MORGAN SETS TARGET

LEWIS MORGAN has set himself a target – to join in the goal rampage that has seen Celtic claim TWENTY-FIVE strikes from seven games this season.

The Hoops crashed in five against Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday to add to the seven they crammed into the St Johnstone net on Flag Day at Parkhead the previous week.

Add to that the 13 that have been claimed in the Champions League qualifiers against FK Sarajevo, Nomme Kalju and Cluj and it’s no wonder Neil Lennon beams when he discusses the ruthlessness of his firing squad.

Kristoffer Ajer, Leigh Griffiths, James Forrest, Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie were the men on the mark against Stephen Robinson’s side after the wake-up call from Liam Donnelly’s 12th-minute opener.

Morgan, 22, though, has yet to add his name to the impressive scoresheet – and that is something the former St Mirren raider aims to rectify as soon as possible.

The Scotland international flanker, speaking to the Daily Record, said: “Obviously, we’re doing something right and the manager’s got us playing good attacking football.

“I want to really kick on and start adding goals, too.

“Listen, the first one usually is the hardest one. Obviously, I do base my game around that, but it’s just not falling for me at the minute.

“It’s something I’ve got to work on and, of course, you are going to be judged on your numbers as an attacking player.

“I’m not hiding away from that, but I’m not going to put pressure on myself.

“I want to get that first one and I’m sure when I do, I’ll be able to kick on. To be fair at the moment, everyone is helping out.

“We’ve got players all over the pitch who  can score. You see with Kris Ajer’s run from right-back at Motherwell and getting his goal.”

Morgan paid a tribute to boss Neil Lennon and added: “I’ve got to thank the gaffer for trusting me and I’m loving every minute of it.

“I’m not taking anything for granted as it’s an honour to pull on the shirt every single time I do it.

“We’ve got competition here and everyone is being kept on their toes by the players behind them.

“The manager was saying before the game that he was making four changes,

“But it was four class players coming in for four class players to give some boys a much-needed rest and you saw the boys who came in did really well.

“Of course, this is a big club, but we’ve got a great dressing room and you always feel a part of it, even the boys who aren’t playing as much.

“We’ve got a great team spirit that everyone feels involved in and it’s great to be getting the game-time at the minute.”
