Having signed two wingers in season 2022-23 (Jota – on a permanent contract, Haksabanovic) and four in season 2023-24 (Palma, Kuhn, Yang, Tilio), Celtic cut back on their most persistent transfer fix and limited the arrival of wingers to Jota during the season just finished.
We are again reported to be in the market for a winger; there are reasons. Jota is out injured until the end of the year, Daizen Maeda has two years left on his contract, which he has so far declined to extend. While Nicolas Kuhn will attract more attention than anyone else in the squad, in particular from his native Germany.
With Kuhn and Maeda under contract, Celtic have a degree of control ahead of the Champions League qualifiers in August, but that is not complete control. Players who are attracting attention seldom perform at their best near deadline day. Even if we resolve to keep both players for the season ahead, at this stage of the summer, there is reasons to be concerned about how focussed parts of the squad will be in August.
More wingers is one way to mitigate the risk.

Afternoon all

our payout total from uefa.
25) Celtic – £38.88m (eliminated in the knockout phase play-offs v Bayern Munich)
Good afternoon all from Queens Park. Picked the wrong day for a walk around it.
we dont have “wingers”,
we have wide forwards, Brendans description.
That Kuhn and Daizen scored regulalry from these positions was used as a bench-mark to comment at seasons end that they somehow were playing poorly.
That forwad 5 inclduing kyogo, adam and jota , when on it, were mesmerising to watch.
The benefit of the close season for me is going back over last seasons games, and picking out the best bits.
Kind of churlish to say we were a bit off it as it came to seasons end, i feel it is tained by losses to them and not coming home with our cup.
Sure improvements can be made, but there is also the current squad can improve also.
i AM A HAPPY BHOY WILL THE GOOD SHIP CELTICA.
Hopefully proper wingers that fit the system we play. Can they go on the outside? Link up with the full-back and outside midfielder? Come in at the back post to finish off moves?

B2B – yeah, canal path/old railway line and only a small amount on road so very cycle friendly 🚲
Liverpool showing how to strengthen from a position of strength…..
Yip.
The bit about Kuhn being the subject of most attention and the name drop of a particular country was new news to me.
Have no reason to doubt that Paul’s nibble has some substance.
Tough choice for a German footballer.
Bundesliga or SPFL?
Hmm. Let me think …

Just read , that’s before gate receipts, from 5 full houses.

“Both” refers to Kuhn and Maeda.
Two simple questions need asked.
1. Daizen, Nicolas. Do you want to leave ?
2. Brendan, will you have a better chance in our two most important games of the season across 19 to 27 August with less focused incumbents or more focused newbies?
Depending on the answers?
That shortlist of five wingers the robust recruitment and data teams prepare for Brendan?
From which we planned to go for 1 player?
Go after three.
me think …

Say 57,000 at £230 across all five games?
£50m plus from CL less costs of participation.
But if we draw the team from Tel Aviv we should do the noble thing and just withdraw from the competition.
Back to Basics
What you say is correct re data analysis and recruitment.
Who is doing it though.
As Ally would say. …who are these people name the names.
Back to Basics
I would love it if Pep advocated that withdraw suggestion for Man City or indeed any other principled Prem manager.
Not sure anyone would bat an eyelid if we did it.
Sadly most recent folk would wholeheartedly back it.
Rather overcast in old Gorbals parish.

Very warm and sunny down the east coast, may break open a can soon 🍻
Celtic will not withdraw from the CL if we draw Maccabbi Tel Aviv nor should we.
We saw Florian Wirtz (developed at FC Koln) early doors playing for Bayer Leverkusen at Celtic Park back in September 2021 at only eighteen part of a youthful attack force, scoring a brilliant counter attacking goal in a 4-0 victory over Ange’s eleven. The scoreline doesn’t tell the whole story though, their goalie was the best player on the pitch. Wee Frimpers had a battle royale with Jota that same night, and now both players will line up for Liverpool next sehason, surely favourites for the EPL title again next season, but at a cost of around £150 million. That kind of quality does not come cheap. Interestingly enough Adam Montgomery also played that night, but hasn’t had quite the same career development, though injury has played a part in derailing his progress, main point being that getting game time is the key to player improvement.
“While Nicolas Kuhn will attract more attention than anyone else in the squad…”
According to Paul’s blog nemesis, it’s CCV who’s feeling covetous EPL eyes running over his chunky frame atm.
I tend to agree with thon circuitous blogger too; and the loss of CCV would destablise us more than signing ‘a million wingers’ (c) BR – , would do for us, esp going into the ECL qualifier.
PS: Surgeon reckons the radiographer’s hernia diagnosis may be BS; possibly a groin/adductor strain/microtear instead. You still got my agent’s number Doc Tisdale, right ??
CCV for me has become a weaker player, dont know if it is niggles or concentration or both but I am hoping a whole slose season off sees him return to form.
this BBC hEADLINE, I MEAN SERIOUSLY WTF.

Cameron’s not a robot and while he’s maybe occasionally ‘aff it’, he remains a baller.
A Rolls Royce to my eyes.
Trying to replace a guy of his overall strength and consistency will be a very tough job.
Wingers/Schmingers CSC
Have we signed Orjaeseta, Balikwisha or Nygren yet? Our recruitment team’s rubbish. Get Big Peter on the job.
More wingers or wide forwards, arriving early preferably.

…………………………..
Agree with you – to an extent. It troubles me the amount of Champions League games that he’s been unavailable for. I believe it’s somewhere in the region of 10 or 11 that he’s been out for which seems astronomical. These, more than any other, are the games that he’s needed for.

Yip abandoned a Trossachs long weekend as the weather report was pouring rain. Correct but at night, so no need for the abandonment 😡
Nice gesture for Colby Donovan to give KT his squad number back.
We’ve signed a Shved load of wingers ( Thumbsup )
I saw the whole of Khun’s moon 🎶
Aff oot 👍

Agree with you re CCV missing the big games. Weird co-incidence ?
Reckon we should prioritise getting Brendan signed up if anything to give the players the confidence to know their futures. Then get a Broony

We withdraw from the CL.Maybe get no support.UEFA ban us for 3 years, hand the spot to runners up,Huns.CL carries on without us.
Not really given a lot of thought to this have you.
Kelvinbhoy @ 12:21 – cheers.
I cycle out there occasionally – fitness permitting – and always take the path.
Road isn’t great. Narrow, bit twisty with a few cheeky wee blinds, and the surface on the inside is pretty poor.
