Mourinho and pleasures delayed

442

For those who like their pleasure delayed, there is something wholesome in the wider awakening to the traits and abilities of Jose Mourinho.  The Portuguese inherited a squad at Porto in 2002 that would achieve great things there and elsewhere, notably against Celtic in Seville a year later, then against Monaco in 2004, but Mourinho’s principle contribution to results was his indulgence in the game’s dark arts.

Later in his career he would achieve while out-spending competitors, or by ‘parking the bus’ while still outspending most.  His temperament has always had a question mark over it.  Never has he won a league after his second at a club, by then, the impression of brilliance has always unravelled.

He made a barbed comment aimed broadly in the direction of Brendan Rodgers last week, although the Celtic manager was not mentioned, before picking on his own squad this week.  All will serve to divert attention from the fact that his spending is eye-watering and comparable to anywhere, but he will never get close to Manchester City.

That criteria for tickets is a nonsense. On HTS and bought the three previous round tickets, you don’t have a choice to pay, it’s oot your account weeks before the game. The drawback of being on this scheme is often you are paying for games you couldn’t attend. The week of the zenit game I was away and gave up my tickets to however could go, a hertz fan for the zenit game! Anyway out of pocket for nearly £50 without seeing a game.

I was luckily online by chance because no email alert was sent to me, something wrong with the whole thing.

  3. I received an email yesterday morning at 10.42 telling me that tickets were on sail.

I was at work and never knew of it till I returned home at nearly 6 o’clock by which time the tickets were sold out.

    Shambles.

Sat through the previous three rounds in a freezing, empty stadium and my reward…SFA! If we win I won’t get a ticket for the final.

Hopeless by Celtic. Never got a sniff at tickets. No warning about when tickets would be going on sale.

Shocking treatment of paying fans by Celtic.

  5. Really shocked at how Celtic have handled the semi final tickets. I thought the idea was if you paid to attend earlier rounds you’d at least get a shot of the games at Hampden?

Total contempt for loyal fans IMHO.

Italiabhoy that’s exactly what happened. Everyone who paid for tickets for the earlier home rounds were eligible on a first come first served basis. Demand outstripped supply as simple as that. Everyone who purchased a semi final ticket is a loyal fan too.

  10. Good morning CQN from an overcast Dumbreck. Mordor casts a shadow over this part of Glasgow. Regarding the cup ticket allocation being 22,000 and only 20,000 released. Supporters who are members of the executive club and box holders are guaranteed a ticket, and quite rightly so, but whether there are 2000 of these I would not know.

The Hibs LCSF is not a good gauge as the Hibs fans did not purchase their allocation and returned tickets.

As regards the very emotive subject of historical child abuse at Celtic Boys Club I don’t believe the Club will come out with any direct statement but could possibly make an addition to their Mission Statement ensuring a safe working environment for young people employed at the Club. Most clubs would probably state that there is now a legal requirement under the Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults legislation to provide this protection. The trouble is, if someone is determined and duplicitous enough they might slip through the net.

I prefer getting my weather forecast fae wee Gillian Smart than big Judith Ralston of a morning. ;)

  12. Looks like Brendan has pretty much said Edouard will be here next season if he wants to cut a deal. Celtic have agreed the deal with PSG so it’s only the terms with the player that needs to be agreed.

Great news if it comes to fruition.

  13. I think there is a consensus that the semi final tickets sale is not fit for purpose.

I got my 2 because I was lucky enough to be at home, received the email and went online immediately. Of course, I could also have called or visited the ticket office. I also received a text message so even if I didn’t have access to email I would have learned about the sale in good time.

I think the qualifying criteria was sensible. However, the timing of the announcement was plainly wrong.

The notification should have been issued the day before the tickets became available. That would have made it possible for everyone who qualified to arrange for themselves or someone acting on their behalf to go online, call or visit in person.

One thing that does puzzle me is that the attendance at the Morton game was lower than the available tickets, so why would they be all sold out?

  14. 22,000 Hampden tix, club says not enough supply to meet demand, so we have to assune we have over 22,000 on HCTS.

18,000 at Morton game, so did the remainder purchase a ticket and not go? If so, then they are entitled to get a semi tix. However, club should now ensure the remainder of those on the HCTS that didn’t get a tix get priority for the Final. It’s not rocket science.

  16. Just because there were only 18,000 at the Morton game does not mean only 18,000 purchased tickets. If you remember that weekend many parts of Scotland were snow bound and not everybody was able to make the journey to CP.

    Qualifying Ticketing Criteria

Tickets are available to buy now, on a first-come, first-served basis, to those Season Ticket holders who, via the Home Cup Ticket Scheme, purchased tickets for all three matches against Brechin City (Jan 20), Partick Thistle (Feb 10) and Morton (Mar 3).

Tickets are subject to availability as we do not have sufficient allocation of tickets for this match to accommodate all Season Ticket holders who meet this criteria.

  17. ITALIABHOY on 22ND MARCH 2018 7:35 AM

Semi final tickets handled in the same way as Hibs LC semi tickets earlier in the season. Never heard any complaints then. Never please everyone when it comes to tickets, the only thing they should have considered was an announcement a day in advance when tickets were going on sale then it would be a free for all for those who qualify to buy. Announcing at the same time as they go on sale is unfair. The criteria is reasonable.

  18. Celtic should limit the numbers on the HCTS from next season. Demand has outstripped supply when it comes to tickets for semis/finals at Hampden.

  19. Unfortunately the opposition dictates the availability of tickets and drawing sevco was always going to mean a shortage of tickets. If we progress to the final then there will possibly be more tickets available depending on the opposition. You’ll never satisfy everybody. The future timing of the notification e-mail, however, needs to be addressed.

  20. lets all do the huddle on

What a sorry mess the club have made of the SF tickets

if there’s not enough tickets to satisfy the criteria, then at least do a ballot of those who meet the criteria so people know where they stand

sending out an email in the morning and saying its first come first serve starting immediately shows a complete disregard for many of the folk who were good enough to sign up to the HCTS

you would be completely right to cancel your HCTS sign up next season

as for the criteria itself i.e. those on the HCTS are eligibile – i guess its can be argued as being fair enough.

however it does mean that someone on the scheme who didnt actually attent any of the 3 games was eligible, but season ticket holders not on the scheme who did attend the games wasnt

im sure that cant be right

yes, supply will never meet demand for a game like this – but the club can at least go through the motions of kidding on they give a toss about the fans

they didnt even bother doing that here

  25. Celtic TO have to my knowledge never announced a ticket sale in advance for a semi final. Everyone must have known the tickets would be coming out soon. Personally I was checking the website several times a day, by several I mean at least 6 times a day. The criteria yesterday was the same as the League Cup semi final which took 11 days to sell out. I received a text message and an email yesterday. Ultimately if you want tickets for these matches you need to be prepared as demand now outstrips supply. I couldn’t get to the TO so had to pay the £8.50 charges online.

Having said that, the number of people on the HCTS saying they didn’t get a ticket is strange. I would suggest the issue here is the number of tickets released rather than the process itself. I wonder if the TO got caught out by the demand and pulled the plug, by all accounts the queue at the TO was very long. I’m not convinced the Celtic end is completely sold out.
