Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on
Good morning CQN.
Another good result yesterday.
Racking them up like the Champions and league leaders we are.
I thought the performance was very decent.
I would have preferred we put them away ten minutes earlier of course .. but one laudable aspect of BR’s ball retention and switching approach ….
…. doesn’t half tire out teams.
Motherwell we’re almost at a standstill after 80 minutes. Legs gone.
For that reason, I don’t feel quite as twitchy going into the last few minutes with a single goal lead as perhaps I did in previous years.
Onto Wednesday – a win will see us extend our lead ahead of whats-there-name ….
… to within 87 points.

BTB,
The two goals were the kind of goal we were scoring for fun before, especially the second. Both brilliant. The 3rd was sheer theatre from Jota which capped of the day.Have to say though, for me,I thought our performance, very patchy.Maybe CL hangover.
As for McGEADYS and BOYDs comments on JOTA having a wee greet after scoring for The HOOPS… Its just typical Boyd, but did I detect a large slice of JEALOUSY there on the part of MCGEADY ?
Have McGeady and Boyd ever been ” critical” when any Player has shed a wee tear or two IF that player is having to go OFF INJURED ?
In recent months, I think Ive seen one or two Hun players having a wee greet because they have picked up another injury and have been subbed……Do Boyd and McGeady have ” opinions” on scenarios like that ?
McGEADY SHOULD be more ” RESPECTFUL” towards JOTA ……Who has been brilliant for Celtic whenever he has pulled on the Hoops.

As we head into the madness of the final day of the transfer window Brendan’s words yesterday:
“The club knows my feelings, they know why I came back. I’m here to enjoy my time at Celtic, not to fall out with myself and do all the things that sometimes I maybe didn’t do the first time.”
“But the demand is still there to improve the squad. We have to. We have to make sure that there’s constant improvement. That’s been clear.
“I don’t need to fall out with anyone over it. Everyone knows what it is we want to do at the club and that’s us all.”
We’ve spent record fees on two players, paid £8m for Jota, £6m for Trusty. KT joining on a big wage with a big signing on fee. Big increase in the wage bill.
The JOTA BHOY is back home where he belongs…..CHUMPS like McGEADY and BOYD should remember that Scottish Fitba is better when we have great Players plying their trade in Scotland…ESPECIALLY with Celtic !
Boyd has always been a HUN CHUMP……as for McGEADY….. someone ( Maybe Brendan Rodgers ? ), should have a stern word with him the next time their paths crossed ?
I would BET good money that McGeady would NOT DARE criticise Jota to his face or indeed to Brendan Rodgers face !
I’ll take patchy 1-3 victories away from home every time, por cierto

A recap on our Summer window and the value we have received from it
We spent £30m on Engels, Idah, Trusty, Bernardo and McCowan. They have started fewer the half the games they’ve been available for.
We spent £26m on Engels, Idah and Trusty. They have started 60% of all the games they’ve been available to play.
If we’re breaking our transfer fee records and spending that much money we need to get better value from our signings. We are also not far enough along with the development of our young players.

Brendan Rodgers is bang in front on transfers and hasn’t even made a dent on the net worth. Shuffling someone else’s signings out the door guns continually trained towards him have gone silent for a minute, with Adam Idah on three goals in two games. Arne Engels gradually justifying his fee, Luke McCowan proving a steal.
Not to mention having signed two £25M players back, in the same window, looks like Michael Nicholson and crew, have gotten their act in line with the Tier One manager.
With no direct ‘talismanic’ replacement Celtic supporters will be hitting F5 and Paul67’s “ our business is done “ is unlikely because Celtic are active till 11.00pm

In our top 4 years for recorded revenue, Brendan has been the manager for 3 of those years.
I suspect come September, Brendan will be the manager of 4 from 5 of our best seasons for revenue.

Not sure where you get these strange statics from, with even stranger conclusions…
We spent 31 mn in the summer on…
Engels – 11 mn
Idah – 8.5 mn
Trusty – 6 mn
Bernardo – 3.5 mn
Sinisalo – 1.0 mn
McCowan – 1.0 mn
Schmeichel – Free
Schmeichel has started more games than Idah, do you what that means as regards fees?
Nothing…

Cummings might be allowed to go if we get another centre forward in.
Jota not match fit yet so Daizen still needed on the wing.
If Cummings goes now, we are one injury away from Johnny Kenny being our only fit striker.

It is when we can sign Frimpong, Dembele, Valle from someone else’s academy. Something like 4% of academy players make the grade at their club, I think ours is higher but that includes players that move on.

If we’re breaking our transfer fee records and spending that much money we need to get better value from our signings.”
It’s a squad game – 60% is not bad for new signings.
Engels is a young guy in a new league and country – he started really well, had a wee dip (managed well) and I think is back on form and I think will be a top player for us. His deliveries are the best I’ve seen since Naka and Thommo and he is getting used to the SPFL – he bounced off and escaped Motherwell cloggers a few times yesterday as well as playing some sumptuous balls forward and he works hard defensively too.
Trusty ‘s situation is similar to above in terms of acclimatising but also has an element of squad management with Scales not having done a lot wrong so you can’t be seen to play players based on price tag surely?
Idah didn’t have the best pre-season and again, for me its squad management – it would appear we’ve known since summer Kyogo wanted off so dropping him would increase pressure on Idah and may have lowered the value we got for the eventual sale of Kyogo.
“We are also not far enough along with the development of our young players.”
Engels and Idah are relatively young players and I hope both will continue to develop.
Paulo for me can be inconsistent but is also developing well. McCowan for me has also shown he is great value as a squad player.
If you report back at the seasons end or better yet the end of next season and see how they fit in or have developed by then I think it will make much better reading. If these players help the club continue to rack up league title wins and get through CL qualifiers more consistently then they will prove good value. Too early to judge their value for me and it cannot be based on appearance stats imo.

I trust the Manager to determine when a player is ready for first team football, unless you’re a freak of nature, B team football isn’t any level to judge, Cummings wants to go sell him and get the best fee possible, he will be in League 1 in no time, 10k a week less income tax and NI, then buying/renting a house in London how much will he be left with out of that 10k? Enjoy the bright lights son but you aren’t ready. Your agent will be rubbing his hands.

Nice problem to have ? Who to leave out ? With a three man forward line of Kuhn, Idah, Maeda & Jota who sits on the bench when they’re all fit.
For backup, we have Forrest, Yang, Kenny & Dan Cummings giving 8 possibilities for the 3 positions. That seems to me to be a touch stronger than before !

Lennoxtown isnt working for Celtic, however I’m sure it is a UEFA stipulation to have one and have four Academy players in your squads for European competition.

Interesting to note different deadlines across Europe. Holland and Portugal are tomorrow. Turkey next week.
Just wondering if the alleged Lennon Miller money wouldn’t be equally well spent on Triantis from Hibs ?
Watched him play as a Centre Back from Central Coast before signing for Sunderland before Hibs loan.
A real utility man who could give us cover at CB but also play as the defensive mid we keep searching for.
He has played a lot of football minutes in Oz and Scotland; kinds in the Jackson Irvine mould in some ways.
Better value than Master Miller.
