Neil and players deserve our trust

220

Celtic notched up their 13th straight win in domestic competition against St Mirren yesterday.  That period included two wins against Lazio and a meaningless defeat to Cluj in the Europa League.  After losing to Livingston on 6 October, we were two points off the pace at the top of the table.  Now we are two points clear and have the League Cup back for the fourth season in succession.

Celtic have played two games every week since July apart from international breaks, when most Celtic players are in action for their nations.  Their return in this period has been nothing short of exceptional.  Were it not for a rush of blood to the head by Ryan Christie in Livingston and some penalty blindness at Easter Road, the question right now would be “Can anyone take a point off Celtic this season?”

Work still needs to be done to ensure we enter the winter break top of the table, but this is a script Neil Lennon and his players know well.  They deserve our trust.

Couple of random thoughts ahead of Sunday’s three pointer…

Frimpers needs to appreciate that most goals are scored at the back post from the six yard line. When the opposition are attacking on the opposite side of the park, it’s coming to a back post near you, wee man.

Sevco will probably play a narrow 5 in midfield again given it worked so effectively at Hampden earlier this month. Lenny needs more men in the middle of the park or we won’t see much of the ball.

Their attacking width comes from the full backs, with Tavernier setting up 10 (ten) chances last time out. Whoever is played wide left esp needs to make sure the ball doesn’t come in.

Their defending is average, and because of the way they set up, counter attack can kill them – if we take the chances.

Doubtless more such drivel in due course.

  2. I caught a bit of an earlier interview with SG when he compared Celtic/Sevco to Liverpool/Everton by dint of “bitterness and hatred”. I think those from ,eg, the trade promotion organisation “Invest Liverpool” will be furious at his comparison.

Must admit I never considered bitterness and hatred to be a feature of Liverpool life and I have spent a bit of time in the North-West. Maybe he is becoming indoctrinated in Sevco hatred like the odious Novo. I doubt it but some slack words nonetheless being banded about reflecting badly on his home city.

Perfect summation of the way the Huns play.I have been saying we have to match them up in the middle for a while now, although I don’t think Lenny’s changes to the midfield have been a success. He will have to get right on Sunday.Or maybe the players have to up THEIR performances.

Left-back…will johny hayes be fit? Taylor seems to be back-up only. Bolingoli!! If he plays I hope he has a stormer…

    Play it smart Celtic.

Our experience of winning big matches allied to their experience of losing them gives us an edge.

    As do the statistics.

We have a 95% win rate at home this season

Their win rate away from Ibrokes for the same period?

    60%

    Hail hail

  6. Clyde phone in been on for 45 mins and mentioned the Betfred Cup final about 60 times and how Sevco dominated it 😂😂😂😂 thought we won it😂😂😂 arseholes.

Also Eddies goal was on side all day Long yesterday.

Sevco’s unseen helping hand continues, goal defo offside.

Roll on Sunday, different club same shite that follows them, let’s get in about them Celtic.

  7. My big worry ahead of 1st Jan is, how many of our top players will be seduced by the English big buck!! Hopefully, none but I am a tad concerned, must say.

With regards Sunday, as usual they will come out the blocks at 100mph, run out of puff after 20 mins and we will dominate, nae bother, for it is written in the stars.

  8. THE BATTERED BUNNET

Neil has practiced with Ntcham as the extra middy, since we were ‘molicated ‘ at Hampden.

Miss the midfield? – let them dominate

Just score and score again CSC

  9. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Interesting observation Mazzy.

No one walks into that place and walks out a better human being.

Transfer requirements are linked to Huns game at Hampden. We suffered because we had no centre forward Out number one priority is a Centre Forward Not a project but a top scorer that can go straight in someone as good if not better than Eddy We must think beyond what we have Anything else in any other position can be a project as we are good enough – assuming we do not sell. A top class striker please Peter

  11. I will go along to celtic park on sunday expecting and hoping celtic win. We have better players than any other team in the league.

We got out played in the cup final and all of a sudden lots of people are worried, ok but for me a third of that team was made up of left wingers, we had no striker for most of the game and we played the game with 10 men for 40 minutes. The weather was chronic and suited the battling team, sunday not so much.

The high press is only useful when teams try to play out of the back with slow short passes and don’t have the numbers at the other end of the pitch to expose the other team. my team and tactic for sunday would be:

    ……………………………Foster…………………………..

    Jeramie…….. jullien…………ajer………………boli

    ……………………………brown………………………………..

    ……………ntcham………………….McGregor…………..

    ……………………………………………Christie……………..

    ……………….forrest ………………………………………….

    ……………………………….eduard…………………………..

Play off eduard, use the willing runners off him in forrest and christie, runners going from inside to outside (immediately filling the space left by whichever opponent fullbacks goes forward and coming more central to squeeze opponents.

Keep 3 midfielders in the centre of the pitch to tackle and pass into the space left by fullback going forward or eduard.

I like the idea of Jack and co struggling to turn out without a man being in their face and any push forward leaving huge gaps with every pass and every turn a must complete. Simply put if the press the game we streach the game. But I am no the boss and lots of folk would prefer we used the width of the pitch etc.

  12. I read earlier someone hoping Hearts are relegated.

    I disagree.

Yes I know their fans are obnoxious, their chair lady presumptuous and their football tactics agricultural.

However, we do need the biggest clubs with the best facilities and biggest fan base all playing in the SPFL.

We need more teams to be challenging ourselves and the irredeemables down river.

There is no chance that the likes of Ross County, St Johnstone, Livingston or Hamilton will ever have the fan base to attract and retain talent to enable them to mount and effective title challenge.

Given our population and it’s geographical dispersions, I think we should be having a discussion about a franchise type participation in the SPFL.

We already have too many sides chasing too little money, and frankly I believe it is holding us, Celtic, back.

  13. Stephbhoy67 7.37pm

The Huns defence are petrified of Edouard (as are most of the teams we face domestically) am pretty sure Celtic won’t play like that against them the rest of this season …

Am pretty delighted the Sevs are confident because of the league cup final

  14. GG 7.51pm

I think David66 posted that earlier, think it was more about their followers, I want one of the plastic pitches relegated, Tynecastle is actually a great stadium for us and think our players also enjoy it :-)

  15. GG

Promotion and relegation should be earned on merit – I’m sure you’re not advocating teams are too big to fail (or die) 😉

  16. Guilty as charged bhoys and I stand by it, an absolute horrible club.

    Get them relegated post haste.

    D. :)

  17. I would play Hayes in front of Boli on Sunday, if he was fit Hatem behind Forrest, we need to close down the threat from diagonals at source, do this they will resort to hoof ball and we can pick them off, I am concerned about the passing of Ntcham so lacksadasical at times out side of the foot instead of the simple pass to feet, we cannot invite pressure, especially with our lack of tackling in the centre of midfield, it has to go the other way and we can win comfortably, if we are ahead they will attempt to injure our players and get involved to get our players sent off.

Please NL you played in the midfield do not under any circumstances let them dominate in there and push us back.

Kris and Chris need to dominate Morelos from the off and concentrate for the full game, he will get frustrated and hit out, nothing surer.

  18. !!BADA BING!! on 27TH DECEMBER 2019 3:49 PM

We would all want a leaner squad with less dead wood, but I think it’s difficult to achieve, given the amount of games and injuries

    ——————

Can’t agree, our squad has too many players that aren’t capable to replace an injured player or on off form one.

It’s time to be ruthless and let go ones that won’t fill the boots.

Streamline and spend on quality within our budget. HH

Only reason I remembered as I meant to reply saying I’d prefer one of the plastic pitches to go down …

  20. GFTB – not a problem pal.

I hate the plastic pitches also, but I have no time for the bigotry and sectarian bile that Hertz fans have sung for years.

  21. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

Further to our recent stuttering performances , lots of advice about personnel and positions being delivered to Lenny tonight.

Just possible that Lenny has been saving the big guns for Sunday .

    Wouldn`t surprise me.

Big T.R. waits in the wings .

  22. Parkhead – it should not take relegation to get rid of plastic pitches.

It should be a forward thinking, customer focused organisation.

Unfortunately in Scotland after years of promises of reform we are still stuck in the Masonic dark age regarding the running of our game. An Absoloutle disgrace of a cheating organisation.

  23. And when Forrest gets tired bring Jeremie on play him as a right winger he would be more effective there for me.
