Nadir, farting at Shirebrook, fantasists in control

194

I like the idea of competitive training.  If you’re not receiving a hard challenge at training you’re not going to be sufficiently prepared for it in competitive action.  It’s also fair to acknowledge that Nadir Ciftci’s retaliation on Emilio Izaguirre had the unfortunate coincidence of happening on a press conference day, with the bloody aftermath photographed.  I’ve no doubt that such instances happen more often away from the press pack.  By that doesn’t make any of it right.

Lose your cool at training and you’re more likely to lose your cool on the pitch, so as well as legal, health and safety, and appropriate workplace behaviour concerns, I don’t even think it’s right from a football perspective.  I’d drop and fine both players.

Both Emilio and Nadir are under pressure right now, as is the team in general.  We need to use that pressure constructively, starting at Tynecastle tonight, where indiscipline is likely to be costly.

“Sports Direct continues to litigate with the Club in an attempt to enforce its wishes and demands”, Dave King, 27 Oct. 2015.  Hmmm.  “Continues to litigate” suggests recent action.  I wonder where this is heading, and how quickly?  The subsequent bluster from King about Defending Ol’ Newco’s Walls and sending strongly worded letters from Rangers Retail Limited is Pythonesque.  He may as well have proclaimed he’s farted in the general direction of Shirebrook.

Four months ago King told a receptive media: “On a scale of one to 100, [Ashley] doesn’t get up to one in terms of a threat.”  You and I were more skeptical at the time.  On a threat scale of one to 100, I reckon Mike’s at least a 67.

As King prepared to win control of the club in March, when he pondered that Sports Direct had possibly give two £5m loans, he dismissed concerns about owing Mike money by saying: “To me, that’s just noise level, because £10m going forward is well within the numbers of understanding we have to invest.”

It’s “just noise”.  “Well within the numbers we have to invest.”  Again, we were skeptical at the time.  I wonder how this one will turn out.

Three months ago all fears were allayed when King proclaimed: “I regarded that meeting as being a good meeting with Sports Direct.

“One of my suggestions was we should look at a restructuring of the relationship and I indicated I would make proposals. They were willing at least to listen to me. They have not given a commitment one way or another, but they did say ‘Dave, you are an important customer of ours. We would like to make the relationship work, please come to us with your proposals.’

As far as good meetings go, that sounds like a pretty bad one.  There’s not a sales manager in the country didn’t read that synopsis of King’s meeting and reflect on the rep who had a great pipeline but was clearly unable to differentiate between what he wants to happen, and what’s going to happen.  Fantasy and reality.  There’s no harm in a bit of fantasy, it’s a part of the human condition, but someone has to ensure that fantasists don’t grab the controls.

Dave, you’re an important inspiration of ours*.

Particularly interesting paragraph at the the end of said article :

Mr Dinnie added: “He calls Rangers a ‘new club’, but ignores the fact that judicial ruling and Scottish football authority statements have confirmed that Rangers remains the same club founded in 1872.”

Over to you Auldheid et al …

  9. It’s not often I feel the need to reply to one or your articles Paul, but ‘drop and fine both players’? Reminds me of the ‘one is as bad as the other’ argument…..

Have to say I disagree completely, unless there is something about the tackle by Izzy that I am unaware of. While I am sure ‘these things happen all the time’, I am 100% sure there are more bad tackles at training than there are kicks in the head. And there must be a better way of dealing with such incidents.

Ok, so assuming the tackle from Izzy was even over the top, he should be delt with in the same way that any player doing this, at any point in any training session should be delt with. I don’t see why he should get extra punishment because another player lost his cool.

Seems to me that we would be fining and dropping Izzy for being kicked in the head, and being unfortunate enough to have it caught by a photographer, not sure what kind of message that would send to Izzy or the other players?

Personally I wouldn’t drop either player, if the manager thinks he needs them in the game, then he should play them. I would of course punish Izzy in line with what usually happens if a player commits a bad foul at training, and Ciftci should be punished also, according to what rules the club has for this, if it doesn’t have any, it should make them.

  13. The only way we will loss this game tonight is by honest mistakes by you know who.

In fact I’d even go as far as saying, the only games we will loss all season in Scotland this season, will be honest mistakes, like 95% of them have been in the last ten years anyway.

Not one team in Scotland should live with us, and I firmly believe that.

been claimed that Level 5 PR are the first victims of the cash crisis at Ibrox.

The recently formed PR agency, fronted by former BBC Scotland anchorman James Traynor, has been behind the string of feel good stories since Dave King launched his bid for power at the turn of the year.

Little detail or questioning has been given about the plans of the South African businessman who was described in court as a glib and shameless liar by a judge.

Thanks to a succession of feel good stories with little substance Mr King swept to power in March with the SFA approving him as fit and proper despite a string of convictions for fraud and being a director of Rangers as they went into administration.

Level 5 stage managed the all-important drive for season tickets using the ‘Generations’ theme even though the man from Castlemilk had previously stated that his father didn’t approve of him going to matches at Ibrox.

In a tear jerking letter to the gullible fans Mr King pleased: “It is in remembrance of past generations and my hope for future generations that I write to you today. I am immensely proud to be Chairman of this wonderful Scottish institution and I am mindful of the delicate situation the Club is in at this critical juncture in its history. It is absolutely vital that the board and fans join together to restore Rangers to its natural and more recognisable position – both in Scotland and internationally.

“Like all of you who read this letter, I have always taken pride in being a Rangers supporter. It is something I inherited from my father who, in turn, inherited the legacy from my grandfather. This is what Rangers fans do. We pass on our pride and belief in Rangers to our children. That is why Rangers truly is a Club for generations.”

A number of credible sources have claimed that Level 5 have been ditched bringing to an end tear jerking nonsense like the comments above.

On their twitter account Level 5 haven’t mentioned the club from Ibrox since October 16 when they were trying to flog bricks for Christmas.

With tomorrow’s payroll likely to clean out what’s left of the 33,000 season tickets sold in the summer the coming weeks are likely to be very dramatic.

Blaming Mike Ashley for everything may go down well with the majority of supporters but having a friendly PR company to deflect attention from the cash crisis would seem to be money well spent.

  19. A man with a glass eye and a cork one would have seen through what Ashley,s game plan was . Imagine that mob with a billionaire backer . Not what we wanted to see . But as I stated months back , what good is having Sevco retail rights if no business to be done there . With Sevco in contention for trophies and no doubt with the help that’s at there disposal , CL money will be a goer . Big crowds ,plenty jersey sales . But worse , if they are in the CL , WE Aren’t . Brought on by ourselves too BTW .

Tonight’s match is as fraught as any we’ll face this season. The idea that we’ll win provided there are no honest mistakes rather overlooks the fact that we often don’t score any goals in a game, and equally often lose them.

We had 65% possession against Molde, completed 92% of 650 passes, and did the sum total of sod all with any of it.

Molde with just 35% of the ball and fewer than 200 passes got 3 goals for their effort. Four if you count the exquisite pass from the Molde full back to Commons for our only goal.

Not an honest mistake in sight. Or a Celtic defence for that matter.

    Play to win.

    To Aberdeen.

So tonight’s encounter will be a close tense affair.

I won’t come as a surprise that I still expect Celtic to win comfortably by a couple of goals.

Brown will be in his element tonight, attracting the admiration and support of the bulk of Hearts’ appreciative support.

And of course Leigh will revel in the atmosphere.

From where they’re standing, it can’t be done – UCL qualification – with less than £60M, and that’s reliant on calling 8 heads in succession in the coin toss. And ignores the absurd negative return on the investment.

Ashley could put up the dough, but he’s not interested in the football business. He wants the Retail business, he’s just about got it, and all he requires is any fool, said fool keen to pay Mike the licencing fee for operating the Rangers FC franchise.
