Nagging doubt for Celtic

154

Remarkably, that’s three consecutive draws for Celtic across three competitions, as many as we recorded in our previous 24 games this season.  Unlike the 0-0 in Zagreb and the 3-3 at Hampden, the reason for the 0-0 at Dundee United was neither stifled midfielders nor defensive mistakes, it was profligate attacking play.

Kyogo had two great chances: he missed the ball with the first, then bizarrely allowed the ball to run across both feet without actually shooting with the second.  Adam Idah also had a fresh air shot, before he appeared to misjudge a pass from Kyogo when he was clear inside the box.

Surely every Celtic fan watching at some point in the game shouted, “Just hit the target” to either Reo Hatate or Luke McCowan.  Both came close but several attempts went wide.

Pregame, our concerns were for the defence, without Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Alistair Johnston.  As it turned out, Stephen Welsh, Liam Scales and Anthony Ralston dominated their opposite numbers all game.  The absence of Nicolas Kuhn and James Forrest was felt more, as Yang, and then Luis Palma failed to make an impact.

Brendan Rodgers is entitled to enjoy the results his side have earned this season, but performances dipped enormously between the wins over Leipzig and at Kilmarnock, which leaves a nagging doubt.

Celtic have a very simple choice this January, spend 20 million + on some right good quality players, tool up for the title and get prepared for champions league tilt now and next season or spend 20 million + on corporation taxes. Celtic have paid more taxes on income than the whole of the spfl each and every year for 5 years, I think it’s time to invest in the product, just like every other business.

Leftback, left winger, central attacking midfielder and forward should do it.

this time last year people were writing off Kuhn,

i have no nagging doubts about anything , strategically or with the coaching staff.

maybe a tad annoyed we allowed ra rangers to score a 3rd goal.

this millenial has been the best of my supporting life.

we will progress in europe, and inho set some other records in the league.

i see one of those analytic companies have rated celtic as the best performing transfers to trophys data versus how much spent.

and then celtic exchange wondering if ajax, benfica and brugge are now copying the celtic plc model.

    in brendan i trust.

I find it strange that many seem to think we are in trouble because our opponents have now figured out our style. Knowing how an opponent plays is not the same as learning how to beat that opponent

    ……

I don’t think opponents have figured out how to beat the system. We have not been working the system well. We have been playing a little slower than normal and have started to play the ball across the backline more frequently. Likely not helped by the shite weather and the number of games we need to play.

We need our inside forwards to get the ball quicker and we need out fullbacks to offer width to them. A fullback bringing the ball out from the back and hitting the byline in this system is key.

A solid Leftback who can overlap and underlap will adds a new dimension to this team.

Likely need a left winger who can get beyond his man when low block is used against us and an attacking midfielder to unlock tight teams.

January window is a good time to go get those players in because it will improve our team not because we have been figured out. Building from a position of strength is something out custodian should be aiming for.

KYOGO and MAEDA off form you say?

    The cure is clear:

For Kyogo, have the winger go outside, hit the byline, ping the ball low across the box.

For Maeda, get the ball to him (or beyond him) let him use his speed.

    Not that hard.

Instead, we are having our wingers come inside sucking out all of the space in the box….and slowly advancing towards Maeda, and passing to him when he has no space to run into.

There are often outside forces that cause good players to ‘lose form’.

    Cheers,

  13. You can only play against blanket defences so many time till everything works for them on the day.So many things have to happen.Normally, its keeper is fantastic, most defenders have game of the season, hit the woodwork, miss a few sitters. Not the first time its happened to us,nor the last.We had a host of key players out,50 MPH gales, faced 11 men in and around their area for 80% of the game missed a couple of chances.Sometimes that’s just what happens.

I dont understand the panic.I really don’t.2 draws and a defeat to Dortmund,Is not panic inducing.Well,it shouldn’t be.

Think my point is whenever a company needs to improve it’s product i.e., machinery, tool of the trade, training etc the investment is made because failure to invest cost the company in the longer run.

Your right we don’t need more rich footballers but the reality is those footballers are the engine room of our success or failure as a team and a business. I see there is a need to invest in that, it’s not a moral question.

I did point out i expect Celtic have paid lots more tax than the the whole of the spfl teams put together over the last 5 years. I am not suggesting we avoid paying tax, I am suggesting we don’t make profit when it’s clear that we need to improve, upgrade our business.

Thing is, if celtic spend now, then it’s likely the profit will be greater further down the line so that is more money into social tax.

Ps i wish i got to tell the government to spend my tax contribution morally, no more hand outs for rich pals, tax breaks for big business or bombs to kill kids from my contribution. If only I got to decide, we would be paying for more social care workers.

    no.

i am saying the plc should pay its taxes, on profits.

and brendan and the staff all pay their taxes on earnings.

and that brendan has just had a strategy meeting with the executive and maybe identified some targets, i would suggest though incoming will very much depend on outgoing first .

We’re the best run club in the UK if not wider .

Stephbhoy67 is correct in that we pay our taxes and we make profits to take the club forward be it stadium , repairs , facilities and players , charity……
