Most scouted player in years, new keeper, Balzers wreaking havoc

755

A big Celtic welcome to our new goalkeeper, Logan Bailly, who joined from Belgian side Leuven yesterday, and to Nadir Ciftci, who was confirmed a Celtic player this morning, Ronny’s third and fourth signing of the summer.  And it’s only 9 July!

Craig Gordon will be difficult to shift as Celtic’s first choice keeper but Celtic rested him regularly last season, his first back in action after three years recuperating, so Logan will expect a chance to shine and stake his claim.

Nadir Ciftci should be expecting the most difficult preseason of his career.  The weeks ahead will be an intense step up from what he was used to at Dundee United, but if he responds he stands an excellent chance of leading the line on the third Champions League qualifying round, should Celtic overcome Icelanders Stjarnan.  Next week’s second round game might come too soon.

Ciftci’s every move, kick, pass and, erm…. disputed event, has been watched by Celtic for months.  They know as much about the player as it’s possible to know without actually employing him.  They will also have had the opportunity to take references from Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong.  In short, if we have another Pukki-Balde-Scepovic on our hands, we have more acute problems than simply another striker who didn’t work out.

For this reason, I’m sure Ciftci will deliver what’s expected of him.

Delighted to hear former Fifa executive committee member Chuck Blazer has been banned for life by the game’s governing body.  Blazer ‘came to a favourable arrangement’ (I think that’s the appropriate phrase on these occasions) with US prosecutors when convicted of tax evasion, money laundering and bribery.

Unfortunately, Fifa’s structure, which gives the Cayman Islands, the Cook Islands and Comoros more combined voting power than Germany and Spain, encourages corrupt patronage to thrive.  The money flushing through tiny countries in order to ‘develop the game’ ensures wealthy people are created, given powerful positions, from where they can be relied upon to vote the ‘right’ way.

Still, at least no one with Blazer’s rap sheet would be allowed to exploit the patronage to hand out blazers in order to wreak havoc on a vulnerable Scottish club (laughs away to himself for weeks).

Three still to go out, my guess- Scepovic, Commons & Stokes, and two/three to come in.

    OUT

    Scepovic – he’s a dud!

Commons – squeezed out. Off to Bolton, or, Leicester

Stokes – lost whatever he had, needs new challenge.

    Forrest and trees . . .

Fans, and I am guilty of this as much as anyone I know, often trip on fine details, paralysis by analysis. It may be the morning caffeine, but I feel positive.

RD enters his second year. A great asset for the team’s prospects, a full year together. He introduced much change (style of play, diet too?) that now have become familiar to the players. Cohesiveness and belief in a game like football count for so much.

CFC shopped not just this summer but in January for players that will fit with the team that RD has known for a full year.

And then there’s the matter of qualifiers at Celtic Park. No prospective opponent can have an advantage on this scale.

These feel like known quantities. Examining the factors that Celtic can control, it feels like they’ve done well. Caffeine aside, it seems Celtic have some important factors weighing in their favor.

    Vantage – re ‘biscuit-tin.

Look at the very detailed ‘Swiss’ account figures – tell me where a biscuit-tin would fit in, and what size it would have to be?

The club has ‘lost’ 15,000 from attendance over approximately ten years, perhaps if the ‘self-styled’ and ‘so-called’ “through and through’s, had ‘stayed the course’, we may well have had an ‘extra’ £50/£60 million income during that time.

It is the ‘stay aways’ that are keeping their money in biscuit-tin’s – who knows one of them may have the very one that Fergus DID throw away.’

When I first looked at the cifti biting incident I thought he was guilty. Not going to change my mind because he’s living my dream. Big believer if you do the crime you do the time. What ever his ban is just get on with it.

So from the picture of Ciftci can I assume his physicality came from his mothers side….:-)

  6. Just had a look at Ciftci training at Lennoxtown, last time I saw one of our players with thighs that size was one Bobo Balde, think he could be a handful. Welcome aboard Nadir. Paying wages between £30/£40 million is NOT NOT using a ‘biscuit-tin’

football and business clearly dont mix … or, at least, make sense by any standard of business as I understand it …

looking at Real’s signing of Danilo ….

in 2011, he signed for SEville for $18 million (Euro’s, but, once again, I can’t figure the keyboard thingy out!), with a $50 million release clause, with the contract ending after this season. So, 4 years … $50 million release clause …

think of it like depreciation … each year, the length of this contract, and hence his transfer value (at least, based on his contract) diminishes …. so, on that analysis, with one year left on his contract, his transfer value should be in the range of $12 million ….

but Real just paid over $30 million for a player with one year left on his contract ….

now, the argument could be made that he has improved dramatically, such that his transfer value if he were to sign now would be $100 million (instead of $50 million), but the fact is that his contractual price was set … and paying almost three times the proportional value for a player on the last year of his contract seems like madness to me…

how long is stupidity like this sustainable? no wonder teams that try to play by the rules are lagging behind.

I see you have taken to analysing people’s chosen monikers. Yours is your second this year I believe. Apologies if not.

However did you know that the Thompson Twins in Herge’s Adventures of Tintin were despite their remarkable resemblance to each other were not related? One being ‘Thomson’ and the other ‘Thompson’. To misquote Benny Hill imitating Michael Caine ‘Quite a lot of people know that.’

I’m sure the F**K THE POOR link I put up would have reached you more, but Paul67 removed it.

Yet so many other posts with swearie words stand and still do.

Yet one that is a cry to conscience is removed.

I wonder who was the absolute dick who complained.

Probably the same prick that walks by every homeless or hurting guy he’s ever met.

I was publicly man enough to make the link, so which prick is man enough to publicly express his offense?

And this is a place of compassion? Really? In truth? Without backslaps? Without look at me? I did that.

Humility is a by-virtue of compassion and sometimes it’s not all about ‘me me, look at me’ and sometimes it bruises.

    Censorship of compassion is what?

Why did you delete it Paul… you have my e-mail address but I won’t wait with baited breath for your explanation.

Can’t wait for the season to get going think we’re in for a good one again HH
