Occasionally an innocuous comment left here can stay with you for years. The day following the 2005 defeat in Bratislava someone wrote, “I suspect we’ll find an injury in Nakamura’s fitness test”. The player was scheduled to sign imminently, but with Champions League income looking unlikely, doubts emerged that Celtic would pay the money.
Soon others expressed doubts that Shunsuke would want to come, but within 48 hours of that defeat, he was sitting in front of the media at Celtic Park. I was there, among a gaggle of Japanese and Scottish journos, when one of the locals asked why the prospect of being without European football didn’t put him off.
Shunsuke handled the question perfectly, “I am not here for six games of football, I have signed for Celtic and hope to play here for many years.” Rumour has it that not everyone in the dressing room back then was equally as enthusiastic about life in Glasgow.
I’ve heard lots about Wakaso Mubarak in recent weeks, he appears to be a genuine talent, as well as being spirited. What is most appealing about him is that he wants to be here. This deal would not have happened if the player was not absolutely committed to coming to the club, and making his stay a success.
Back in August 2005 we didn’t know what we were getting with Naka, and I’m not going to burden Wakaso with a comparison to a player who turned out to be a transformational legend, but we need players with big personalities who can walk into the dressing room with the determination to be there, just as Naka did.
Welcome to Celtic, Wakaso. Be yourself and you’ll love Glasgow; Glasgow will love you too.

I ponder how those who worry most about what the Orangies do AFTER the Yes vote reconcile themselves to the idea that these are the people most likely to vote No.
Strange bedfellows some of y’all are keeping these days, seriously.
Sleeping with the enemy is one thing … but squaring this circle must be very tough. It would take more than just Cognitive Dissonance.
kitalba:
I don’t even know what that question means. I know it’s not a serious one any more than “where do our kids go if they are abroad and get into trouble” is.
SFTB
Ha! Nice one.
I enjoyed our discussion, but having been offline for 12 hours, let it go when I picked up your reply from the previous night.
The matter at hand was… that there are a number of rather odious groups backing the No campaign, but kept out of sight.
As I recall, your view was that there’s no difference between an individual supporting a given position, and an organised group doing the same, and gave a few examples of unpleasant or very wealthy individuals backing Yes.
My view was, and remains, that there is a substantial difference, and it lies largely in the motivation to collectivise, not least where that motivation runs contrary to the equality agenda we both support.
I also sense that the UK is getting ever closer to becoming some Daily Mail parody, but that’s perhaps for another day.
Time poor today though.

ernie lynch don’t think I mentioned the guy’s name so pleased you watched it, any comment on the content?
#####
I clicked on the link, reconnised the guy’s name, didn’t play the video and came back here.
I take it you don’t know who he is.
Ernie if as you say the majority of Scottish people don’t want to leave the UK then they will win the vote and everything will stay as it is.
Jasmes Forrest:
You were making out that those in Westminster were bad…. I was asking if everybody in Scotland was good.
My point about Scottish embassys could be more sincere.
Do you have children to worry about James?
Inside out or Outside in?

Although Johansen is well-schooled in Ronny’s tactic’s I think it’ll be the Brown/Lustig axis that Ronny will use to ensure the midfield/defence are in tune with each other.
All this I have to admit is pure conjecture but that’s the fun in second-guessing the manager and what’s likely to happen.
Whilst we’re at second-guessing I can’t for the life of me see the logic in giving the captaincy to Charlie Mulgrew, he’d probably one of my last choices for the role.

That’s what’s going to happen. The only surprise will be the size of the no majority.
My point about Scottish embassys couldn’t be more sincere.
Who are you to tell me when I being serious?
Usually don’t wade into the political stuff, but a good few who have followed this good lady.

Wow…I thought id already settled this debate.
Don’t vote for any of them, you will just encourage them to lie even more.
And wait till super sally and the cardigan are running to get elected…whoof
Hun landslide.
Im serious as well, picture the scene…..the cardigan being welcomed to the scoddish parliament, by salmond and the morningside grey.
Don’t say I never warned you.

Such arrogance.

It’s a huge YES from me for the Championship in England
How guys can mump and moan about the influence of the deid Huns and Zombies in Scottish football yet want to stay tied to them is beyond me!
We claim to be a big club so why would we not want to be part of a much bigger set up
Freed from the MIB we would stand or fall by our own efforts – in football I’m all for it
Inside 3 years we would be in the EPL – the ground’s capacity would be up to 80k
The place would be bouncing every second week
Inside another 3 years we would be back in Europe and inside 5 we would be challenging for the title
Our exposure world wide would be huge especially in the USA
What’s not to like?
HH
Hey, Ernie, you suggested to Hamiltontim that the Celtic fans (Green Brigade) to display the Palestinian Flag as it would show them ( Palestinians) support. At the same time why don’t you and the other Unionist Celtic Fans display the Union Flag at Celtic Park to show the Unionist Celtic fans support? After we are an inclusive club, right?
And Draft Dodger Jim Murphy could have an Israeli Flag, could be a cosy wee corner.
Ok so setting free the bears you refuse to move beyond Marxism or acknowledge that Marx was a Freemason and that for all the good of the workers owning the means of production their where anti egalitarian statements in more of his works and that of his intellectual philosophers than rights based arguments. Chavez and Chez Guevara where much more about the people than he was and they where not freemasonic cult members. I am not garbled in my thinking at all but am trying to distinguish between different types of globalism, the bad form the elite wants to run the world with and the good, decentralized, non automoton, non Orwellian form Chavez promoted. And also make people aware their is an elephant in the shadows beyond just the materialistic or capitalist motivations of wars for oil etc social-centralism is about putting people first, redistribution of wealth is part of that so too is protecting the environment or animals without resorting to fatalism based arguments that become anti human progress or anti human liberty, both can be achieved but the key is not that animals are elevated to equal or greater than humans but that we do not needlessly harm or kill them, the trick is in the word “needless”, other things are part of social centralism such as workers collectives, co-operatives, credit unions. Individualistic Collectivism is another name for it, the rights of the individual must be protected but to so much the individual feel a duty to society and society should encourage an anti materialistic, pro technology pro environment background so that alturism is more likely but the tax codes and laws itself should be there to give saftey nets and jobs to the poor and needy.
Pure Individualism or automaton conformism (Philosophical rather than idealist Marxists, idealist Marxists often operate what they think is Marxism but is in fact closer to the social-centralism socialism I favour) are the enemy, estoeric elites are too, true pluarlsim and tolerance of difference is the key. The yes campaign is backed by secular society and those folks hate religion and are in fact a creation of the esoteric societies, I mean as in the very origin of the original humanist societies and their philopsophies come from a dark place where like Marx life only has value when given it by those of more worth.
Why don’t you wont to critique socialism and marxism to bring it free from the errors and corruptions he introduced to suit esoteric theologies and return or create a new form of socialism which is truly about human rights and the poor and protecting the beauty of the individual too, before Marx came a long the socialists had many such non masonic philosophers who had a purer form of Socalism than Marx, one that respected pluarsim and opposed tyranny of any totalitarian goverment no matter what ism they had in their name.
Ernie I also think the NO majority will be quite large only because people are scared to go into the unknown It is a massive decision which I think should have had a longer time period for people to decide.
kitalba:
Your not a stupid person, although you seem to be going out of your way today to convince people that you are … but you’ve asked a question, and as dumb as I find it I will do you the courtesy of giving you an answer, even though you already know what I’ll say.
The difference between a corrupt band of political charlatans in Westminster and a corrupt band of political charlatans in Holyrood is that our ability to remove the first group depends to a large extent on voters in another part of the country, who’s values and views and belief systems might not necessarily reflect ours. The Westminster system itself breeds that corruption and its organised so it’s self policing – a strategy that worked great at the SFA and for Rangers, eah? – and as long as it is it won’t change.
In Holyrood, much closer to home, with values closer to those of the voters precisely because it’s smaller and more grounded, and where we can actually influence who sits in there more easily, and readily, it will be easier to get rid of those who fall below certain standards … and we can actually decide WHAT those standards should be before that Parliament even sits for its first session.
A new constitutional arrangement means what it says on the tin, and an actual written constitution on top of it … which we don’t have now.
The embassy question is ludicrous, as you well know. Everyone in Scotland will have the option to retain dual nationality – it’s in the White Paper, and it’s not the subject of ANY debate at all or controversy – and Scotland will, in due course have its own diplomatic corps, again, as is already laid out in the White Paper.
I took the time to read it. I suggest doing the same. It may clarify things a bit.
There’s nothing in it about ending religious education by the way. Those pages must have got lost at the printers or something because changing that will require a democratic mandate, and as I said before there is no stomach for that particular fight in ANY of the political parties out there. It’s a non-starter, a spook story with no basis in reality.
Is Scotland oppressed ?
NO
Is Scotland Suppressed?
YES – culturally and politically it IS suppressed against a larger neighbour who by and large view themselves as superior to everyone in Scotland at a political and cultural level. This in no way reflects on most normal people but to deny it is either ignorance or a deliberate attempt to ignore what is going on around you.
The union was supposed to be an equal partnership. It isn’t.
Scottish Nationalism is civic and no amount of smearing nonsense from British
Nationalists can change that whereas their point of view is the polar opposite. We don’t hate anyone and we don’t believe we are better than anyone else but we don’t believe we are less than anyone else either. The Brit nats DO believe they are better than other people and that they are better than Scots.
British nationalists (and this blog has its fair share) believe we are too wee too poor and too stupid. They cannot articulate any positive reasons why we should remain in a union with a record like this ones other than we started out as part of it (Of course the conveniently ignore the fact that no one was asked and that there were mitigating circumstances which coerced us into it but there you go).
They pretend they are Irish nationalists but they are really British nationalists. They don’t have the balls to admit it.
I support Ireland’s right to be its own nation. I support Scotland’s right to do the same and run both of their affairs.
Anyone who says anything else is selling something.
As Margo MacDoonald said when you depend on yourself you try harder you achieve more you grow taller and stronger.
That is Scottish nationalism. Not ethnic superiority complexes which the Orange Order, the EDL, SDL, UKIP and Britain First believe in.

Snake Plissken:
Scottish tax revenues helped build the Bank of England, the central bank of the UK and the lodestone of the £.
If Scotland were seen as an equal partner, the Westminster parties would not, and could not, in all apparent seriousness, have lined up to tell us that all those years of contributing to Britain (which we’re told is an unqualified success story, right?) didn’t matter a damn because we’re entitled to sod all.
Equal partnership? Never has been, never will be. They’ve never even made a secret about how they view that, and their stance on currency was no surprise.
They would not keep us part of their Union by offering us parity, and anything like equality of opportunity or representation or anything else. They would do it by threats and bullying and fear and smear, like an abusive husband keeps a wife who wants out.
And that, to me, is a clearer indication of what their values are than anything else they could do. Their conduct has revealed their motivation.
We ARE suppressed. Let there be no question about that at all.
How about a referendum on the future of Celtic football club
Can’t believe that 90% of this articles posts are about the Scottish independence vote .. Given that we are at a very low ebb as a club I would have expected a happy clappers v mineshafters battle with the bored bashers v lawell ” loyalists” prevalent
James Forrest
Amen brother
Aw the poor wee nats, being all suppressed by the big bad English.
Pathetic.

Surely you are not suggesting that the North Twix / South Twix discussion accounted for the other 10%?
ernie lynch:
That comment is pathetic.
Us “poor we Nats” are showing more balls than many citzens, of any nation, will ever muster, and that’s a fact. We’re not content to live with the status quo. We’re embracing risk, embracing change, taking a jump into the unknown.
We are the most fearless political activists in Europe outside the Ukraine.
No-one has to feel sorry for US … I feel sorry for the people hiding under the bed.
Leave Karl Marx alone….he had a cracking beard, and you are just jealous.

James:
You just cannot divest your arrogance, can you? Did I call you stupid? What was it you were whingeing about earlier, people playing the man and not the ball or something like that. Short memory mate, short memory.
So you read the white paper, what does that mean? When have you ever known politicians to hold true to their word, regardless of nationality.
Scotland has a history of misplacing documents, especially those which prove how bigotted it can get at times.
You vote Yes if you want to, I don’t get to vote though I am every bit as Scottish as you are, that fact alone stinks to hell.
