More worrying than the result

897

I know we had nothing up front, but Odsonne Edouard has looked more of a passenger in some games this season than Patryk Klimala and Moi Elyounoussi this afternoon.  The game was lost elsewhere.

Newco’s shape allowed them to dominate space whenever we had possession.  They were able to swiftly double up on Jeremie Frimpong and Diego Laxalt when the ball went wide, while they were compact enough in the middle of the field to keep Celtic from penetrating their final third.

Games are won and lost on mistakes and yet again we are talking about the defensive line at set pieces.  Connor Goldson’s ploy of standing offsite in the hope that a defender would break the line and play him on, was not subtle, but it was effective.  It was an excellent cross from the free kick (which wasn’t a free kick, but no excuses), Duffy was an enabler and Valarie Barkas could have done better.  Questions remain for both.

Culpability was less clear at the second goal, which was well worked.  With so many Celtic players in the box, you would expect one to get in the way of the drilled cross, but it fell to Goldson; teams who create chances get these breaks.  It was a deserved goal (again, no excuses, but the handball!).

The last time we dominated Newco was two years ago in a 1-0 win at Celtic Park when Olivier Ntcham controlled the game and scored the winner.  Stephen Gerrard learned from that day as Olivier has not had a sniff against them since.

Being ineffective up front and shaky at the back are worries enough, but the biggest concern is that we were unable to do anything to change the flow of the game.  An inability to control the any part of the game is more worrying than poor defending or not attacking.  It is more worrying than the result.

Failure to win the ten would be a monumental disaster for us as a club. Season ticket sales next year? 30k maybe at best. Huns would also be financially sound with the champions league cash at their disposal. Wonder what excuses our esteemed board would present to us?

And to answer the comments that sleekit huns on here are calling for him to go…quite the opposite, they want him to stay

Not what I was saying at all. Anyone who back the manager on here is fully entitled to do so. I certainly would not call them out as a hun or sleekit. We all want the best for Celtic.

I see the usual media suspects are doing their utmost to bolster the home team’s flagging spirits by finding anyone connected to A C milan to tell us how they’re going to wipe the floor with us .

Sadly , they may be right.

I sense that PL will stick with Neil. (I think we need a change) PL employed him and will not want to admit defeat PL has been brilliant for Celtic But he has made a few serious blunders Giving Neil the job in the showers (without looking seriously at who was out there) Not getting McGinn forcing Brendan out But none of the above will be as big as not Winning10.

    Big week for Peter.

Brilliant maybe too strong an adjective. I have often had a go. In particular the McGinn scenario was a F—k up

But he has made us financially solid in a poor league

    PL supported NL.

On his watch the Club’s biterest rivals went bust but we now find ourselves playing catch up to them in the league.

That doesn’t look like much of a legacy to me.

What goes around, comes around…it’s the cyclical nature of the game…

And the final hurdle is the most difficult to get over…

I only hope that whatever uncertainty there is at the club is resolved quickly and we go on to clear that most difficult of hurdles…the 10…after that I couldn’t give a monkey’s…

  11. Crap day @ the office on Saturday, with no positives to take out of that performance.

That display, must go down as our worst performance in years, with not one shot @

Sevco’s goal frame, shocking & also nightmare material.

Also, & what is seriously concerning for all of us, is that over the last three matches

we have played Sevco, the League Cup Final last December 2019 where we played

our get out of Jail Card via Fraser Foster, in that match. With the writing was on the

wall, in Capital Letters, stating wake & sober up, & smell the coffee beans, &

performance level check, & tactics level, & team selection as well.

One has to go back a few years, when the Tax Dodgers, last beet us @ CP back to

back, which does not make good statistics, now does it? No.

It seems that Steven-G & Gary-M, @ present, have twigged how NFL & JK lay

out there stall, & they also know how to nullify our play, where is the Prozac?

We need to drop the mindset, of picking only our favourites, & give other players

in our squad, a proper chance, not fleeting appearances. ACSOM John Paul Dykes

YouTube Channel, (A Celtic State of Mind) raised a good point, along with his

Guest’s, about Oliver Nicham performances, so far this Season. They where saying

that Nicham has scored one goal this Season, & made/laid on two assists. Which is

not going to set the heather on fire, with those types of displays. They (ACSOM)

reckon we should drop Nicham, & give David Turnbull, more of a chance in our

starting Eleven, I would agree with that suggestion. As for the past performances

of Elyounussi, nah rubbish, & non existent & effective over the last few matches,

a waste of a jersey. I’ve on here, moaned & groaned about Ryan Christie’s deliveries,

which lets be honest here, his Corners & Free Kicks @ most, tend to be poor, something

Ryan needs to work @, on the training ground. However we can’t really fault Ryan’s

Effort, which he gives 110% in each match, & we certainly do miss him, when he

is not playing in our Team, that is for sure. As mentioned IMO, we need to give more

opportunities, to the likes of Bayo/Connell/Henderson/Dembele, & so on, to see

what variety, they can bring to our style of play, & not just fleeting appearances,

which is useless, & not giving players a fair crack of the whip.

As for this Season, we certainly have a challenge on our hands, if we want to retain

the SPL Trophy, that is for sure. So we need to approach each individual match, like

it is a Cup Final, if we are to be successful come next May. (2021) Go On The Bhoys!

Hello again all you young rebels.

Still bewildered by that inept performance from our Bhoys.

There’s no denying that Neil has questions to answer regarding

team selection and tactics and why we haven’t learned after the

previous three games against Der hun.

Is he hogtied by contract issues i.e certain players must play when fit? have others spat the dummy out? and others just going through the motions?

Whatever it is it needs sorted now.

Despite the bad result I console myself with the fact they’ve won

feck all yet, and I’d bet if asked they would rather not have had the

last 10 years of misery we’ve inflicted on them instead of that one result.

Again more disappointing is the vitriol on here towards a man who

deserves a bit of respect, calling him a clown is shameful, and as for the

repetitive insult towards our assistant coach as just a cone layer?

    childish attention seeking imo.

Anyway, I’m a bit happier today, our state of roughly 6 million has only

recorded a couple of new infections, amazing result for Melburnians and

outlying regions, we are opening up now, but slowly.

PADDYMACOZ has already been on the phone trying to plan a gathering

of peninsula rebels asap, and I don’t think any of us will be dwelling to much

on that result when were belting out our tunes.

As someone once said ” thurs nae medals been haunded oot yet ” 8-))
