UNITED STATES star Darlington Nagbe’s £3million move to Celtic has moved a step closer after Portland Timbers signed a replacement for the midfielder.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers wants to wrap up a move for the 26-year-old USA star early in the transfer window which opens next week.

Portland know they are losing Nagbe and have brought in Costa Rica ace David Guzman.

Timbers president Gavin Wilkinson said: “David is an experienced player we have tracked for some time and one who fits the positional profile we targeted this offseason.

“He has experienced what it is like to play in Portland and is very excited about this opportunity to join the Timbers.

“We are pleased to welcome him to the club and his new city.”

Celtic are planning to take Nagbe to Dubai for their winter training camp in Dubai.
