MSPs feeding on distress

446

“The Club reiterates its sincere sympathy, regret and sorrow for those affected.”  “The Club is very sorry that these events took place.”

So read a statement by Celtic on historic child abuse allegations concerning Celtic Boys Club, issued on 26 February, before two consecutive items on Channel 4 News, in the latter of which, Alex Thomson said, “To date, not a single football club has issued a public apology.”

The broadcast actually carried the Celtic statement a few moments later.  That feels unnecessarily crass, Alex.  Several clubs have failed to issue a public apology for historic child abuse, only one in Scotland that I am aware of, issued an apology.

Celtic are not, as accused by Channel 4, silent on the matter.  They have now issued four public statements.

Celtic have been or are in dialogue with police, lawyers and victims.  As far as I am aware, they are the only Scottish club to have paid compensation to victims – this is all on record, Alex, payments made to victims – on record.  On-going dialogue – on record.  Public apologies – on record.  They are just not speaking to you, which is not actually that important.

What Channel 4 News authorised was vile attempts to reduce child abuse to football banter by Adam Tomkins, Tory MSP, who after Copenhagen’s win Tweeted, “Not the best week for Celtic, then….. #SorryNotSorry”

When it was put to James Dornan, SNP MSP, that Celtic and Celtic Boys Club were not linked, he responded, “It’s a complete nonsense, all the evidence suggests… that the Boys Club and the Football Club were intrinsically linked.”

Where is this complete nonsense coming from Mr Dornan, because here is what Celtic wrote: “although Celtic Football Club is a separate organisation, we take these extremely seriously because of the historic contacts between the two organisations?”

MSPs are feeding on distress.

What happened is vile and caused untold damage to the lives of many victims.  No amount of money will properly compensate for what happened, but sensitivity and diligence is required.  So too is responsible and accurate reporting.

  1. Just watched the “highlights” of big hun V wee hun, and noticed no studio mention of the wee hun goalie getting hit with a coin or some other object. You all know what would have been the case if that had been a Celtic fan etc . Makes me sick!

Lets beat St J today and enjoy the hun misery.

Over 30,000 died from flu last year, this is a totally ridiculous over reaction.

The case in England is of concern because the person has been infected there rather than abroad.

That is of huge significance if you are trying to contain a disease.

    Definitely.

That comes from the Rainjurz hymsheet, but he’s a big name player, nothing manager,

No intellect, no humility, no experience, reading from a script where the word Celtic is

    apparently deleted.

He’ll become a better person again, when he unshackles the poisonous environment he signed up to.

The Chinese managed it, closed business and institutions for three weeks, only one person per household allowed out with face mask mandatory.

Here we are three weeks later and they have it under control few if any new infections.

Couldn’t happen in the west, too many selfish arseholes demanding their freedom of movement not be restricted. That will ensure it will be much worse in the west, it’s just started.

I mentioned previously that I think Sevco’s problem is that they simply can’t handle the weight of expectation. Performances and results improve as expectation reduces, and vice versa.

In part, this is a consequence of their standard shape which makes it very difficult for technical teams to play through them.

Mostly though, it’s just a matter of bottle. As soon as the pressure increases, their’s crashes.

The uncertainty involved in the causation and the absence of a vaccine or a ” cure ” is most concerning .

As is the means of transmission. Droplet and physical contact. Apparently .

    Seemingly more uncertainties than certainties.

Better to over protect than under protect .

If you want to be informed , check an Australian ABC Four Corners programme on You Tube about the horrendous way the Chinese authorities have and are handling the issue which , as we know , emanated from China.

Thomsons reporting on the rangers going bust was good reporting. His coverage of historical abuse in Scottish football has been pretty poor so far.

He doesn’t seem to have researched the subject very well and he reported a number of inaccuracies regarding Celtic. Sadly people will pick and choose what they want to believe and the truth, and suffering of the victims gets lost in the whataboutery battles.

  17. Close friend Simon Donnelly revealed the news speaking on BBC Off the Ball. He said: “There’s some great news, he got home. He has obviously been through the mill in the last three weeks since everything happened.

    Celtic40me,

Fair comment, however the Chinese have no lied to me. The reporting is/will be subject to tampering however I do have a workmate who went home for their new year and has been in contact keeping me updated. This guy is a sceptic by nature and a bit of a tech with loads of contracts all over China and that’s the news he gives me from what he’s learned.

He expects to return mid March, could get back sooner but doesn’t want to take the chance travelling by rail. The ticket he got for mid March gets him flight to Beijing overnight at hotel while tests are taken and health confirmed then flight to Dubai.

Tells me this has been available for the last month but provincial city airports are only reopening over the last week.

As I said had he made his own way to Beijing he could have been back last month as most flights did not cancel it was the internal flights the govt decided to implement the crisis management strategy.

  22. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

Remember the Chinese developed a test that returns results within 15 minutes. Being able to focus their resources so quickly was the reason for such a quick turn around.

That would not have happened in the west where money is the driver.

I see macjay babbling shite about the Chinese no being able to develop a cure/vaccine, he’ll be able to tell us who has developed the cure/vaccine for the common cold.

  23. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Bada…,

I don’t think pneumonia is infectious so add that to it’s armoury and think about the possible numbers now.
