POLISH centre-back Maik Nawrocki is poised to become Celtic’s latest signing within the next 48 hours.
The 22-year-old Legia Warsaw defender, who will cost a total of £5.2million, is said to be in Glasgow for a medical before signing a five-year deal with the champions, as reported in local media Super Express Sport.
There was no sign of Nawrocki as his club kicked off their new league season last night, as predicted by CQN early yesterday.
The towering German-born former Werder Bremen prospect missed Legia’s 3-0 win over LKS Lodz in the Polish capital.
GREEN FOR GO…Celtic target Maik Nawrocki aims to be a roaring success at the champions.
His boss Kosta Runjaic admitted: “You can expect Maik Nawrocki to leave our club soon. The information has already leaked out, there is a serious offer on the table, but for now these are internal consultations.”
Brendan Rodgers is remaining tightlipped about the imminent deal, but concedes he needs to strengthen the middle of his rearguard where Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt were Ange Postecoglou’s first picks last season.
Nawrocki will become the fifth signing since the Irishman’s return to Parkhead, following Norwegian midfielder Odin Thiago Holm and Australian international winger Marco Tilio.
South Korean double-act Yang Hyun-jun and Kwon Hyeok-kyu have agreed five-year contracts, but the club has to deal with red tape before the moves are ratified.
They could be unveiled along with Nawrocki at the start of next week once the champions arrive back from their two-game tour of Japan.
