More wingers mitigate Celtic risk

314

Having signed two wingers in season 2022-23 (Jota – on a permanent contract, Haksabanovic) and four in season 2023-24 (Palma, Kuhn, Yang, Tilio), Celtic cut back on their most persistent transfer fix and limited the arrival of wingers to Jota during the season just finished.

We are again reported to be in the market for a winger; there are reasons.  Jota is out injured until the end of the year, Daizen Maeda has two years left on his contract, which he has so far declined to extend.  While Nicolas Kuhn will attract more attention than anyone else in the squad, in particular from his native Germany.

With Kuhn and Maeda under contract, Celtic have a degree of control ahead of the Champions League qualifiers in August, but that is not complete control.  Players who are attracting attention seldom perform at their best near deadline day.  Even if we resolve to keep both players for the season ahead, at this stage of the summer, there is reasons to be concerned about how focussed parts of the squad will be in August.

More wingers is one way to mitigate the risk.

    Great photos Scullybhoy.

Kenny always looked like he loved scoring goals.

  3. Celtic don’t speak to the media unless it’s necessary . We do remember that the scottish media are hostile to Celtic and in the main prefer Rangers. Any story we release is spun to criticise our club.

We have been let down too many times in the past. We originally tried to develop Celtic view to get our news out there. TV is the same. Sky, STV and BBC scotland are full of bluenoses.

I feel there is a lot of nonsense about Lennon Miller. Does anyone know if Brendan want Lennon Miller for his system? I mean I have watched him play against us and the recent Scotland games and I have not been impressed. What are his strengths ? I cant see them.

I also am a little suspicious of when media talk him up and inflate his price.

Brendan is in overall charge of our recruitment these days and has the budget approval. If he wants Miller then he can use his Budget. Nicolson cannot block it and Peter Lawwell as Chairman has no involvement. This is not the same as John McGinn. The only similarity is that Miller has the option like McGinn did and he chose Villa.

If Brendan wants him and the boy wants to come then it will happen. If not then it likely will because Miller preferred elsewhere.

Remember if we buy him or not the MSM will sin it against Celtic

  4. Kenny Dalglish attended most..if not all of the 97 funerals of the victims of Hillsborough…still connects with the bereaved families…

Lou Macari has been providing shelter for the homeless for years and works endlessly to make their lives a little better..

Meantime, David Beckham gets himself into as many newspapers and magazines as possible to keep himself relevant….earns millions every year promoting alcohol on tv adverts…

Now which one of those 3 have “earned” recognition by knighthood?…..

  5. Nope,,still can’t see the wonderkid in Lennon Miller. No t based on much, only that I have never seen him do anything wonderful. If we do sign him, hope he lives up to the hype.

  6. My bad….

Should have read and was knighted for

    Lou does

Beckham does which of the 2 should…

    You get my drift..

  7. …also read a while back of players who take active parts in soup kitchens and the like….

    But let’s knight Beckham…..

  8. Also read a while back that Sadio Mane looked for pay rises to build hospitals, schools and housing for his town/village…although not eligible for a knighthood it shows the contrast on priorities for rich players and richer ex players…

  9. Noticed the ridiculous Rangers News has a new way of reporting transfer fees. Now everything is” North off”.Eg,Rangers value Desssers at North off,£5 million.Every time.

On the subject of the bold Dessers,,between him and Cerny, thats around,60 goals leaving their team..Big ask to replace.

Racist scum forwarding unionist puppeteered rubbish nearly as much as quoting cheat Sourness who never did anything in football after it was found he had £60,000 ebt from the dead huns while at an english club.

Fleg waving pishtriots/paytriots make up barely 1% of voters thats what ireland thinks of the racists.

And remember the same racists attacked Celtic fans in Dublin the day we clinched our title

  12. I hope Calmac instructs his team mates to leave the field of play the next time we go there and something happens.

I said previously if the players walked off it would clearly be

more more noticeable and need to be discussed more as it watched by millions live on tv and have a wider impact.

Excellent post. Agree 100%. It should have been done on at least one of the numerous occasions that it has happened. I bet that if some idiot in our support gives Sevco the excuse, they will do it and the MSM will simply gloss over the life-threatening assaults Celts have endured and muddy the waters as they always do.

Our board does nothing our captain does and he’s the one true leader with power who could make the difference with a simple action I feel.

  16. Whilst our players leave the field of play I would encourage our support to sing you’ll never walk alone to show our support and solidarity.
