  1. Saint Stivs on 17th October 2015 8:46 pm what is the origin of the name TONTINE

*Tontine is an area in the holy village of the Renton on the way out toward Dumbarton.

It was there that the world champion (1888) Renton complete with our first captain James Kelly and first goal scorer Neilly McCallum played. Johnny Madden would also play there while with Dumbarton.

After the club’s demise, the ground was built over for housing, with the former location of the centre circle being commemorated in one of the gardens.

A new Tontine Park with a couple of pitches is across the road from the former.

Brother Walfrid told John Glass “nae Kelly nae Keltic”, hence the connection tae the Bhoys.

At least let Roy post his opinion, it’s not very often he gets the chance, too busy doing blinking requests (mostly face me)

Jmccormick – glad you got a ticket today, thought you might have made an appearance last Saturday, I am already looking forward to what you are having for Sunday dinner DONT tell me just now I will find out the morra morning

New Zealand v France…. I am like Manuel face Fawlty Towers I know heehaw about rugby, but just heard the ref explaining his actions……don’t think that will ever catch on up here in North Britain

  3. Ghuys I would encourage you to watch the Rugby this is how sport should be played and how it should be refereed H H Hebcelt

Nigel Owens the rugby ref is giving a master class in the use of video aided officiating. In some games it has been over used, but tonight he has been excellent.

  6. Until referees are more accountable nothing will change. Today Muir made two massive blunders. But nothing will happen, he will soldier on next week and a few weeks down the line he’ll referee another Celtic game. Whether it’s him or someone else they will cost us big time, when it really matters ala last season. The Dougie McDonald/Hugh Dallas saga hasn’t been forgotten down ole Hampden way, not by a long way.

On train home last weekend I remembered a guy face up your way who I played u-21s with, won’t mention his name but he was like a Holehills version of Mark McGhee his initials were M.K. he went with one of the daughters of the guy that owned the Wayside for years, think you will know him, think he was with Celtic as a youngster, not even a drinker just wummin & grub, as I said the other night I am sure we will share a shandy or two in the future

Now the all blacks bring on heavy weight boxing champion Sonny Bill Williams – nae luck France!

I confess to have cultivated a wee belly in the last year.

The foot is much better, and running has recommended.

My aim is to run the Glasgow HM next year.

    Fancy joining me?

  10. Craigellachie10 on

The Fields ringing around the stadium now! Neither Ireland nor the Hoops playing and no snide comments from the commentary team either.

  11. Gerryfaethebrig on

ThELudkingTim – apologies, Roy C was posting, we (I) usually just ask him for requests, hence my post saying let him post, no offence or sly dig, it was more the fact some of us (me) just look for Roy’s photos or songs instead of him having a blinking opinion…..

    Apologies for the mixup

  12. Gerryfaethebrig

I do know him mhate, I knew his older brother better BK who travelled on the Wayside bus. I was on the Gorman’s bus but shared a few beers with BK around Scotland watching the Celts.

    You’re a gent.

  13. CRAIGELLACHIE10 this enough to make you want to give up watching/attending football- perhaps!!! H H Hebcelt

  14. yon all blacks are no a bad team :)))))))))

how can a human so big and broad move so fast

  15. Watching Barca v Rayo Vallecano I’m thinking if Celtic were as casual in defense as Barca we would be having kittens.

I suppose that comes from knowing that the boys up front will dig you out of a hole (as Neymar did with 2 rapid to go 4 1 in front.)

It’s football Jim but not as we know it.

  16. I saw the All Blacks at Murrayfield playing Scotland in a World Cup QF.

    They were immense.

Jonah Lomu ran over Scott Hastings, then did the same to Gavin Hastings.

I don’t mean he knocked them out of the way, he ran over them.

He was amazing as an athlete, a huge man, but with grace and speed.

I above anyone love Roy Croppie ( steady…ed ) you should do what I do, post yer own musical pref wen u want….listen to others ;-))

  19. Who else thought that when Effe swung his boot at a cross ball that it could end up in the corner of the net ? The big mhan played well today.

  20. Gerryfaethebrig on

Also met BK plenty of times, got on great with MK, he was my chauffeur when I had drank too many shanties in the wayside, for some reason MK thought I was ok in his words “for a cheeky wee bam” lot of time for MK, by the way over ten yards that bhoy could move, on a fitba park his skill and my cheek worked pretty good…. BK wouldn’t remember me but if you meet MK he will definitely know me….. Small world !

Thanks for the offer, but I will stick to 5s., as my recovery time for this is extremely poor and lots of pain. Think adding running to the current schedule would kill me

Good to see you on the road to recovery and thinking about getting back into the running though.

  22. Got to demur from the love-in with the posh boys sport of Rugby Union.

Don’t think this class-ridden, apartheid supporting, testicle squeezing, old school tie support network, of a sport can claim the moral high ground any more than its close cousin, Golf, can.

No matter how polite they are to the ref, when they lose a game they expect to win, they’ll find some working class Rugby League oik to blame it all on.
