Neil Lennon, big and bad enough

463

Neil Lennon is big and bad enough not to need any help from you or me, but he has a job on his hands.  He will prepare a squad to face Hearts twice in the next eight days, which he acquired from Brendan Rodgers in February, and which Brendan largely acquired from Ronny Deila, which is wilting before our eyes.

Injuries abound, the latest, Scott Brown’s broken toe, symptomatic of this season.  Brendan tied himself in all sorts of knots in August, revealing fewer of his intentions to you or me than to Moussa Dembele.  Dedryck Boyata went on strike during the latter, and unsuccessful, stage of our Champions League qualification campaign.  Then Moussa went so off message Brendan decided it was best for him to leave town.

Have you worked in an environment like this?  I have not, but these are just the things we know about.  I doubt it was an easy shift for Brendan to lift the squad as well as he did for the Europa League, League Cup and League campaign.

Then, to cap it all, Brendan turned on his heels a day before we were due to visit Tynecastle and four days before a Scottish Cup visit to Easter Road.  You may have worked in an environment like this, but I doubt you have successfully managed one.

It was demeaning for Neil Lennon to have to defend himself this week.  Not to himself, but to the goldfish who are so unaware of the environment or parameters he has worked in.

Celtic won their first treble the day I was born, but I was 34 before they won their third.  No club has ever won Treble Trebles in a row.  Celtic have never won three consecutive Scottish Cups.  The measure of our current success is so great it is difficult to quantify.

In 1995 we finished fourth in the league, two points behind Hibs and three ahead of Falkirk.  But we went to the Scottish Cup Final that season and won the most magnificent dreary game played.  This is football.  Success is neither easy nor linear and it is never entitled.  Appreciate these times.

Bring lots of change with you on Sunday, this is your one and only chance to buy a Foundation VIII Badge!

Best post on a difficult subject I’ve read in a while and gets right to the heart of the PR campaign against us.

If there WAS a legal case they’d be making it, instead of posturing over a moral one and trying to exort money out of the club like cheap hoods outside a nightclub.

  8. Yes, it’s been a rough night. In no mood for the nonsense merchants on here who want to twist every word I say to get whatever meaning from it suits them.

  9. You know what, for the sanity of everyone else on here – and how sick they must be of reading petty digs by halfwits – I am gonna stay off for the rest of the weekend.

I actually have more important things to concern me at the moment.

The board want this to go away, they appear to have no intention of doing anything to take this forward now, the question is why, but they do not answer why and have plants at the AGM to raise questions on the songbook whenever they are pinned on this, what do the resolutioners and the people who support Res12 do now?

    Two prongs.

Pin down the SFA via legal route that, being legal, takes time.

Pin down the Celtic Board which means November AGM if they dont change their appeasement strategy.

  13. Auldheid massive respect to those carrying the good fight.

I have also felt from day one Lawwell would drag this into long grass. He has a devious streak which created the divide with Rodgers. For whatever reason and I known several opinions have been given he has given no serious help to Res 12.

Contrast his behaviour with what Fergus would have done.

My opinion of watching Lawwells behaviour over the years is that if there is nothing in it for him then he does not become involved and will play the game. He always looks after no 1. I have had guys tell me he showed them letters in his office. That old trick —- seen it done before and the recipient was Minister Liu.

  17. I’m as frustrated / angry as most of us re the board’s lack of desire to tap in what looks like an open goal in relation to Res 12.

But…PL will be heavily conflicted on this. Personally, I’m absolutely sure that he would want to pursue it to the end. Professionally, he must act in the best interests of the shareholders as CE of a PLC.

Therefore, if the shareholders deem that it is better to ignore it then he has no option but to do so.

The rights and wrongs don’t matter so much when it comes to shareholder value and that’s the huge downside of being a PLC.

Fergus is often held up as a beacon in terms of what he would have done in this situation but it’s not like for like as he was not bound by the same parameters PL is bound by.

All evidence points to Celtic losing a UEFA Cl place in 2011 because of false pretence or fraud and SFA possibly being negligent when granting RFC a UEFA licence in 2009 and 2010.

Celtic not prepared to ask UEFA to investigate and instead directing requisitioners to the SFA who then employ their Judicial process that they had already surrendered the authority to do so to CAS to investigate.

Or if you like huns are cheating bassas but Celtic reluctanct to say so or explain why they are not.

The lawyer keeps talking about moral responsibility because celtic football club never had a legal responsibility for celtic bhoys club.

Celtic bhoys club used The good name of celtic and was given an status i.e. player of The year awards at celtic park etc… so of course there would be an interest.

but does that amount to celtic football club being legally responsible for What happened at The bhoys club. Also if you read the article it refers to individuals defending any action against them, themselves not celtic football club defending their self or their employees etc..

The truth is these bastards are everywhere and are skilled in the art of lies etc.. to abuse. They care not a bit about the kids, parents, coaches or the clubs etc.. they involve themselves in. They groom everyone and build trust.

Every last one of them should be brought to justice. What i dont get is Why the police did not investigate something that was Out in The public domain. they, unlike celtic, did have a responsibility to carryout criminal investigations

    …………………………..

While I have sincere sympathy for any Victims of child abuse ANYWHERE, IF its True that those Abusers were NEVER EMPLOYED by Celtic etc, and therefore Celtic do NOT have any Legal responsibility to award any compensation etc, I fail to see how any “Victim” has a Legal Claim against Celtic FC ?

More to the point, IF Celtic adopted a “Moral Stance” soley, and paid out ANY Compensation to any Victim, then what next…. ANY Player who was INJURED Playing for the Boys Club, would also be looking for compensation from Celtic FC…NAH, Didnt think so !

IF those Abusers were NEVER EMPLOYED by Celtic FC, then Celtic can NOT be seen to accept ANY responsibility, “Moral” or otherwise.

i see that Thompsons solicitors of bath St. Glasgow are representing some Victims, and a certain Solicitor called Patrick McGuire who is employed by Thompsons is stamping his feet in annoyance etc…..

I have had MANY dealings with Thompsons over recent years in relation to different Claims, including Mr Patrick McGuire, I have only ever had satisfaction over ONE Claim that Thompsons took up on my behalf. Twice in other separate claims, they FAILED to acknowledge the Clear, Documented Evidence that I had provided them with in relation to Medical History and events etc, and i was forced to withdraw those Claims.

Celtic should tell them to go an take a running jump…

  31. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Gutenberg/Fritzsong,

It’s even simpler the auldheids explanation

Rangers committed fraud and cheated Celtic out of the chane to compete in th CL.

The SFA colluded with rangers in fraud to cheat Celtic

    Celtic share value was affected

Because it was fraud, which is a criminal act, there can be no time bar.

Because it affected the share price, the Plc are responsible to ALL shareholders, including those who signed Res12.

The Plc have been presented with evidence that supports all of the above.

The Plc refuse to request UEFA investigate the evidence as suggested by UEFA.

The Ple are placing themselves as police, defending council, judge and jury. This has had the effect that they decide what is admissible and have completely refused to accept the UEFA CFCB investigation team can and will uncover all the evidence for themselves, this has had the effect the the Plc have delayed any investigation ate every step of the way.

The next resolution will be directed at the Plc for their refusal to protect all the shareholders interests, this will be followed with a request to the police to investigate.

  32. Morning All – Grand Fresh Chilterns Morn…

Interesting leader, I’m not at all sure where it starts or finishes with respect to our season. Certainly the nonsense aimed at Lenny has to stop and we must get right behind the manager. A trophy to pick up and a Cup final to contest – no doubt a swansong for a few…. let’s make it awesome.

    Paul67,

”Have you worked in an environment like this? “

Well it kinda depends what you mean, I’ve certainly worked in toxic environments and I’ve worked in the middle of clusterducks and Ive worked in environments where top guys egos have derailed projects.

It certainly should never arise in an organisation like Celtic either as a Corporate or a Sports Club. Whatever caused it is certainly a fundamental multi tentacled and the issues are deep within the culture at Celtic, a Culture that needs to be culled.

It also points to a real issue in the structure of the organisation and the framework and processes in which employees operate. My guess is the Company Org chart, the roles and responsibilities and Key performance indicators would show up some glaring issues, if you combine that with the toxic environment you’d get a situation not dissimilar to the inner workings at the wholesale Banks before the “sub-prime mortgage crisis”.

Of course these things manifest in many ways, if it wasn’t the subprime thing that got the Banks it would have been some other car crash.

It is interesting how it is manifesting under Lenny’s tenure in the close season and how it manifested itself in the pre season.

To show what I mean, let me highlight where these issues came to a head…

The fact remains, for what ever the reason (and this would be due to the toxic working environment) we had fallout between the head of corporate and the head of football, peaking, as you say in August 2018. We had two bruised egos, huge egos that had, what we now know was irreconcilable differences.

Of course, as we understand it Brendan Rodgers was not a Peter Lawwell recruit, the recruitment process was managed by a third party overseen by Dermot Desmond. Either during the original negotiations or possibly subsequent ones a framework was established for certain roles and responsibilities with regard player recruitment and retention.

This became clear through the ’18 summer transfer debacle that…

…BR was the head of Football at Celtic and he had the final say in which players left the Club.

We also know from a podcast done by PL just before the ’18 summer transfer window opened the process for player procurement.

When it came to buying players, the Manager would highlight positions that needed strengthening. The potential player analysis would be garnered and presented by the lead scout. If the Manager and PL agreed on the suitability, the player would go forward to the procurement stage which was negotiated and completed by PL.

Now what in reality does that mean, well, we know that the Executive did all the negotiations and contracts for both players in and out, that they dealt with buying and selling Clubs and buying and selling agents.

Is it a good framework? Highly debatable but really no problem if all concerned are going to work professionally and as a team but if that doesn’t happen then we have a huge potential disconnect.

As we seem to have had a near total breakdown in trust between the Executive and Football department this disconnect became a chasmic fault line.

Of course players who were already in the squad who were performing well and whose services needed to be retained didn’t seem to present a problem, if players were nearing the end of their contracts or needed to have their contracts boosted to ensure parity with their peers this was agreed between the Executive and Football department and new contracts were offered.

But we have in effect PL, having the final say over players being brought in and BR having what was in effect a veto regarding players leaving.

We got to the ridiculous stage where PL was simply not buying the players the Football Department wanted and BR was vetoing the sale of players the Executive wanted to sell. A ridiculous impasse, which ignited over the McGinn offer, came to a head over the Boyata bid and erupted during the sale of Moussa Dembele.

You would not except this type of behaviour from petulant teenagers and the consequences – the Club was set back years of planning and it cost multiple tens of millions of pounds.

Yet, as I said these situations cannot manifest themselves without fundamental issues and a toxic culture at the heart of an organisation, there should be checks and balances especially in a PLC where shareholders are the “boss”.

Although the PLvBR situation was the worst manifestation we know about, and I stress know about , these faultlines have surfaced before, in terms of Ronny loosing the dressing room and we are seeing it once more in what Lenny is going through.

It will keep happening until the culture is purged and proper, professional corporate and sporting structures are put in place.

    Hail Hail

  33. AULDHEID,

I have the UTMOST Respect for you and all others involved in Res 12, and for obvious reasons I do hope all your efforts do not go to waste ?
