LISBON LION Jim Craig is the very special guest on the new CQN Podcast – out now!

Jim releases his new book, Right Back to 67, The Lisbon Lion Diary next week and we are pretty confident that this will be regarded as one of the classic Celtic books of all time.

There has been so much written about 1967 in some very fine books to-date but nothing like this. Jim kept a diary of his time at Celtic and in Right Back to 67 he is able to provide the authentic, inside story. It really is too good to miss.

You can order the book now from CQNBookstore.com and you will receive a signed copy. You can also add a personal dedication which is ideal for a Christmas gift. Simply email david@cqnpublishing.co.uk with your dedication after you have ordered and Jim will sort this for you next week.

Jim Craig joined Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham to discuss the Lisbon Lions’ 50th anniversary celebrations in a year which also saw Celtic winning an invincible treble, a prestigious award from FIFA naming their fans as the best in the world, and even a BAFTA!

In this emotional interview, Jim reminisces about Jock Stein, Billy McNeill, Neilly Mochan, Bertie Auld, Tommy Gemmell, Joe McBride and George Connelly.

He also discusses his latest book, his magnificent Lisbon Lion Diary: Right Back to ’67. This memoir is a real fly-on-the-wall recollection of events from 50 years ago, brought to life by Jim Craig’s intelligent and humorous brand of storytelling. Order HERE.

  1. VFR800 is now a Monster 821 on

Had a read back; didn’t have time after the game.

The penalty – stonewall as is the red. At exactly 53:02 McHugh tugs Armstrong in the exact same way and is booked; incidentally, Armstrong doesn’t even go down. Not-One on the panel or commentary team made an issue of that. It’s a red for a professional foul and/or denying a goalscoring opportunity – he was by the defender and had the opportunity to shoot.

The fans and singing were fantastic again today. I was in the GB Mosh Pit – absolutely mental and non-stop.

Forrest – justifiable MOM; Brown imperious in midfield. PR a joy to watch. Moussa is fantastic!

A wee point regarding Wednesday; the second half performance had Motherwell running and chasing shadows so they will be very tired after that and it will show in the second half at Fir Park.

Someone mentioned Scott Sinclair’s interview; IMHO, he was spot on. He felt contact and went down; the level of contact its irrelevant. Contact is contact and a foul is a foul. You can’t be just a wee bit pregnant! Was there ANY contact? Absolutely so it was a a foul in the box. Foul = Penalty.

65 and counting; 103 and counting.

I know a lot of people donā€™t like Hampden but our Brendan seems to love it, just about to watch the game with a clear head

Fairhill Bhoy score was 0-2 :-)

    Thunder Road 10.12pm

    Spot on, total lightweight :-)

  3. Brilliant Celtic, what a time to be a Celtic fan. These are the good times.

Once again J.F. rises to the occasion in a final.

As for the pen, the ref called it correct for me.

We can’t have this ridiculous situation where S.S. was denied a penalty against Hibs because, according to Golam I would have given a pen if he went down, but he didn’t, then say he went down too easily against Well.

Was shirt tugged Yes, is that a foul yes, so in my mind it’s a pen.

Once again the media are making the victim the perpetrator.

The only person to blame is the player who committed the sneaky foul but got caught.

    Hail Hail

    Of course ! I hadn`t thought of that !!

Re the main topic of the day,I have sent this e-mail to Motherwell FC:

    ” Dear Stephen,

Not SEEING any contact in the penalty incident on Sunday is very different from there being no contact.

Scott Sinclair has shown himself to be an honest player. I feel your implication was unfair.

You are doing a good job at Motherwell and deserve credit for that . For the sake of fairness, though, if you feel it is OK to comment on something because you did not see it, maybe reference to the very poor ( and dangerous ) tackle on Moussa Dembele is also in order.

Let`s hope the next two games between the two sides are played in a sporting manner,”

    Yours etc

  5. AC Milan has sacked Vincenzo Montella and appointed Gennaro Gattuso as the new manager.

The Govan wishlist is further diminished.

  6. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

Must be colder in Swindon than I thought. My hun mate just walked in wearing a Rangers scarf.

Oh how the witty repartee is flowing(!)

The Laptop Loyal really take the biscuit,eh? Quite happily putting their future in the dustbin by picking the wrong horse and sticking to it.

    Even the hordes despise them.

    Halfwits the lot of them.

  8. Missed most of the first half yesterday and just seen what Kipre should definitely have got a red card for – this should be reviewed and give him another one – shocking tackle. All the media attention is on the our 2nd goal… typical sour grapes and trying to set an agenda for the next 2 games – I trust we will stay strong in the face of this and come through it all ok for the game next week; unfortunately playing the same team 3 times in 7 days is conducive to resentments overspilling so we just need to remain calm and our football will win out

  9. The penalty debate reminded me of a time when young Danny McGrain disputed a penalty with Tiny wharton. Wharton said to him, if you don’t believe me check the Sunday post tomorrow.

  10. CT telling wee porkies, they forgot to put in the “WE allowed this” could be a mistake, but it was said twice, so I doubt it, that was what got the hall you could say uncomfortable, and the ladies attitude stunk, very uppity I thought and I wasent alone on that assumption.

However, we were aware of, and wanted to take advantage of, the wealth of knowledge, expertise and experience which exists amongst the Celtic support and therefore we wanted provision for individuals and organisations to be invited to the meeting ‘from time to time’ depending on the agenda. Note that phrase, for it is very important and we had to fight hard to have it included. That much smaller number of people would allow issues to be explored in the necessary depth.

  11. I’m rather unwell again due to chest infection and my computer is playing up again so I using my phone to post this, which I hate trying to do.

I won’t be on much til computer is fixed, but that Mudderwell mob and their wives bitching really takes it….. .NOTHING said by Lasleys wife when KT was nearly halved in two last season, likewise with the assault on Moussa yesterday…..

These Mudderwell Chumps should be REAL MEN… and make sure their wives keep their traps shut and take their phones aff them.

Hammer this mob again TWICE this week Celtic and put them in their place !

  12. Re the penalty incident …

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5krVW7QyFJs

Have a look at the similarities when we lost to Ross County …. strange how the media and pundits described how the ref got it right / had no option etc etc …..and how now the same Ref got it so badly wrong yesterday… COYBIG and well done to James Forrest for a smashing game .Keep it up!

  13. 50 shades of green on

Lots of plaudits for Jamsie bhoy and rightly so, took the game yesterday to the hammer throwers.

However I thought that in the second half Cal Mac had one of his best displays in the hoops, never hid and tried to keep the pace up with quick passing and closing down the Mwell mids.

  14. glendalystonsils on

Did anything else happen in the match yesterday apart from the penalty ?

Did James Forrest not score a wonderful goal?

Did Kipre not escape a straight red for a shocking tackle on Moussa?

Did Celtic not totally dominate a game they never looked like losing regardless of the “penalty”?

Did Celtic not continue to make history?

    Just wondered.

  15. The penalty incident, for me, karma for a vicious tackle that went unpunished earlier, but I have to ask myself, I we had that decision against us and went down to 10 men, what would the posts be like on here today?

  16. By the way, I dont think the Pen ‘changed the game’, we were well on top and would have won anyway. IMHO.

  17. Barney 64 @ 11.17

I do not think a penalty should have been awarded but you are dead right. We were winning and on top. Any anxiety I had about the outcome evaporated as wee Jamesie’s shot hit the net.

  18. Watched the game and was dismayed at both Sutton and Lennon. I try to be forgiving of the pundits but there is no excuse for Lennon. He is a manager who sees the treatment that Murderwell and their ilk dish out on a weekly basis. Very disappointed in his comments about Scott and feel he owes him an apology.

  19. okay bhoys lets move on it was a penalty albeit a soft one. had it been the other way round we would be screaming feckin cheats these things even themselves out. lets beat them again on wednesday.hh.

  20. I find it really incredible that Jamesie has been able to get through all the trials and travails of youth and senior football to not only become a professional but star in 3 cup finals , blag his way into the national team etc.

    Amazing for a “sparrowheart” fearty.

How does he manage to fool Brendan ? NFL ? And all others beforehand ?

That Boyata is the same. We really need a no nonsense, solid centre back to take on Cavani etc.

I’d dispense with that Belgian international centre back and get some quality from the lower leagues.

And please don’t start me on Craig Gordon….

  21. Anyone feeling ‘uncomfortable’ with out Pen award should watch BHOYFROMSKY’s clip of our Semi against RC in 2016. Ambrose got sent off for less.

  22. Gerry n Jeremy are gonnae boot brexits baws right intae the north sea lol

    Then set Ireland free!

    ho ho ho

    …..oot.

  23. Anyone in Section F yesterday knows the penalty decision was 100% correct. A clearer view than any tv camera, side on in line with the contact, Sinclair makes the blind side run behind Kipre and his upper arm is pulled.

Remember what Collum said to Jonny Hayes after Sinclair was denied a last minute penalty against Hibs at CP because he tried to stay on his feet and shoot. If Sinclair had gone down he would have given the penalty.

  24. Whats Betdaq giving for Celtic to go 67 unbeaten with a 1-0 win against Murderwill on a converted Sinclair penalty? Whatever it is I’ll take it.
