Remarkably, that’s three consecutive draws for Celtic across three competitions, as many as we recorded in our previous 24 games this season. Unlike the 0-0 in Zagreb and the 3-3 at Hampden, the reason for the 0-0 at Dundee United was neither stifled midfielders nor defensive mistakes, it was profligate attacking play.
Kyogo had two great chances: he missed the ball with the first, then bizarrely allowed the ball to run across both feet without actually shooting with the second. Adam Idah also had a fresh air shot, before he appeared to misjudge a pass from Kyogo when he was clear inside the box.
Surely every Celtic fan watching at some point in the game shouted, “Just hit the target” to either Reo Hatate or Luke McCowan. Both came close but several attempts went wide.
Pregame, our concerns were for the defence, without Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Alistair Johnston. As it turned out, Stephen Welsh, Liam Scales and Anthony Ralston dominated their opposite numbers all game. The absence of Nicolas Kuhn and James Forrest was felt more, as Yang, and then Luis Palma failed to make an impact.
Brendan Rodgers is entitled to enjoy the results his side have earned this season, but performances dipped enormously between the wins over Leipzig and at Kilmarnock, which leaves a nagging doubt.

*SENTINEL CELTS/CQN PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2024-25*
*RESULTS FROM GAME #26 DUNDEE UNITED 0 CELTIC 0*
Good evening, friends.
Note – please see details at the end for a longer than usual voting window after our next game…
A pretty underwhelming performance yesterday in pretty blustery conditions saw Celtic fail to score for the first time, domestically, this season.
We completely dominated the first half in probably the most one sided away game of 2024 but frustratingly we failed to create any real, clear chances. The second half saw Dundee United come into it a little bit more but without really troubling Kasper Schmeichel. As he does in almost every game, Brendan made a couple of substitutions on the hour mark and for a wee while Palma and Idah looked to have given us a bit more urgency. But despite the further introductions of Bernardo and Engels the game eventually petered out to a nil nil draw.
We have now played 26 games this season, winning 19, drawing 6 and losing just the 1. We have scored 71 and conceded 20 (domestically it’s 61-10 and in Europe it’s 10-10).
Thanks as always to the 57 who voted this time around. The total votes cast for each player are as follows, with my own nominations asterisked. Poor old Yang was the only player not to register a vote.
Schmeichel: 12
Ralston: 6
Welsh: 23
Scales: 40
Taylor: 38
McGregor*: 8
McCowan: 16
Hatate: 9
Yang: 0
Kyogo: 1
Maeda: 1
Palma*: 1
Idah*: 9
Bernardo: 2
Engels: 2
Naebdy-Else: 3
And so, the players receiving POINTS for the game against Dundee United are –
Scales – 5 points
Taylor – 4 points
Welsh – 3 points
McCowan – 2 points
Schmeichel – 1 point
And the overall positions after 26 games played are –
43 points – Kuhn
36 points – Scales
35 points – Bernardo, Hatate
34 points – Maeda
32 points – Schmeichel
30 points – McGregor
22 points – Trusty
21 points – Johnston A
18 points – Engels
17 points – Carter-Vickers
16 points – McCowan
14 points – Valle
11 points – Kyogo and Taylor
7 points – O’Riley
5 points – Idah
4 points – Forrest
3 points – Welsh
1 point – Yang
0 points – Holm, Johnston M., Nawrocki, Palma, Ralston, Turley
Our next game is a 3.00pm home league game against Motherwell on St Stephen’s Day. As me and Mrs Baldie are off to a wedding the next day (and staying overnight, woo hoo!) then the voting window will stay open until 2.00pm on Saturday 28th December with the results posted later that afternoon.
Hail Hail!
With thanks to Jobo

Apols if I missed something …any hints .
Marspapa- a couple of suggestions about joint criticism of the manager
Cheers Bada 👍
Would it be to strong a comment to say there would be poster/s happy to see Brendan fail .
Marspspa- no
!!BADA BING!!
If so that truly is sad . Brendan won’t get everything right but as long as we criticise constructively and hope for the same thing we can only get stronger .
For me Ange and Brendan are set in their ways and will end up being their downfall if they’re not willing to change formation when needed
Brendan is reluctant to go long . If we can’t get through the lines put diagonals over the top or long through the middle….
We’re lucky to have the depth in quality to get us over the line but like yesterday we’ll come unstuck from time to time.
Poor stuff for a few weeks by our high standards hopefully Motherwell will see us regain energy and confidence and a few goals . .
Marspapa- I think squad rotation was necessary but has had an effect on fluency of the team and IMO the CL games have been draining on the Bhoys, a few additions and departures next month would help us,a couple of guys need rested before Ibrox, Maeda and Kyogo…
belmont brian/ mod
apols – dont know what happened there but the pinned video showing a decorated us army/security person protesting at some hearing about israels bombing/burning of babies in palestine seems to have disappeared – check the rest of the site and its contents – for a flavour of what was intended….
id also add that the offending video was nowhere to be seen earlier today

I think some of the worry about how Celtic are playing at the moment is that some of us think “things are going well… that can’t last… something is bound to go wrong”. In all my time on this blog I would guess the biggest complaint is that “Celtic never build from a position of strength “.
Most of the posts are concerned with a dip in form, some posters think it’s a mud winter dip and some worried in case it’s more serious. I think we are in the best position of my Celtic supporting life………but…. I have that nagging concern that things are going too well… This is not a criticism of the players, manager or our business model… it’s just years of being disappointed when everything seemed to go well, then didn’t. Probably Catholic guilt.

Thats it – cheers

Good morning all from leafy Giffnock. Orchard Park this evening for a few beers and fun times.
Deila considering £10m move for Kyogo, McGowan reports in the Daily Mail
As someone who was against the return of the manager I cannot believe any Celtic supporter would want him to fail.
I am 100% behind him and the team. I have absolutely no idea why any supporters feel the need to panic when we drop two points with a depleted team and in terrible footballing conditions.
9 points ahead, league cup in the bag and Europe doing well. Panic???????

An honest, and understandable reflection on how things are going Celtic-wise.
We all have our own take based on experiences over the years. Sometimes we think, as you say, things are going too well and can’t last; however good times have been rolling ,almost continuously, for twenty-five years and there is no indication of an abrupt halt.
Yes you’re right, we must build from this strong position and the proof in the pudding will emerge over the next two transfer windows.
Catholic guilt can be a burden, but is also a good reality check – keeps us grounded and respectful. HH

A £10 million MLS offer would represent a win for Celtic and Kyogo.

Selling anyone is a risk whoever came in would need to hit the ground running, the wee man is out of form and so frustrating for him and us, the language barrier is another issue as trying to support him through a translator is difficult as well. Not sure I would take the money but we shall see.

An inferiority complex, fed by Establishment Scotland, takes a long time to go away.
Some comedown for Kyogo, one minute it’s Pep ‘the next it’s Rony.
Good Christmas Eve morning fellow CQNers. I’m afraid this is a shameless plug, but I thought it would give the Glasgow based members the opportunity for some light entertainment during the Celtic void of the international week in March.
On Saturday 22nd March why not treat yourself to a rare Saturday 3pm kick off for a bit of light-hearted comedy at The Griffin?
As part of the Glasgow Comedy Festival, Jeannie Jones is doing her show “Aphrodisiac” (which featured at the Edinburgh Fringe) at The Griffin on the 22nd March at 3pm. Tickets can be had for as little as £6.60, though it’s a “pay as you feel” affair with other price points available.
The write up is as follows:
“Aphrodisiac is a show about sexual problems in relationships from Scottish comedian and GP, Jeannie Jones.
If chance would be a fine thing!
If the fire has gone out!
If the answer is I’m not in the mood!
or if you want to future proof your sex life then this is the show for you.
Dr Jeannie tackles the sticky subject of sex with wit and wisdom.
You will definitely laugh but you will also learn something which might relight a fire in the bedroom!”

(For the record, Jeannie is my sister in law.)
My friends in Celtic,
I dont believe for a nano second that any Celtic supporter wsnts BR to fail.
We are aware that we have the best. On and off the park.
However we have set our own standards this season and it is only telling the truth to state we have not met those standards in recent games.
No malice, no vindictiveness, no stirring. Only stating a fact which we all want to resolve.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to be the best we can be.

That is an absolutely brilliant point!
I still get worried when we play them, when they sign players, when it looks as though they’re getting it together over there (no laughing at the back 😂), for the exact reason you’ve mentioned.
Grew up through their domination and it kind of sticks with you. Reading about how amazing they were in every paper, splashing cash left, right and centre, floating pitches etc and we were a mess.
Even now that we are the dominant force with resources they could only dream of (or realise if they had Minty’s bank buddies back onside), I still get worried when things not going 100% right for us.
As I’m sure a lot of other Tim’s do.
Very well put. 👍
5-0 us on Boxing Day btw. Reckon we’ll have our zip back.
Have no interest in seeing Kyogo, or, any other regular starters, or, top-benchers, going anywhere. In an environment where the dense low-block isn’t de rigueur, e.g. USA, he would be a riot once again; as would Hatate & Maeda.
Let’s get the left-back spot sorted – perhaps another wide-forward and shift 3/4 in January – not insurmountable I’m sure. HH
