Need to find edge to match United

935

Dundee United and Celtic will both have their minds on longer term outcomes than tomorrow’s Premiership game at Tannadice.  For Neil Lennon, it will surely be another opportunity to expose some of his development players to the rigors of first team action.  For Jackie McNamara this is a test before arguably their biggest game of the season, next week’s Scottish Cup semi-final.

United are six points off the pace in the neck-and-neck battle between Aberdeen and Motherwell in re Best of the Rest race but face both these teams at home before the end of the season.  United’s potentially bigger challenge are the home and away games against the champions.  Only the top three are guaranteed European football, so the potential of European revenue, added to the prize more differential (circa £100k per place) will sharpen minds.

For Celtic, the challenge will be to find the edge their opponents will have for tomorrow.  I’d look to Liam Henderson, and maybe a couple of his former development squad team mates for this.

We’re well accustomed the nationalist and xenophobic excesses of the UK media but Germany appears shocked at the two biggest selling UK dailies use of the word “schwein” to describe Bastian Schweinsteiger.  Anyone who grew up during the decades when war movies dominated our TVs will know the racial context loaded onto this particular term, as it was used in Germany in the 30s and 40s.

Bayern’s ban on the Mirror and Sun is an appropriate rebuff, safe in the knowledge that no Bayern fans will continue to consume news about their club from either newspaper.

I got that book Christmas 69 and its still in the cupboard. Great inspirational read for me at the time.

  3. Good afternoon friends.

Since 18 January I’ve been placing a single £5.00 bet each time play on Celtic at minus 1 goal. Currently £13.40 to the good. Tomorrow is only the 2nd time that the odds have been better than evens. But think we’ll learn from last week and get back to our high performing winning ways.

  4. Watching the video posted on the last thread of young McMullen tearing sevco a new one was very impressive.

What was even more noticeable was the huns reverting to type and kicking everything but the actual football.

The ref showed incredible leniency to their agricultural approach.

I think the hun Hegarty that got sent off has played for their first team.

    He was completely hopeless.

As Pfayr stated earlier any defender who plays for the huns looks better because of the novel application of rules applied to them.

They can play through the back of opponent, any contact that they don’t come away with the ball is deemed a foul by the opponent, all 50/50’s are given to the huns and opponents are alway offside if they have the temerity to get behind huns defense,

If we were to sign a 34/35 year-old in the summer I would rather it be Xavi, Pirlo or Naka.

I am looking at the Quality Street Gang photo linked by bognorbhoy at 13.31.

Can you confirm that it is Tommy Livingstone on Danny McGrain’s immediate right hand side in the front row and is that Tony McBride 2 spaces further to the right in the front row centre?

  19. LiviBhoy – God bless wee Oscar

Enjoyed your post about football cliches on the previous thread.

I would take issue, though, with “he ‘s hit it too well”.

If a player has a half second to shoot from 25 yards with the ball bouncing before him and a defender rapidly approaching, all he really can do is aim roughly for the goal.

Sometimes, he gets the strike that he intended to with the consequence of the ball aiming directly to the centre of the goal into the keeper’s midriff.

A minor miskew, however, could result in in it finding one of the corners.
