My bet is on Kris

1124

It’s ‘get back on the horse’ time for Celtic tomorrow when they face Inverness at Celtic Park.  The Highlanders will arrive with a different type of momentum about them from the home team.  On their last outing Celtic conceded a league goal and lost a league game for the first time since before Jock Stein’s arrival in 1965*.  They are now out of all three cup competitions and have an unassailable 19 point lead in the league.  Talk in some places has already turned to giving the younger players an outing.

By contrast it’s all kicking off for Inverness, who humbled Hearts to reach the first Celtic Park final of the season, just two weeks away.  The excitement in Inverness is palpable.  Betting odds are seldom generous on Celtic at home but with all the sub-currents surrounding this one I’d prefer not to predict an outcome.

What we need to do is match the energy of Inverness and ensure our passing and movement remains crisp.

If you are tempted into a bet, don’t look past Kris Commons to get things moving.  He is our go-to guy when we’re looking for an ignition button.  Kris has been phenomenal in front of goal this season but he has failed to score in four outings.  The last time this happened was 51 weeks ago.  My bet is that he can’t wait to get on the field and put things right.

The outstanding Celtic Graves Society are breathing life into the memory of Peter Dowds, who played for Celtic from 1889.  Writing in 1936, Willie Maley wrote about Peter, “He did not find the ball.  Nothing so common.  It found him.”

A short ceremony will take place at Peter’s grave, at Abbey Cemetery, Elderslie, at 11:30 tomorrow.  If you live in the area or can make it along, please do so.  You will hear from Jim Craig and others, and get infused with our early history in a way you’ll never do sitting at a screen. Details here.

There is a little over two weeks to go before the CQteN St Patrick’s Night Dinner on Friday, 14 March, at the Kerrydale Suite, Celtic Park. The beneficiary of the night will be Kholoni Primary School, Malawi, where we will fund Mary’s Meals to build a kitchen for 1200 kids who currently don’t have meal facilities.

We have received some incredible assistance already, but you can get involved by ordering a personalised beanie hat, with your name on one side and CQN on the other.

Hats cost £15 each and if you order before 7 March you can collect yours at the CQteN Dinner. If you’re not attending the dinner (and why not?) the £15 will cover postage and packaging. If you ordered a Virtual Ticket, you’re personalised hat is part of your package. All profits go to the school kitchen.

Take a look at the front and back of the hats. To order, email hatfrompat@celticquicknews.co.uk with name, whether you are attending CQteN and address if not, and I’ll get your message to Pat.

Some of the Celtic support on Sunday were an absolute disgrace. The “Cheer up Walter Smith” song is sectarian in the extreme and I am sick of hearing these scumbags besmirching the good name of the club I love. I really don’t want to read any more smug comments on CQN about how the Rangers fans are steeped in bigotry and sectarianism. Of course they are, but as long as a section of our away support continues to poison the air with this sectarian filth, we have nothing to pull them up for.

Also, the constant “every-five-minutes” chant of “Warren Feeney – You’re a W—-R” just got very childish and boring after the tenth rendition. The same happened at ICT recently with Terry Butcher. If you want to get that message across, then once is enough. Not twenty times during the game.

I live in Australia and will be coming home for a holiday in May for a few weeks and plan to take in a couple of home games in the run-in to 4-in-a-row. I will not be going to any away games though, because I refuse to sit amongst that shower of brain-dead neanderthals who have the cheek to call themselves Celtic fans. And please note – I am talking about those who partake in these nefarious chants and songs, not all away fans. Also, I do not have a problem with The Soldier’s Song and BOTOB etc as these are in no way sectarian. But calling someone an “Orange B” in a loud, concerted chant is disgusting and cannot be condoned. It has to stop. Maybe a hefty fine for Celtic will bring these morons to their senses. Then again, pigs might fly.

Greatest fans in the world? Now there’s a laugh.

The link you posted reminds me of a wedding I was at, in Kirkintilloch, many years ago.

A childhood friend of my wife married a lad from across the divide.

At the reception, there was just the bride’s immediate family and us

I was pressed into going up to sing and, in honour of the brid ‘s family, who were over from Donegal , I launched into a Little Bit of Heaven, complete with the crescendo finale.

Couldn’t understand the muted response to my heartfelt, watery eyed rendition.

  12. e=mc2 skiving at work:

It is your prerogative to get your nose out of joint over the singing of such songs, just as it is the prerogative of those who have suffered at the hands of those sad Orange people to retaliate in song rather than violence or denial of human rights.

I’m going to the St.Mirren game at the end of the month, with my brother and grandson.

Part birthday treat, but mainly as a remembrance to our own father, who gave us the gift and also to pass it on to my grandson, whose first Celtic game it will be.

We are going to the Club lounge, where I know the dress code is, no colours, etc.

Does that extend to when you are actually watching the game?

Not for myself, the last time I wore Hoops was in1958, St.Augustine ‘s U14s

Would my grandson be evicted from the seats if he wore his?

    Any replies great fully appreciated.
