More wingers mitigate Celtic risk

314

Having signed two wingers in season 2022-23 (Jota – on a permanent contract, Haksabanovic) and four in season 2023-24 (Palma, Kuhn, Yang, Tilio), Celtic cut back on their most persistent transfer fix and limited the arrival of wingers to Jota during the season just finished.

We are again reported to be in the market for a winger; there are reasons.  Jota is out injured until the end of the year, Daizen Maeda has two years left on his contract, which he has so far declined to extend.  While Nicolas Kuhn will attract more attention than anyone else in the squad, in particular from his native Germany.

With Kuhn and Maeda under contract, Celtic have a degree of control ahead of the Champions League qualifiers in August, but that is not complete control.  Players who are attracting attention seldom perform at their best near deadline day.  Even if we resolve to keep both players for the season ahead, at this stage of the summer, there is reasons to be concerned about how focussed parts of the squad will be in August.

More wingers is one way to mitigate the risk.

I was in that stand with my father on a different occasion, and we celebrated two goals for the Bhoys that day, but sadly lost 3-2.

  2. Meanwhile over the Atlantic the Donald is celebrating his birthday by having an Armed Parade, (an idea he got when present at Bastille Day a few years back) and ostensibly to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the US Army. This will involve, among other displays of force, tanks rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue.

Elsewhere across the USA ‘No Kings’ protests will take place in many towns and cities. Not to be outdone, our very own, the boy King, Prince Charlie, celebrating yet another of his royal birthdays, oversaw the trooping of the colour in London Town, a relic of our own Imperial Past.

    Celtic beating Third Lanark

It was the first time the Lisbons Lions played together.

Simpson, Craig, Gemmell, Murdoch, McNeill, Clark, Johnstone, Wallace,Chalmers, Lennox, Auld – It’s a list of names that’s seared into the minds of every Celtic fan and a team that will never be forgotten, but they had only played together a few months before that sweltering day in Lisbon. Manager Jock Stein had used them all in different combinations before, but it was on January 14, 1967 that the team who would go on to lift the ‘big cup’ would first play as a starting XI, in an away game to St Johnstone.

i cant say i am buying into the lennon miller had a great game get him signed mantra.

he was decent sure, did things positively but it wasnt germany he was playing.

same for the hat trick guy, big deal, that goalkeeper was worse than the scotland guy.

so i dont know that paying mullions for lennon is needed.

I’d guess odds of 3/1 on a world war before 2030 would be reasonable.

  11. I. honesttly haave. never seen Miller be outstanding.

All the pundits, say he has potential to be.Ii just don’t know.

SFA rat Maxwell on Shortbread, gives the rags a soundbite, saying Callum McGregor said to the Board, he was concerned re pyros at games, unsurprisingly the constant bottle throwing at Poundland, doesn’t get a mention, aided and assisted by McIntyre

  13. BB

at least Maxwell is willing to go on national media and talk about subjects.

How often does our Executive talk to us ?

What is happening with fan forums ? the fan survey ? customer engagement even.

  14. !!Bada Bing!! on

SS- Allegedly spoke to our Board, platforms like Shortbread for Maxwell is food and drink for Maxwell, pre arranged questions no doubt, and assisted by McIntyre, the Mothership don’t get mentioned

i am struggling a bit here, what did you want to know from maxwell, he imho didnt say anything controversial about Celtic.

  16. remember the old celtic view and celtic annual wee green book where you got an endo f season review from the manager, and the chairman ?

is that now just replaced by the annual financial report ?

is that as much as the executive can be bothered speaking to the fans.
