I was in Bergamo for the match and the only disappointment was being “asked” to leave a bar right beside the ground by what appeared to be Atalanta ‘ultras’.
===AT-Great that you went to see Celtic abroad,it is the highlight of many fans, most folk I know where received with hospitality and most repaid that kindness by spending loads and no causing bother, even as B78 says there was the potential for trouble at the end as fans were kept in,but that fizzled out as the crowd moved
Sorry to hear you were advised to move on by Atalanta Ultras, the culture of ultras is different in Italy so imo it sounds like wise advice(ps you wouldn’t go into the louden and not heed advice am sure)
I had previously been assured by an Italian guy that my wearing the colours in Atalanta territory would not be a problem.
===AT as a lot have found out sometimes advice is wrong, whether done intentionally by locals is for you to decide
I’m not in the age range of the the ultras or the GB etc and I suppose that my attitude might have been different when I was in my late teens but I have to say that over the past several years I have been increasingly uncomfortable with the concept of ‘ultras’ at Celtic Park
====AT I am not the age range either but to me they are always Celtic fans called the green brigade,I am sorry you feel uncomfortable DPB,please don’t let it build and ferment, they are Celtic fans first and foremost, and any misbehaviour can be dealt with accordingly,as a group on a stadium plan as has been shown in the past their little triangle can be expunged by the touch of a return key
The “uniforms”, the marches, the self-entitlement of statements by those groups- all seem somewhat reflective of the behaviour of ‘firms’.
====AT re the uniforms etc they like you can go to a match dressed how they wish, the self entitlement of statements from Celtic fan groupings is exactly that,it is no more,no less entitled than anything you or I may state in our Celtic experience,
I may be wrong but I do have a view that the ultras at Celtic seem to put themselves above the rest of the fans.
======AT I would say your wrong DPB,they have no more no less say in Celtics direction of travel than you or I,however when they are not there Celtic Park is quieter, calmer, less vibrant than normal ie when they are there. As a grouping in my experience they a closest to Brother Walfrids ethos and it’s not hard to grumble of that when you see our bank balance.
The GB and the Bhoys do bring positive things to matches but they are no more supporters than the rest of us. They have no right to demand board meetings or to issue public statements on behalf of the whole support.
====AT more positive than negative DPB is what they bring
They never claim to be any greater a supporter than anyone else, that is your perception,I have had chance to cross paths with them on Palestine and like the majority of Celtic fans,as a club formed out of genocide they listened about today’s ongoing genocide in Palestine.
They do not demand board meeting, they are part of a collective of groups(supporters associations etc) which our board communicate regularly and always have done.i repeat again they can demand or issue statements like hunclub but you ir I don’t need to give it gravitas
I don’t know why they all seem to wear the same clothing or march to the ground (or away grounds) together. Just seems overly “firm-y” to me.
====AT the dress thing does appear to irk you, that’s Celtic fans choice, they gave their own range as so to do the Kano foundation.
Maybe am relaxed with them, they are a grouping of fans who adhere to the roots of our club, our club.i am prob of same age age you( 60s) and recall showers of bottles been rained down in our own but we evolved out of that.lets see what happens,we are all Celtic fans
