarton, donegal or dublin, the banter, atmosphere, u,ve all been there and many of you will feel the same as me this evening. Its like im playing tomorrow myself, i want the game to be right now, to kick every ball, sing the songs of our fathers and grandfathers before us against our rivals. I can,t get that feeling from any other scottish team we play against, yes it feels good to beat kilmarnock in a cup final, or win the league. A big european night is special and a european final like seville was a mind blowing adventure but apart from these rare events. nothing compares to playing rangers and beating them, putting them in their place, beating the establishment team, rubbing it in tomorrow, to leave u with a smile for a week and walk tall no matter where u live. I,ve said it now!!!!

I’m not saying I’m thick but there are some incredibly intelligent guys who post on here. I’m not referring to those who are well read but don’t have an original thought in their head. I’m not talking about those who have original thoughts but these are as a result of prolonged periods in darkness alongside flowers and plants. I’m on about the guys who genuinely make you think when you read their posts and there are plenty.

Aye, the blog is an education at times.

There are some who post from the heart, there are some who are wordsmiths, there are some who say very little, but say so much.

CQN is an addiction for me, I have tried other blogs, but they don’t match up for me, whether I get replied to or not, I will read the blog on a daily basis, it’s an education.

I remember about a year ago, someone asked about a bar in Botswanna that might be showing a game, within half an hour yer man had info to beat the band, blew me away that did.

Too many to name, but auldheid in particular I think does an outstanding job on getting to the detail with what’s going on. Always think understated views from many posters are equally as valuable as the ‘thought’ pieces, which this blog excells in.

I find the whole 12 month transfer embargo/ McCoist rant fascinating…..

Red herring if ever there was one..who in their right mind wants to do business with the Huns now or in the next 3 years let alone 12 months?

As for the media- it’s becoming cringeworthy to watch the put the boot in to RFC in an attempt to distance themselves from accusations of succulent lamb journalism. shameful but funny. Alexthomo has them on the run…
