theglasgowcelticway on 17th October 2015 4:58 pm I think the fact we won is hugely relevant and makes this the better time to go on the attack.I remember MON after we defeated Dunfermline on their artificial pitch making the point that our victory allowed him his honest opinion.
*after we won the toss of the coin at the Estádio da Luz, Bob Kelly complained that this was not the way to determine any game never mind a European tie even though his side benefitted from it.
Penalty kicks were then brought in. Unfortunately the 1st game to decide this new format was our semi against Inter.

It was during a game with Aberdeen at Celtic Park.
Our management team wore buttoned training tops at the time much to the disgust of the vomit of football, McNee. He stated on scotsport once, Celtic managers ahould wear a suit not ridiculous training tops. I think it was more to do with having a go at Billy after Cesar had smacked McNee on the coupon.

I was at that game, they nearly scored, think big Bonnar was in goal, there would have been a riot that day, total joke of a ref whoever he was, as for Brian McGinaly we used to play in the Walter Elliot cup (civil service tournament) Mr McGinley never hid his allegiances for a team that is no longer with us, by the way as an amateur fitballer he was a right good ref, maybe because he just reffed the game without caring who won (at that level)

Evening Folks,
I see a lot of comments on Brain McGinlay (note the spelling).
Mr McGinley obviously came to my attention as a referee as his surname is phonetically indentical to mine.
I have to say that the first folk I ever spoke to about him was a well know Irish family from the Shawlands area who knew him and played football with him and who had games refereed by him.
They were pretty fullsome in their praise of him as a fair guy to be honest.
At games, I always thought of him as ok – not in the same bigoted class as the likes of Syme or Davidson.
However, I was always conscious of someone in the crowd shouting ” Hey, McGinlay – You’re a Ba….rd!”
Naturally, at such a shout i would look round somewhat concerned in case it was directed at me!
Then, in 1990 I took the decision to move house to …….. Balfron!
In the intervening years I have gotten to know Brian petty well and have been at various local dinners where he has been a speaker or MC when various ex Celtic, Rangers, Motherwell, Morton, Hearts etc players have all been present.
I have always found him pretty fair to be honest — though his jokes are crap and I tell him that to his face.
He is not slow to buy a round and even faster at accepting a drink when in the mood.
I have also heard Bob Valentine, Kenny Clark, Willie Young and various others speak — of those I was most impressed by Valentine though I know Clark better.
No doubt people have different impressions of different people.
There’s a slim chance I’ll b there….hopefully….was great to meet u & others….looking forward to doin it again….’cept wae more time and booze ;-))

I don’t think McGinley was the worst. Not by a long shot.
Willie Young was an out and out hun. So too was Mike McCurry.
But the master was Dallas. Some of his displays had to be seen to be believed.
Of the current crop, McLean is probably the worst. Collum is just an idiot. Thomson is best at, ahem, “game management”. Guaranteed our next game against them will see him in charge.
Hadn’t noticed Muir until today. One to watch, perhaps…
Only kidding but that is some amounts of referees you are friendly with, probably great guys off the park but on the park their instinct prevails, if I was a ref I would give Celtic everything, thankfully I was more interested in playing that officiating, maybe that’s why there are no decent Celtic fans redding, we were all too busy playing, young Andrew Dallas must have always been last picked to end up preferring to ref rather than play…..
Enjoyed the chat fellow Celtic fans
Take care and good night/evening

We played some good football in the first half especially down the left hand side with Izzy and Armstrong. Good to see Ciftci getting a goal. The second half was marred by two awful non refereeing decisions. The non decision at the deliberate handball to prevent a goal was nothing other than unadulterated cheating.
