Mubarak brings echoes of another adamant player

1779

Occasionally an innocuous comment left here can stay with you for years.  The day following the 2005 defeat in Bratislava someone wrote, “I suspect we’ll find an injury in Nakamura’s fitness test”.  The player was scheduled to sign imminently, but with Champions League income looking unlikely, doubts emerged that Celtic would pay the money.

Soon others expressed doubts that Shunsuke would want to come, but within 48 hours of that defeat, he was sitting in front of the media at Celtic Park.  I was there, among a gaggle of Japanese and Scottish journos, when one of the locals asked why the prospect of being without European football didn’t put him off.

Shunsuke handled the question perfectly, “I am not here for six games of football, I have signed for Celtic and hope to play here for many years.”  Rumour has it that not everyone in the dressing room back then was equally as enthusiastic about life in Glasgow.

I’ve heard lots about Wakaso Mubarak in recent weeks, he appears to be a genuine talent, as well as being spirited.  What is most appealing about him is that he wants to be here.  This deal would not have happened if the player was not absolutely committed to coming to the club, and making his stay a success.

Back in August 2005 we didn’t know what we were getting with Naka, and I’m not going to burden Wakaso with a comparison to a player who turned out to be a transformational legend, but we need players with big personalities who can walk into the dressing room with the determination to be there, just as Naka did.

Welcome to Celtic, Wakaso.  Be yourself and you’ll love Glasgow; Glasgow will love you too.

Was agreeing in entirety until the last paragraph.

Captain Beefy mentioned earlier that one who flounced was also an Aberdeen supporter.

How can that be compatible with supporting Celtic when they are a direct competitor. Still each to their own.

  2. Moving somewhere else to get away from Sevco won’t work. They would soon follow having had their free run at European money. Any league we go to would most likely fall over backwards to welcome them with their big (ish) fan base and the prospect of hosting ‘OF mark 2’.

Unless we move to the R.O.I. or, they go out of business completely, I’m afraid they are with us forever.

  3. setting free the bears for Res. 12 & Oscar Knox but saying no to CQN racists

That’s a knowledge base I can never match.

It was not really my point and I should never have used Arsenal as an example, the EPL model is a distraction in any discussion.

We have a set of teams in Europe we need to be the same as or better than …. we are falling behind them. In my opinion. Next season we might not make the play off game.

Sevco would have been gone by now, just like their horrific knuckle…

    ……………………………………..

    Have to disagree.

Sevco will be with us forever – in some incarnation or another.

They would never, ever have disappeared, regardless of what anyone else did.

My understanding is that Celtic objected to their parachuting into the SPL and have complained to Uefa about the Uefa certificate that the SFA wrongly issued to them in 2011.

When Salmond champions them as part of the fabric of Scottish life, and the establishment wants them to survive and thrive, notwithstanding their cheating, criminality and tax evasions – then I think Celtic are very limited in what they can/could do.

We have music tastes in common, but diverge on this point.

Hi James hope you’re well! Reading the articles OFOG keep it going good stuff

According to the Official Biography of Celtic Football Club, we refused access to Championship as we would be required to stay there for 3 years before promotion.

However reading on it also says FA blocked vote at the end, so maybe not

  8. “However, rather than creating the independent republic favoured by most nationalists, … would be an autonomous dominion of the British Empire with the British monarch as head of state, in the same manner as Canada and Australia.”

You might be forgiven for thinking that the above is an extract from the SNP white Paper, however it is a description of the entity of the Free State that Republicans so vehemently opposed.

  9. SFTB,

There is already plenty of evidence of the corruption practised by our current First Minister and his acolytes like MacKaskill. Just think of their claim that they could not produce the evidence which showed that Catholics are so much more likely to be attacked than any other group, because said evidence was destroyed. Only it can’t be destroyed. Look at the whole OB act they rushed through, to even things up. And, as Frank Carson was likely to say. there’s more; plenty more. All conveniently forgotten by too many on here who are clamouring for us to vote Yes.

Emotionally, I would want to vote Yes but I wouldn’t trust the current parcel of rogues as far as I could throw them. And I am not in any shape or form wanting to foist Boris or Farage on anybody. But Salmond and his coterie are not interested in a socialist wonderland in Scotland. They simply currently are targetting the Labour vote because they know that without them they haven’t a hope in hell. Scotland deserves a whole lot better than the SNP and in particular Salmond. I know it is not inevitable that, if Independence is voted for, the SNP will be voted into power but I believe that that is precisely what will happen.

You’re not voting for Salmond and his mob. You’re voting on whether or not the Scottish people should decide Scotland’s future, and it’s as simple as that.

No more governments forced us by southern England. The government we vote for, as a country, every time and if that’s Salmond, Hell, if one day in our future it’s the Tories, then so be it. Taking our own decisions … that’s where the arguments begin and end for me.

I understand what your concern is … but any government that wants to start pulling apart religious freedom and choice will have to take it to the voters and stick it in a manifesto. I was in the game a long time. Everyone knows that stuff is electoral kryptonite. It’ll never, ever, ever, ever happen mate.
