Murty again undermined ahead of Celtic game

379

One lesson on what happens when you undermine your manager in the days before facing Celtic was not enough for Newco, who today let it be known Steve Gerrard is on their shortlist when they tell Graeme Murty he will not retain the job.

One of the worst things for a football club is irrelevance, so this chat about Gerrard has achieved some merit – they are being reported.  The ‘news’ may or may not have more substance than earlier news, that Derek McInnes was about to be appointed manager, but giving your supporters reason to believe they are relevant is worth something.

The seven thousand or so who will attend Celtic Park on Sunday (they should be there for the start of the game at least, although they tend to leave en-mass on conceding the fourth goal) will have a sprint in their step for the future.  It may even sustain them through what could be a harrowing Celtic experience, comforted in the knowledge that whatever happens, the future is yet to be mapped out.

This plays out differently in the dressing room.  Graeme Murty’s authority has been shot.  No wonder players can openly question the manager’s ability.  Even if this leaking of part of the short list sells a few season tickets, it will do nothing for the team on Sunday, much like Bitcoin bonus codes.

Murty must tactically prepare a team to deny Celtic the chance to win the championship.  On his day, he is capable of achieving this, on two occasions now he has taken a point from Celtic Park.  But these results were achieved when he arrived on the Celtic Way ahead of a united and embattled squad, with the support of board and fans.  Not the players don’t want him, the fans don’t want him and the board don’t even consider the task ahead of him when writing to fans or speaking to the media.

Steven Gerrard is, of course, another Celtic fan/brother and would become Newco’s third successive manager with these credentials.  He has been a regular at Celtic games for years.  You would be forgiven for regarding this persistent policy as flattery.  I don’t see any problems with the appointment.

Raffle to play in an 11-a-side game at Celtic Park

An incredible opportunity to play on the hallowed turf at Celtic Park around the end of the current season 2017-18, in Club sponsor Intelligent Car Leasing’s match.

You will be provided with complimentary Celtic kit and receive the full match-day experience including arrival through the front door, access to the dressing room and proudly walking down the tunnel to enter the famous field of play.

Both squads will be managed by a former Celtic player. Date 16 May, 11:00 kick off. All monies raised will be donated to Celtic FC Foundation, a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (number SC024648).

To enter the raffle, make a minimum donation of £5 to the Foundation at this MyDonate page.  Then send your donation confirmation email to this address: celticquicknews@gmail.com

The opportunity to play on Celtic Park is just beyond words.  I did it a few years ago, the memories will live forever, as will the photographs.  The experience of preparing in the dressing room, as so many greats have done before, was fabulous.

You can enter for yourself, or gift the prize to someone you know aged 18 or over. Competition closes at 15:00 this Friday, 27th.

Good luck!

  1. Morning fellow hoops,

Been browsing a bit this week on the exercise bikes at the gym but been too busy at work to post. Thankfully my Friday morning is bit quitter, so thought id pop on and wish everyone a champion weekend.

Never keen on games where Celtic is the only team playing with something to lose so would be lying if my paranoia isn’t kicking in tad. Just need to remind myself that the Brendan and the bhoys know what they are doing.

  2. I’m not knocking my pan in thinking of bread puns , as it’s plain I’m not smart enough.

  3. If I was to say I don’t see the knead for anymore bread puns will that make me more of an outsider on here ;)

  4. Pog are you in Coias on Sunday morning? Are you partial to Stornoway Black Pudding? H H Hebcelt

A wee tale regarding that: a few years ago Mrs VFR and I arrived in Manhattan late on the Friday night and I always try to adjust to local time immediately. So I went to bed around midnight.

Wakened up just before 7 and decided to get ready straight away and go for breakfast. We were staying on Broadway so walked up to one of the local eateries for breakfast just after 8. First day of the holidays so when the young waiter asked what I wanted for breakfast I ordered French Toast & bacon and a Sam Adams. he looked straight at me and said “it’s just after 8am sir”. So I said “aye your right son, give me a single malt as well!”

He looked at Mrs VFR who said “his belly is telling him it’s just after 1pm in Glasgow”. He picked his jaw off of the floor and came back with a nice cold beer and a Glenlivet! I ate the breakfast as well!

    It’s always beer o’clock somewhere!

Sam Adams and Blue Moon are my favourite American beers! I used to drink in a pub in Croydon a few years ago that sold both on draught!

Goose Island Goose IPA is the only choice for Sunday. The bottles sport green and white hoops…

I do like a blonde but not in the form a beer :-) plus when i see Blue Moon i always think of Man Shitty and that gives me the rage :-)

Achor Steam Beer is another go to for me. Have you tried Sam Adams Oktoberfest? probably the best beer i have ever tasted.

  11. DAVIDOPOULOS on 27TH APRIL 2018 9:36 AM

Goose is outstanding! Unfortunately the bottles are hard to get these days. Most places are selling 330ml cans :-(

  12. Not going to lie i am getting thirsty and there is a Brewdog literally 2 minutes from my office #temptation

  13. POG

Given his “sanctioning” of Arfield and McGregor he could do the team talk while he is there.

  14. Seánp1916

Yep, Goose is my second favourite. Sierra Nevada being my number 1 choice.

Basically just like beers with green labels :D

  15. DAVIDOPOULOS on 27TH APRIL 2018 9:49 AM

I cannot get the taste for Sierra Nevada unfortunately its too light for me. I do however enjoy a Flying Dog. Best names for beers going “Doggy Style” & “Ragin Bitch”

  16. I’ve sanctioned the use of Celtic Park this weekend for the purposes of a football match…..I’m also in the process of sanctioning next week’s weather…..and I’m being considered for the role of Sanity Clause in the upcoming, summer blockbuster…..

    Aye!

  17. Pog the answer to your question is I don’t think so, hope to see you Sunday morning. H H Hebcelt

  18. Ah yes Punk. Very drinkable and pretty widely available these days.

If you fancy something with a bit of bite you should try Jack Hammer IPA 7.2% ABV

  19. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Interesting about Steve Clarke, if true. Certainly sounds plausible. The MSM were touting him big time a couple of weeks ago. Never gets mentioned now.

Interesting that none of the other names on the “short list” have came out – only Gerrard. Hmmmm…..

And none of our award winning journalists seem able to speak to Gerrard? They couldn’t leave McInnes alone when he was in the frame.

Any progress on the Van Persie signing?

  20. In the unlikely event that *cough*….the “red -tape” is completed on time and all personal demands are met I will likely take the fragrant Mrs Sanity Clause as my partner in the dug-ooot……..

  21. As for Stevie Clarke….musta missed the sleekit msm interview where the boul’ bhoy wet his trackies at the suggestion of getting involved with latest “rainjurz” franchise………

  22. SEÁNP1916 I have tasted the Oktoberfest and it’s lovely; but very difficult to get here.

It’s a pity that most peoples experience of American beer in the UK is limited to Bud ( a Czech beer) and Miller.

The American beers are generally of a higher quality and both Goose and Brooklyn Brewery beers are first class.

  23. VFR

    Absolutely.

Bud & particularly Miller are definitely in the same Toxic puddle water category as that good old institution that is Tenants lager.
