More injuries and set-piece woes for Spartak

1051

Just as Celtic’s injury problems appear to be lifting Spartak Moscow’s are getting more acute each passing game.  Their cult-hero goalkeeper, Andriy Dykan, was substituted after picking up an injury in yesterday’s win against 10-man Amkar Perm and is unlikely to face Celtic.  Already injured, Pareja, Welliton, Parshivlyuk, Jurado and Romulo, never made the squad.

The goal Spartak lost to ninth-place Amkar, is worthy of note.  It was the eighth goal they have lost to a set piece in the last 10 games.  Celtic have been particularly effective from set pieces in Europe already this season and will see an opportunity in corners and free kicks deep in opposition territory.

Tuesday is the day…..

VP – legs are very under rated in the modern game!

    ——————————————————————–

John Greig of the ex team rated them quite highly, that is why he tried to remove them

from the field of play, nae legs = nae goals……unless you heider or chest them in.

  2. Some belated thanks to the organisers of the quiz last night and those that led the proceedings. You do so much for the Celtic family and put many of us to shame. (Minx,HT, BJ mac, crc & Bundoran Bhoy -take a bow)

Our team were doing well in the early rounds but, as the rounds (both quiz and bar) increased we seemed to fall out of contention. Inexplicable, eh?

Good to finally meet our Celtic exports to West Lothian

Awe Naw- who was our resident expert contributor on Lepidoptery

Maggie McGill- who has an unrivalled expertise in American sports and culture

Hugh- The diplomatic wing of the Awe Naw family and the provider of the finest handwriting in our team

Sannabhoy- was there, along with Hugh to answer any questions that may have happened in the 90s or naughties

Dick Byrne- specialist areas- wallets and concept albums

& myself- getting all the Celtic questions wrong without the benefit of google.

Thanks to The Pheonix Bar for providing the location and remaining calm in the face of a Celtic crowd when the Guinness ran out. I had my first bottle of Newky Brown in years and, after 5 guinnesses, it seemed fine enough.

Final thanks to The Shabby Chapeau and TBB for sharing a taxi back to South Lanarkshire. Despite my best efforts and those of TSC, we only persuaded a taxi to stop when TBB rolled up his trouser leg to reveal a shapely ankle. At least, I think that was the significance of the trouser rolling???

Today’s Sunday Times (in England at least) has Phil’s book in their best sellers top 10.

  4. bada bing,

Glenveagh is certainly worth a visit, however, I’m not sure if it is opened to the public in December.

Weather permitting, a trip round the coast road, via creeslough, Gortahork, Bloody Foreland, Gweedore and the Rosses, on to Dungloe and back to LK via Fintown.

  5. evening bhoys and ghirls while we are on the subject of fund raising (come on wee Oscar its so close now) how do our illustrious Green Brigade fund their brilliant banners? Is it just from the merchandise they sell from old bhoys club on london road or is there a way of donating to them? I’d be willing to donate

  6. thomthethim-Cheers,looking forward to it,will find somewhere to watch the Killie game i’m sure.HH

  7. There was an East Fife player in the 50s, called Charlie “Legs” Fleming.

I suppose it was his legs that differentiated him from the other players.

  8. Good evening friends and I hope we are all well.

Another long night of TV golf ahead for Jobo

Haven’t given up hope that Europe can do this. Mind you I also think we’re in with a decent shout of doing the Quadruple this year.

As Poulter just chips in for a birdie at 1 after finishing with 5 birdies in a row last night….and Luke Donald goes 1 up at 2.

  9. Jobo-Tiger’s not played well but surprised he’s out last.A matchplay with the home crowd behind him, might have got a point on the board early.

  10. Bada

I have assumed Tiger is out last because the US will have expected it to be all over by then (as, indeed, I do) but if it is not, he does have the ability to win under extreme pressure.

  11. Good evening CHAMPIONS

Just seen on twitter from Matt McGlone, wee Oscars target of £250K has been SMASHED. Well done to all involved.

  12. Paul, loving your optimism , i would bite your hand off for a draw , we will have a long journey with an early kick off on a plastic pitch.

On the plus side we have a young team with plenty of legs so maybe we can do it.

£250k target smashed in 102 days thanks to the unbelievable efforts of 1000s of people who took Oscars story to their hearts & helped us out

  15. bhoywithseethrougheyes @15:51…

I watched the match again on BBC Alba and I agree with you.

8 minutes 40 seconds or so in Kris Commons has his leg whipped away as he attempts to connect with Gary Hooper’s cut back.

Clear penalty in my opinion, although perhaps not as obvious as the the Michael Duberry double handball in the penalty box incident at McDiarmid Park a few season ago which Mr Brines failed to see.

Probably his most damaging “honest mistake” was the denial of a last minute penalty in the 0-0 draw at Easter Road in 2009 (second last game of the season)when Nakamura was barged over in the box.

He did give us an early signal of his “style” when he booked Henrik for diving after Gordon Marshall brought him down in the penalty box at Celtic Park.

    Enough said!

  16. Joe Filippis Haircut on

The MSM print some rubbish Brendan Rogers is a long time fan of Gary hooper and could table a 6 to 7 million pound bid in January.I take it the offer will be 7million plus Andy Carroll we have a top notch striker and he wont be sold on the cheap.H.H.

I think we may get a draw on Tuesday which would not be to bad. We must set up first and foremost not to loose the game, and we might even get a chance to sneak a goal which would be great. I also fancy Benfica to draw at home with Barcelona which could keep the group tight.
