Mr Green and his invidious meetings

739

Information leaked from Charles Green that he is due to meet Celtic chief executive, Peter Lawwell today.  I’ve no idea if it’s true (sooo many wrong steers from over there) but, if accurate, it puts our man in an invidious position.  Mr Green appears generous when reviewing the success of meetings.

At his infamous ‘Blood on their hands’ press conference, would-be-pope-of-Ibrox, Brian Kennedy, told us “HMRC will not agree to a CVA until the very last minute”.  Why would they?  We believe Green has offered £8.5m but he has spoken about having raised £20m.  If HMRC are negotiating at all (and I have my doubts) they will want as much of that £20m as possible, and I’m sure they will, as Mr Kennedy suggested, wait until the very last minute before agreeing to anything (they won’t, b.t.w.).

None of this matters to Mr Green, he can say HMRC told him they’ll scrub the debt if he paints the Blue Room pink and no one can contradict him.  He is likely to be looking for some comfort from Mr Lawwell but I am sure he will be told that Celtic are unable to support any measure to parachute a Newco into the SPL (after his CVA fails, which it will).  Mr Green, who is also trying to maintain the support of the backers needed to commit cash by Friday, will almost certainly emerge from the meeting uttering words like “constructive”, “helpful” or maybe even “very positive”.

He is wasting his time.  Words like “sobering”, “alarming” and “downright obstinate” might be closer to the truth.

  1. Celt55 – re the Windies cricket woes, I read about the allure of basketball and the US college system too. However there also seems to have been some particularly inept management of the game by the national association. I’m sure they were involved with Alan Stanford and all his financial schenanigans (sounding familiar?) as well as an ill advised massive investment in building a bunch of stadiums for the world cup a few years back. The parallel is not a million miles away for somewhere closer to home.

  2. BigChipsUK, don’t want to take the risk that ticking the box might remind HMRC that I’m still alive. Having said that, all due tax is paid on my behalf out here – no rule-breaking for me! Good luck with your next fund-raiser!

Far from it mate. I have no idea what is being decided inside Celtic Park, because we are being offered only the speculation in the media, and with nothing else to go on but that and wild rumour, I have to mentally prepare myself for the worst.

If our club acts as it should, there will be no Rangers in our league next season. If we act in accordance with our founding principles, and with everything with have in the arsenal, then we will prevail. My view on that does not change, no matter what my opinions are on what the final outcome will be.

If we play all the cards we hold, we win. It’s that simple. When the opposing argument is to forgive all Rangers sins because the league needs both clubs, and that is ALL the opposing argument says, then by removing that option from the table – at a stroke – we change the whole nature of the debate.

If Rangers are in the SPL next season I will keep my money. If I believe that a grubby deal has been done, I am finished with Scottish Football. If there is any sign at all that we were involved, that our club has put commercial gain before our reputation, history and the opinions of almost 99% of the fans, I am done following Celtic as a football club for as long as we play in this league and as long as even one member of the present board holds office.

I am already decided on attending away matches come what may. For many clubs, those which support Rangers NewCo arrangement in any way, shape or form, I will never darken their door again.

If the so-called “custodians” of our game, of Celtic, of Scottish football, take the decision to reduce us to the level of consumers, cutting all ties with our emotional investments, then I am going to act as one.

But I do not believe it’s over yet. There is a ways to go before I have to make this horrible decision. That does not mean I have not thought about it.

Frankly, it keeps me awake at night.

So in great cqn tradition i’ll clarify a little… i didn’t slander anyone, if anyone took offence iy could surely only be due to there being a ring of truth yo my conjecture. i don’t think there is an easy solution to child labour and demonstrated my owm hypocracy in my earlier post to emphasisd this.

Unconditional love isn’t for mugs mate – it’s for everyone.

Love is a risk, there is no strategy to love – like faith it is run through with doubt.

And if you only give it to get it back you’ll be poor all your life.

    Brave people love unconditionally.

Knut Hansun stated that if you give yourself to life unconditionally, if you let yourself fall (metaphorically) then it will catch you.

Remember watching Scotland v Essex in the B&H (I think) about 15 years ago on a day like this. Essex, with Gooch, pringle etc rattled up 300+ off their 50 overs. Scotland had Gordon Greenidge guesting for them who smote the Essex bowlers all over Hamilton cresc as we sat on the boundary banging our beer cans togeher dishing out liberal amounts of “chat” to the Essex fielders. Unfortunateley he was out for about 60 odd which was a huge anti climax, but all in all it was a great days cricket.

RE: W Indies I can thoroughly recommend Fire in Babylon which charts the rise of the great Windies teams of the 70’s and beyond. After a humiliating defeat in Australia Clive Loyd vowed this would never happen again, the rest is history.

W.I. cricket has been spoiled by a variety of things- money, politics, money, the cyclical nature of sporting success, and money.

There are W.I. players making big money in the Indian T20 league who could strengthen the team, but weaken their bank balances. WI cricket has also suffered from interisland political strife which tends to only make things worse when the team are struggling on the field; I think the cricket team is the only area of life where the ‘West Indies’ exists as a joint enterprise.

England have a pretty good team just now; we’ll see just how good when SA play their tests later this year, and in 2013 when the Ashes return.

I have a feeling we’re all going to know shortly mate.

For the record, I still believe our club will act appropriately. For years people on this site have defended the strategy we have pursued, that of fiscal discipline and good governance. It took me a long time to buy into it, and it has cost us trophies, heartache and, I believe, a lot of infighting over the timeframe.

To reject that now, to embrace a club which has done the exact opposite, to risk reputational damage of incalculable proportions, to risk the fragmentation of our support and to essentially accept unacceptable violations of the rules, of the integrity of the game and cement Rangers position as the dominant force in our national game … I do not believe our board would do it.

D & P have give the BBC a 7 day deadline to issue an apology or they will give them another 7 day deadline followed by a 14 day deadline and if they’ve not apologised by then, then they may have to think about extending the deadline.

  23. One single pence in the pound!? Well, this is what it says at the end of this artcle lifted from the bbc news app.

[The Scottish Premier League has granted Rangers “a period of grace” after the club missed the deadline for filing financial documents.

Rangers, in administration since February, missed the deadline for submitting accounts to Uefa, meaning they will not play in Europe next term.

The Ibrox club have until Friday 15 June to provide documents to the SPL or they could face sanctions.

“The matter will be reviewed further at that time,” said an SPL spokesperson.

“Rangers FC made an application for a period of grace in terms of SPL Rule A2.7 in which to provide certain documents required by the SPL Financial Disclosure Requirements.

“The SPL Board granted a period of grace until Friday 15 June 2012 for the documentation to be provided.”

Completion of financial documents could be contingent on the club’s attempts to exit administration via a company voluntary arrangement.

Rangers’ administrators are in the process of contacting creditors with a pence in the pound offer to settle legacy debts.]

The SFA and SPL already have plenty of reason to further sanction the huns.

There are only a couple of reasons for them not doing so, firstly, they are a cash cow, secondly the backlash from their “support” could be ugly.

They haven’t paid any tax from May 2011 until February, I expect D&P did pay it thereafter. This on its own could be deemed reason for expulsion.

There seems no way they can survive, but the establishment will try every single means, legitimate or not.

Now this seems to exclude a certain debt that they are awaiting the result of an appeal against. Is this legal?

And if they exclude the Big Tax Case would that not take HMRC’s share of the debt to below 25%?
