Moussa’s Target Practice Torags, slump must end soon

842

You and I will miss our football this weekend but the winter break came at an excellent time for Celtic. They get to rest after an arduous nine game December on the back of handing Newco a lesson on their own pitch. Having to sit for three weeks, unable to get a defeat out your system, would have been torture.

Celtic have already played 36 competitive games this season (only one against lower league opposition). That’s close to a full league programme concertinaed into a little over five months. Add in the fact that almost the entire squad is involved in some form of international football and you realise the players have been on match duty twice a week since preseason.

This is exceptional and not conducive to delivering top performances. By comparison, Aberdeen have played 30 games (two against lower league teams) and Newco have played 28 (five against lower league sides). That’s eight and 10 times we’ve played two challenging games a week more than our direct opponents – neither of whom are particularly burdened by international football.

The second half of the season will be more balanced. We only have three midweek games scheduled, including our game in hand – so you can be reasonably confident our “slump” will end soon………..

We all remember the days when someone talking about putting in a £20m offer for a Celtic player would be held in a locked room until a deal was signed. We’ve been on a long road since, but the financial stability we’ve earned through many tough years affords us the ability to keep players who have several years to run on their contracts.

As for Moussa, I hear if we can arrange for him to play against the Target Practice Torags every week, he’d extend his contract until 2027.

Really enjoying the dissonance in some places over the anticipated approval of Kouassi Eboue’s work permit. Play by the rules, work inside areas you are allowed to and pay your dues. It’s not difficult.

By now you should be aware of The Road to Lisbon project. 28 cyclists will set off from Celtic Park on 11 May, arriving in Lisbon in time for the 50th anniversary of the Lions’ triumph. It is an immense project which is expected to raise tens of thousands for Celtic FC Foundation, Solving Kids Cancer and Children in Crossfire.

An opportunity exists for corporate sponsorship of the project. If you would like more information, look here, or email, theroadtolisbonmay2017@gmail.com

Poor picture and a big clock dominating the screen behind the goal we were defending in the second half.

The Clydebank Tim John McGinn is the real deal, his 2 big bro’s Stephen and Paul would tell you that. I first saw him play with my Godson when they were about 10.

Saint Peter the Apostle High School Clydebank is producing some good fitba players today.

    Garcia Lorca,

The away leg in Prague was, apparently, the one and only time that Jock put out a defensive team. He asked Stevie Chalmers to sacrifice himself for the team and he played as a one man forward line.

He kept the Dukla defence occupied every time the ball reached their end of the park.

*after the Real Madrid friendly in 1962 Bob Kelly stated that he had found his secret weapon against the “continentals”, of course the huns all laughed, were laughing on the other side of their faces less than 5 years later.

If Jock’s tactics wee a one off, so was his uncharacteristic bow to sentiment in guaranteeing Stevie’s p;ace in the final.

*who did he sacrifice for Stevie, Joe was injured as was the Bear.

    Tontine Tim,

I’m not sure, but I read the quote from him that Stevie was playing, due to his semi final performance.

Joe Mc.Bride was well out of the picture by then.

I played in a Saint Thomas Aquinas team that contained 2 future Celts. Tosh McKinlay and Pat McGinlay. Saint Pat’s hammered us in the Scottish cup in Dumbarton. Best team I ever played against at any level.

Although I am not too familiar with John Mc.Ginn, he looked to me as if he has bulked up a bit.

If it wasn’t for Armstrong producing the goods, I wouldn’t be unhappy if we pursued the lad.

Can’t remember the Dukla game being live, is this true?

  15. TONTINE TIM,

Are you sure it was only the one voice shouting for Joe to put the ball in the net. Probably the whole crowd were. He wasn’t a dribbler. He was the predator supreme. He played his role to perfection: he put the ball in the net.

  16. …..grey, but calm and dry ;-)

Anyway, this week’s CQN coupon picks are as follows.

    Jobo Baldie – Morton

    Awalkacrosstherooftops – WBA

    Pogmathonyahun – Wigan

    BMCUWP – Oxford

    Gerryfaethebrig – Bournemouth

    Lennybhoy – Southampton

The Exiled Tim – St Mirren

  17. Jobo, a sqwerr, bit o’ black pudding, a tattie scone, crispy back bacon and a wee fried egg (yolk hard please) will do nicely, ta! Better option than thon park run methinks, LOL…

    Just read this:

“Davies confirmed that Efe Ambrose is not travelling to Dubai with the squad due to an immigration issue”

Anyone know why an established Celtis pro is having problems accessing Dubai?

    ……………………………….

Just read your post. I was wondering about this the other day but in relation to Nir Biton. I’m pretty sure some Arab countries don’t allow you in if you have visited Israe. Nir is an Israeli citizen and Efe, I believe, still has a home there. I wonder if this might have anything to do with it.

Dukla game was on TV live, early kickoff 17.00 ? Poor picture but I was watching it .Fact HH

    …………………………….

I remember watching it too. I think it kicked off about 2 or 3 o’clock. Sunny conditions but absolutely terrible game. We spoiled the game and didn’t try to play football. Big Jock made sure we were going to the final.

  20. Marrakesh Express on

Re the Dukla game. Game only on radio according to my old man. Early evening highlights. I remember getting the HT score at school. Everyone was a bag of nerves. I heard the final result walking home and saw some older guys jumping about celebrating. What a feeling.

The Italy Scotland world cup qualifier in 65 was a midday kickoff and the St Dominics headmaster, knowing most would dog it, gave us extended lunch break to watch it (might even have been a half day). The same would certainly have applied to the Dukla game if on telly.

  21. mullet and co 2 on

I have to say I find reading my media stream absolutely hilarious and gratifying this morning.

Dembele is worth £30m, Armstrong could be worth £20m. We are in for this player, that player etc.

Read the comments below some of the MSM twitter feed on these articles.

‘Dembele has had half a good season’… ‘Dembele would be totally exposed found out in the EPL…

Then I read that John Toral has had 4 knee operations and suffers from a genetic condition. I know more about John Toral than I do about my maw. If Rangers had signed Eboue we would be getting regailed with stories from some ex player about his charitable works and his ability to pick his teeth with his big toe and how he was a great guy to have around the dressing room… in fact we all called him Eboueyey cos he was such a pal. Such a stand up charitable young man that he got a standing ovation down the Krasnodar lodge every time he came in.

Big John Toral though. Big John taught Hector Bellerin English and gave the whole Birmingham team Zara vouchers for Christmas (it was really the epiphany).

That aside, I am confident the fenian planets are aligning and that as we enter half a century as Scotlands (nee Ireland) only conquerors of Europe those Tim stars of ours are ramming in right down throats below those blue noses. Take it and eat it. Maybe if you hadn’t been selecting employees on an ethnically indigenous basis you would have won it as well. I am sure that’s it the Rangers lessons learned folder right beside don’t ever try to cheat with fishy tax schemes.

    Peace to all men.

  22. mullet and co 2 on

Mousa Dembeles DNA is trading higher than Gold and Orange Juice this morning on the LSE. This is due to the Rangers supporter outrage algorithm.

  23. Italy game was on telly in the afternoon. I remember watching it with other 4th yearers in a packed classroom in St Pat’s Dumbarton. Think the telly was brought in by the Spanish teacher – Spanish in that he taught Spanish.

    Ron Bacardi

If I remember right, big Stein (stand in manager?) got it badly wrong that day. Ron Yeats at centre forward, Yogi inside, and other strange choices. Tore apart by Italy and a pity because that squad would have went far in England 66.
