Murty again undermined ahead of Celtic game

379

One lesson on what happens when you undermine your manager in the days before facing Celtic was not enough for Newco, who today let it be known Steve Gerrard is on their shortlist when they tell Graeme Murty he will not retain the job.

One of the worst things for a football club is irrelevance, so this chat about Gerrard has achieved some merit – they are being reported.  The ‘news’ may or may not have more substance than earlier news, that Derek McInnes was about to be appointed manager, but giving your supporters reason to believe they are relevant is worth something.

The seven thousand or so who will attend Celtic Park on Sunday (they should be there for the start of the game at least, although they tend to leave en-mass on conceding the fourth goal) will have a sprint in their step for the future.  It may even sustain them through what could be a harrowing Celtic experience, comforted in the knowledge that whatever happens, the future is yet to be mapped out.

This plays out differently in the dressing room.  Graeme Murty’s authority has been shot.  No wonder players can openly question the manager’s ability.  Even if this leaking of part of the short list sells a few season tickets, it will do nothing for the team on Sunday, much like Bitcoin bonus codes.

Murty must tactically prepare a team to deny Celtic the chance to win the championship.  On his day, he is capable of achieving this, on two occasions now he has taken a point from Celtic Park.  But these results were achieved when he arrived on the Celtic Way ahead of a united and embattled squad, with the support of board and fans.  Not the players don’t want him, the fans don’t want him and the board don’t even consider the task ahead of him when writing to fans or speaking to the media.

Steven Gerrard is, of course, another Celtic fan/brother and would become Newco’s third successive manager with these credentials.  He has been a regular at Celtic games for years.  You would be forgiven for regarding this persistent policy as flattery.  I don’t see any problems with the appointment.

Raffle to play in an 11-a-side game at Celtic Park

An incredible opportunity to play on the hallowed turf at Celtic Park around the end of the current season 2017-18, in Club sponsor Intelligent Car Leasing’s match.

You will be provided with complimentary Celtic kit and receive the full match-day experience including arrival through the front door, access to the dressing room and proudly walking down the tunnel to enter the famous field of play.

Both squads will be managed by a former Celtic player. Date 16 May, 11:00 kick off. All monies raised will be donated to Celtic FC Foundation, a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (number SC024648).

To enter the raffle, make a minimum donation of £5 to the Foundation at this MyDonate page.  Then send your donation confirmation email to this address: celticquicknews@gmail.com

The opportunity to play on Celtic Park is just beyond words.  I did it a few years ago, the memories will live forever, as will the photographs.  The experience of preparing in the dressing room, as so many greats have done before, was fabulous.

You can enter for yourself, or gift the prize to someone you know aged 18 or over. Competition closes at 15:00 this Friday, 27th.

Good luck!

On both occasions I think weather conditions more than any tactical nous were a factor in them getting a point.

A factor hopefully not in play on Sunday.

Reckon he will keep the “big names” exclusively for them.

More likely to be some random Motherwell player that we’re not remotely interested in so that they can “beat Celtic to his signature”.

  5. Employ an ex-Liverpool legend as a manager, with no top-level managerial experience, at a club that’s going through challenging times? What could possibly go wrong?

Deadly serious about the weather conditions favouring them in those 2 games.

Although, at one point. Gordon tried the now famous lob onto the head of the full back (KT, in this case) but it took a bounce before him and the wind took it over his head.

So maybe it saved us rather than them…still maintain it would have been 4-1 or 5-1 if it’d been a decent surface :)

  9. Interesting that the SFA wish clubs to get a signature for proof of delivery, yet having this done, they will not replace any lost or partly torn ticket.

I have just realised that the Hampden tickets say concession on the ones I have received in the past, yet I am always charged the full price. Any suggestions as to why that should be so?

  20. Connaire12,

I was in the Jungle the night of that 3-1 game. I was right in line when we scored the 2 goals in the last few minutes. People were saying that the deid team’s supporters occupied part of the Jungle back in the day. We scored the 2 goals at their end and there were none of them in the Jungle that night.

By the bye, that was SOME night.

If it turns out to be a Liverpool REal Madrid final, I wont be too upset …. on their day, both teams can play some nice football… and Mo Salah is probably the most fun player to watch just now … and CR7 seems to raise his game for the CL ….

  26. Some times you just have to make a choice.

It cost me £43.50 for my Cup Final ticket.

I didn’t need to buy it but I chose to.

I could’ve watched it on the TV but I wanted to be there, in Hampden, ( a stadium I loathe), to support my club creating history.

It was the same for the League Cup Final and last year’s Cup Final.

It will be the same for next year’s major cup ties.

Last year I paid much more to see Van Morrison,( who I seen at least a dozen times ), the Beach Boys and Cat Stevens.

I also paid much, much more to go to Lisbon for the 50th anniversary celebrations.

There is zero point in complaining about it.

You either choose to pay the going rate or don’t.

  28. I happen to think Sunday will be a close encounter (of the turd kind?)

There will be some meaty challenges from the boys in blue after being mocked for barely getting near a Celtic player at Hampden. Of course, Craigy Thomson out on his last hurrah is bound to apply a very liberal interpretation of the rules against such challenges.

I noticed that my payment for my season ticket had been paid over to Celtic. Quick work as I only sent in my application on Tuesday. Someone must be working overtime gathering in the money at Celtic Park.
