Neil Lennon should plan to remain in the game

438

I was disappointed to hear Neil Lennon was ‘mutually consented’ by Bolton yesterday. He picked the club up off the floor early last season, putting together a remarkable run of form which saw them talked as promotion candidates, but a reply cup defeat to Liverpool saw momentum dip. The year since has seen Bolton look like the relegation fodder they were before Neil’s arrival.

Forget all this nonsense the newspapers are throwing around this morning (anything to undermine the team ahead of Kilmarnock on Saturday), Neil’s ship has sailed in Glasgow, but he should plan to remain in the game.

The people of Bolton might not have seen him at his best, but he’s a genuine managerial talent. After a shaky 18 months at Celtic he turned a corner and became a remarkable success, crafting a team who could compete with anyone in the world.

Looking back now, I think the intensity of the Celtic job got too much for Neil. It’s a 24x7x365 life, you need vast oceans of patience, and need to be prepared to make enormous sacrifices. It’s not just about structuring a defence to subjugate wee Leo and his pals.

The Bolton job was always going to be a tall order. He picked them up in a relegation spot, there was no money to improve things, while each passing month the financial position deteriorated. He also had to find an unusual pre-match technique to address the ‘I know you’re not getting paid but how about giving 110% anyway?’ problem.

The same media who are trying to disrupt our title challenge have misread the mood music this time. If anything, they’ve focussed the support on the task in hand.

On another matter………….. I’m one of the many who have signed up to Zip Slide across Celtic Park on Easter Saturday morning in aid of the Celtic Foundation. This is a great initiative; all those who have signed up have paid event costs, so money raised goes straight to the Foundation’s mission to improve Health, promote Equality, encourage Learning and tackle Poverty.

The work the Foundation do in our name is incredible.  If you can contribute, please do so here.

Thank you.

The term troll that is flung about here is akin to lazy cyber journalism. Differing viewpoints if incorrect should be defeated by argument and debate.

Incidentally I would bet that many who are labeled Trolls actually go to more Celtic games, put more money into Celtic and have done so all their lives.

Actions speak louder than words . Can the posters who shout troll actually demonstrate their ongoing Celtic credentials.i wonder.

    Hail, Hail.

Or he might mirror the Barca season where he only got 79pts with only 24 wins and 7 draws.

So if you put loads of money into Celtic you’re allowed to come here and deliberately wind people up? Is that what you’re saying?

Yea Ronny’s Team seem to Lack that Bottle other Celtic teams have had..and Definatlely fail to Kill off games when going one or two ahead..

Ps..Just realised the Aberdeen comeback l mentioned in the Last Post was 2 Years Ago today and The Players who brought Celtic back from the Dead was the One and Only The Number 9 Enigma Georgious Samaras..Oh to have had Him in Europe this Season or as the New Maldini at the Back when Virgil and Denyaer left us with a Gaping Hole in a Defense where New Players seemed to have met for the first time in the Dressing room before the Game..Good signs in that Department in recent weeks..

spot on the money, agree 100% Long term plan, but I’d be using Christie, Allan a.nd young Patrick a hell of lot more. Don’t rate Armstrong at all and feel Mackay-Steven is a bit too lightweight, but talented nonetheless.

If Lenny was still in charge at Celtic

This league would be won by now

That would require 90 points from 29 games. Or 3.1 points per game.

    Errrrrrr………

Even if we were to match NLs best season, with only 6 draws and 1 defeat, we’d still not be mathematically ensured of winning at this stage. Even if we reversed our 2 defeats to Aberdeen and changed two of our current draws to wins.

We’d have 76 pts to Aberdeens 59 but still 24 available.

Yeah – 90ish points is about the average winning total. 12-13 was a bit lower, 13-14 a bit higher. Would expect us to be around there again this year.

I have no knowledge of what is happening behind the scenes. (That obviously won’t prevent me having an opinion and guaranteeing you that it is 100% set in granite accurate.)

My heart hates the storm of personal disrespect that is showering down on Ronny at the the moment. If it happened to anyone else I would feel the same.

There is no ‘but’ to that statement. The staggering vitriol sadly was mirrored on Saturday at the game when behind me and Grand67, as the game reached its close, a few individuals fired a constant stream of abuse at our manager. What was even more stunning was the reaction around us. No-one said anything! A few shook their heads, but that was it. I remember when Gordon Strachan was subjected to similar. I got in a fight under the North stand with some who should have known better. Now? I would love to be that capable…sadly time has wreaked its toll.

I am not a great advocate of Ronny’s way of doing things and admit to never having been so, well not from since the Hampden debacles, but he didn’t put himself in that position and he won’t remove himself from it…would any of us?

As I said that’s my heart talking!

With regards to Moyes/McKay/uncle Tim cobbley and all etc, my head speaks differently.

I know that journalists have contacts in the dressing and board room; I’ve talked to them in the past.

I believe they have ‘not been discouraged’ as they have not only asked insiders the same questions but have not been warned off. The speculation on radio/tv/press could be stopped in a second. It hasn’t, and it would not surprise me if little feelers had been put out through intermediaries including the mejia.

Ronny has been treated miserably and irrespective of our professional view, Celtic owe a duty of care to him.

I am disappointed not only in Celtic at board level for this, but also in myself for being unable to come to any other conclusion.

I don’t see Ronny as more than a short term appointee now, but my God we should have a bit more professionalism and humanity in how we handle this.

    Hail Hail
