Murty again undermined ahead of Celtic game

379

One lesson on what happens when you undermine your manager in the days before facing Celtic was not enough for Newco, who today let it be known Steve Gerrard is on their shortlist when they tell Graeme Murty he will not retain the job.

One of the worst things for a football club is irrelevance, so this chat about Gerrard has achieved some merit – they are being reported.  The ‘news’ may or may not have more substance than earlier news, that Derek McInnes was about to be appointed manager, but giving your supporters reason to believe they are relevant is worth something.

The seven thousand or so who will attend Celtic Park on Sunday (they should be there for the start of the game at least, although they tend to leave en-mass on conceding the fourth goal) will have a sprint in their step for the future.  It may even sustain them through what could be a harrowing Celtic experience, comforted in the knowledge that whatever happens, the future is yet to be mapped out.

This plays out differently in the dressing room.  Graeme Murty’s authority has been shot.  No wonder players can openly question the manager’s ability.  Even if this leaking of part of the short list sells a few season tickets, it will do nothing for the team on Sunday, much like Bitcoin bonus codes.

Murty must tactically prepare a team to deny Celtic the chance to win the championship.  On his day, he is capable of achieving this, on two occasions now he has taken a point from Celtic Park.  But these results were achieved when he arrived on the Celtic Way ahead of a united and embattled squad, with the support of board and fans.  Not the players don’t want him, the fans don’t want him and the board don’t even consider the task ahead of him when writing to fans or speaking to the media.

Steven Gerrard is, of course, another Celtic fan/brother and would become Newco’s third successive manager with these credentials.  He has been a regular at Celtic games for years.  You would be forgiven for regarding this persistent policy as flattery.  I don’t see any problems with the appointment.

Raffle to play in an 11-a-side game at Celtic Park

An incredible opportunity to play on the hallowed turf at Celtic Park around the end of the current season 2017-18, in Club sponsor Intelligent Car Leasing’s match.

You will be provided with complimentary Celtic kit and receive the full match-day experience including arrival through the front door, access to the dressing room and proudly walking down the tunnel to enter the famous field of play.

Both squads will be managed by a former Celtic player. Date 16 May, 11:00 kick off. All monies raised will be donated to Celtic FC Foundation, a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (number SC024648).

To enter the raffle, make a minimum donation of £5 to the Foundation at this MyDonate page.  Then send your donation confirmation email to this address: celticquicknews@gmail.com

The opportunity to play on Celtic Park is just beyond words.  I did it a few years ago, the memories will live forever, as will the photographs.  The experience of preparing in the dressing room, as so many greats have done before, was fabulous.

You can enter for yourself, or gift the prize to someone you know aged 18 or over. Competition closes at 15:00 this Friday, 27th.

Good luck!

Yo ho ho and off we go…

Interesting how they chose to play/instruct the SMSM this week.

Brown says this, Brown says that; ‘Celtic legend’ says this, ‘Celtic legend’ says that. Essentially write off Sevco’s chances and portray over-confidence in the Celtic camp – almost the complete antithesis of the ‘cheers from the dressing room’ that was the narrative ahead the semi-final. Defeat is to be expected , a draw is a win and a win is a public holiday.

Fast forward to the latter part of the week and squirrels/good news stories abound: do not fret if we lose. Stevie G is our manager, Gigsy(?) is back in goal and we’re close to signing someone from Burnley no-one’s heard of.

I’d rather our captain had been a little more low key (with a nod to the likelihood his words were twisted to fit the complacency/forgone conclusion narrative), but if I trust anyone to their talking on the pitch it’s Scott Brown.

Bring BMCUW back up the road with you on Saturday. He can have my seat for Sunday’s match. Great news P.

  9. CCB, good news. Best wishes to M and all of you at this difficult time. Hopefully a speedy recovery. See you both in Belfast if not before. HH

  10. Do we play Armstrong and Rogic against Sevco on Sunday guys?

Looks like Brendan is going to go with a back 3 again, that will be a worry for me.

Same starting 11 as cup semi. 4231.

I would play Roberts instead of Forrest but don’t think that’ll happen.

  12. DAVID66 on 26TH APRIL 2018 9:25 PM

Lustig is fit and ready to play according Lustig.

If he’s not then Hendry will start.

  13. Gary67 cheers. I knew I had seen that he had a broken toe. But if he says he is fit to play then he better be.

  14. I would certainly start with 4 at the back, as I don’t think big Jack has enough experience of playing right of a back 3. He can get experience against other teams after we get this game out of the way.

I would play Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic in every Celtic match. Love the both of them.

  16. DD to mix it up a bit I would start with those 2 on Sunday, 2 greeeeaaaat footballers that could rip them apart. IMO

  17. According to Proddie Forsyth sevco asked Liverpool’s permission to speak to Stevie G but BBC are reporting SG is on a shortlist.

Well my understanding of important appointments is if you are being head hunted you are the candidate for the job and you only go onto a shortlist if you have applied for the job and have successfully gained an interview.

Like every body else I smell ?

  18. CCB…

Great news about Mick, I caught your post earlier and text him that you’ve been keeping the blog up to date on his recovery.
