Having signed two wingers in season 2022-23 (Jota – on a permanent contract, Haksabanovic) and four in season 2023-24 (Palma, Kuhn, Yang, Tilio), Celtic cut back on their most persistent transfer fix and limited the arrival of wingers to Jota during the season just finished.
We are again reported to be in the market for a winger; there are reasons. Jota is out injured until the end of the year, Daizen Maeda has two years left on his contract, which he has so far declined to extend. While Nicolas Kuhn will attract more attention than anyone else in the squad, in particular from his native Germany.
With Kuhn and Maeda under contract, Celtic have a degree of control ahead of the Champions League qualifiers in August, but that is not complete control. Players who are attracting attention seldom perform at their best near deadline day. Even if we resolve to keep both players for the season ahead, at this stage of the summer, there is reasons to be concerned about how focussed parts of the squad will be in August.
More wingers is one way to mitigate the risk.

The priest tonight was doing his “trinity” sermon and how difficult it is to understand the concept of the “three persons but one God” concept.
I couldn’t help thinking he obviously doesn’t lurk on here.
If he could follow the many persons of KevJ, a mere trinity should be a dawdle tundersstand.

Wallace’s form attracted attention from larger clubs, Heart of Midlothian eventually spending £15,000 to take him to Edinburgh in April 1961. The increased pressure for success at Tynecastle initially curtailed his scoring exploits, for he was expected to replace no less a figure than Alex Young, the “Golden Vision”, whom Hearts had sold to Everton a couple of months earlier. By season 1962–63, however, Wallace was fully settled into the tactics of manager Tommy Walker, and he would become Hearts’ top scorer for the next four seasons through to 1965–66. In doing so, he helped Hearts win the Scottish League Cup in 1962 and come within a goal of winning the 1964–65 Scottish Football League title, while gaining full international recognition for Scotland.
In 1966, however, his form plummeted and his goalscoring ceased and, amid rumours that he had been “tapped” up by another club, his departure from Tynecastle was widely anticipated. The surprise was that his destination wasn’t boyhood favourites Rangers but their nemesis Celtic, for whom Jock Stein paid £30,000 to secure his services. He played a total of 248 matches for Hearts in all competitions, scoring 131 goals.[3]

If we played “Super-Joe-Miller” through the middle, his real position, in all of his games, SJM becomes Celtic’s Paulo Rossi.
What an opportunity for SJM to enjoy his dream move to the full, sadly it was badly managed away.
Wingers are a curse if you don’t play on the break utilising an out ball for the winger to run onto, not for the winger to get the ball with his back to goals, inviting Hospital tackles etc, and by the time the winger gets turned to face the goals, all of the options are blocked off, so the winger has to turn back and this totally defeats the option of using a winger.
The 9 in a row Huns used to play rope-a-dope with us, and everybody else, let us get to the Hun 18 yard line, then the sucker out ball to Laudrup, or whoever, and we were all over the shop trying to get back.
Jinky always had the ball facing the opposition you very rarely seen Jinky having to turn back the way.
Teams started wising up and having players like, Andreas Pirlo, of Juventus to play brilliant forward passes, or long balls, to get the team up the pitch, as wingers were too easily crowded out, Jinky being the great exception.
In 1989 when Super Joe Miller scored that goal in your picture, the fear was written all over Hun fans faces, as we had just signed, Super Mo Johnston as well, well he was Super at that time, before the board fkd it up and Mo had to go back to France, Celtic board thinking that would be the end of the matter.
But Mo aid to himself – “MY DREAM MOVE BACK TO THE CELLIC, RUINED BY THESE CLOWNS? NO CHANCE! I’M GONNA JOIN THE HUNS AND BRING YOU DOWN YOU BOARDROOM OF FILTH!”
Mo Johnston joining the Huns put sleekit Cellic on their asses for the next NINE YEARS – Souness was correct.
Souness said in the Documentary – ( CLASH OF THE TITANS )
“WE ARE A BUSINESS AS WELL AS A FOOTBALL CLUB, AND WE SAW A WEAKNESS IN OUR RIVALS, WHICH KNOCKED THE STUFFING OUT OF CELTIC SUPPORTERS, BY FAILING TO GET THE MO JOHNSTON DEAL OVER THE LINE. SO WE SAW THE OPPORTUNITY AND WENT FOR IT, AND IT WORKED. CELTIC WERE ON THE FLOOR, SO WE BROUGHT MO HERE TO RANGERS, AND THAT HURT CELTIC REALLY BADLY, THEY WERE ON THE FLOOR FOR 9 YEARS AFTER THIS.”
The beautiful game eh.
yo mamma…..

Good to see all these early Celtic ‘signings’ , seems like Brendan’s desire for ‘freshening up’ is being heeded.
Plenty more to come, outwith sales which will hopefully be limited, expect we’ll sign a top striker we won’t go into a Brendan season left ‘light’n, the number one wasn’t replaced in January. Impossible now, to square Celtic stashing £100M of supporters money and leaving us without a new talisman?
Midfield big second seasons ahead for Engels, Bernardo and McCowan. Central defence leaves some head scratching for BR, after last season where again CCV was head and shoulders, above any of his partners.
Exits or not, will determine what happens at the business end of the window and whether direct replacements will be required, as the new grass grows.
Is it ok to finish off the Fig Rolls on your own?
B78 – FR was different class today. Unfortunately the English seem not to like him for some reason and will be gutted when he starts all 3 tests.
Don’t know about you, but for different reasons I was disappointed in both games. The handling errors in the first were terrible and as for the Bulls😮 How bad was Le Roux😮

Kenny Dalglish is arguably the most talented footballer that Britain has ever produced and the most technically gifted player to have played for Celtic, and indeed Liverpool. Kenny scored 167 goals for Celtic in 322 games winning four league titles, four Scottish Cups and one League Cup.
Kenny was included in the Greatest Ever Celtic Team but lost out on the Greatest Ever Celtic Player to Jimmy Johnstone. He did win the Greatest Ever Liverpool player award, all these voted by supporters at each club.
“It’s alright saying we’ve got £400,000 but where do we find any player like him?” Jock Stein on Dalglish after his transfer to Liverpool in August 1977.
“Celtic was a marvellous place to be. Everyone was so committed to the success of the club.” Kenny Dalglish.
“My league debut for Celtic was in October 1969 when we played Raith Rovers. Bobby Murdoch was sitting beside me and asked if I was nervous. “ No” I replied. “Well” he said, “ you are putting your boots on the wrong feet”. I looked down and he was right.” Kenny Dalglish. (Celtic won 7-1).
“Jock Stein’s right-hand man, Sean Fallon, was on his way to the coast to take his wife for his wedding anniversary. But he made a detour to our house and left his wife in the car while he came in for a chat. You always dream of playing for the team you support but the most important thing for me was I just wanted to be a professional footballer. Fortunately I fulfilled my dream. When Rangers don’t take you, it’s not the end of the world. It just means that when you later play against them and score, it makes it a wee bit more special.”
Kenny Dalglish (on being rejected by his boyhood club, Rangers).
