I was in Bergamo for the match and the only disappointment was being “asked” to leave a bar right beside the ground by what appeared to be Atalanta ‘ultras’.
I had previously been assured by an Italian guy that my wearing the colours in Atalanta territory would not be a problem.
I’m not in the age range of the the ultras or the GB etc and I suppose that my attitude might have been different when I was in my late teens but I have to say that over the past several years I have been increasingly uncomfortable with the concept of ‘ultras’ at Celtic Park
The “uniforms”, the marches, the self-entitlement of statements by those groups- all seem somewhat reflective of the behaviour of ‘firms’.
I may be wrong but I do have a view that the ultras at Celtic seem to put themselves above the rest of the fans.
The GB and the Bhoys do bring positive things to matches but they are no more supporters than the rest of us. They have no right to demand board meetings or to issue public statements on behalf of the whole support.
I don’t know why they all seem to wear the same clothing or march to the ground (or away grounds) together. Just seems overly “firm-y” to me.
