Neil’s back, Anthony’s off

454

Best wishes to Neil Lennon is his new role as Hibernian manager. Without wanting to be impolite about Alan Stubbs, Hibs have traded-up in getting a manager of international repute and experience at the highest level of the game.

Neil is a talented coach who got unlikely results across his Celtic career. He’ll bring Hibs up next season and establish a platform to rebuild the club.

Best wishes too to fellow Irishman Anthony Stokes, who left the club yesterday six years after joining from Hibs. The best of Anthony was there for all to see at the Scottish Cup final. He’s still only 27 and, should he find the appetite, he should still have a few good years in the game. His Celtic ‘thing’ finished years ago.

Celtic legend, Charlie Gallagher, will be signing copies of his autobiography at Waterstons, East Kilbride, this Saturday (11th) from 2pm, and 2pm the following Saturday (18th) at Waterstones, Braehead. Get along to see him!

Good luck to all involved in the Green Brigade Anti-discrimination tournament at James McGrory Park on Saturday. If you’re not in East Kilbride, get along.

    Hi everyone

Can anyone help a friend, please? He has won tickets ,full hospitality package including flights and 5 star accommodation in Dublin for 3nights for the Barcelona v Celtic game on July 30th.

The problem is that it happens to be on the date set for his wedding which has been planned ages ago at a very exclusive venue.

He wants to know whether anyone is interested in getting married?

  2. It’s a strange one, and I can only assume people are being willfully ignorant, as we’re all cleverer than that on CQN:). I can only speak for myself, but reading others posts I can see some agree with me and for the same reasons. I would never give up my season books because the team were doing badly, because I disliked the manager or his tactics, and certainly not because I disliked the board or the way the club is run. These things all change in a lifetime and will only impact on the football for a time, things change. The reason I have given up my books is because of cheating, for the first time in 125years we could prove it, and did nothing. As I’ve stated before, I really wish I could pretend it’s not a rigged game, and the fix ain’t in, but alas it is, and it won’t change as long as we all go along with it. I have no gripe with fellow supporters renewing(wish I could), and would certainly not criticise anyone for doing so. So those people who seem to be taking some delight in people like me being “wrong”(as so many renewed), get a grip and grow up.

I see the Greenslade piece has been moved from the main Guardian Football Web page in the past hour to the sub-page – All Today’s Stories.

No breaking news (that I can see) to justify moving it – only came on-line at 7:52am!

  4. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

Just read the Roy Greenslade article.

I have to thank him for putting his reply to a few Twitter, etc, requests into a full article;that certainly accorded the matter some respect-probably more than had been shown before.

I also don’t think he will be happy at the content of the article when compared to the truth. He has never struck me as the type of guy to allow others to make him look foolish with impunity.

I expect this isn’t the last we’ll hear from him on it.

    I have renewed.

In doing so I have given up my right to moan about being cheated. I now have to accept I am paying to watch a rigged competition favourable to only one team in the country.

Anyone who has renewed and paid like me forfeits a right to complain.

  6. About 5 years ago at an Open Meeting of Celtic supporters at St Mary ‘s a “resolution” for the want of another word was put to the floor and passed.

It basically said we had lost confidence in the SFA to govern honestly and wanted accountable transparent governance. Those three words came from a CQN man originally and were used because they reflected the mood of the support that frequented CQN at the time.

Five years later we are witnessing the consequences of the lack of such governance writ large.

What should have and could have been dealt with competently by the SFA and Celtic has grown arms and legs fueled by suspicion that there is something to hide.

In fact the more obstruction and obfuscation there has been the greater the suspicion.

However a we reminder at this point of expectations. I posted on that matter a few days back and I might repeat the post but briefly all Res12 asked was to get answers from UEFA concerning the granting and retention of a UEFA licence in 2011.

There was cause to do so because Sherrif Officers don’t normally call to collect tax that isn’t overdue between qualifying rounds of a UEFA competition.

The basic question (although it is only one of many put) was how come?

As TBB posted a few weeks back there might be a perfectly acceptable explanation that answers that question although the resistance to obtaining it does raise suspicions that something wasn’t right.

We shall see but if ever the case for more transparent and accountable governance needed evidence it’s been the last 5 years.

I would add an extra requirement though and that is competence but perhaps that is a consequence of being accountable and transparent.

  7. Therein lies the issue for most Auldheid.

We did not expect the SFA to handle anything competently. We expected Celtic PLC to?

Do you still have faith in our board that they will not show themselves up to be yellow bellied, lilly livered cowards?

The Guardian’s claims that the advert was in French overlooks one TINY point:

Why would anyone put out an advert in an English language newspaper distributed in Britain in French????

    Nobody would understand it!

  10. MWD’s, you are a paying customer and have every right to complain about whatever you think worthy of complaint. As does Scots. Attending games is not accepting cheating, indeed it is standing up to the cheats.

I have paid up knowing fully that I expect my team to be cheated. Why would I now complain?

There is not another thing in my life I would pay for, knowing I would be cheated out of my cash.

Both confirm that the two versions of the ads we sent them were in English.

They are going to get a senior editorial colleague to call me.

Of course the statistics will be spun to suit the justice Secretary political agenda, that’s what mainstream politics does

  15. Scots

    Well said.

It was fear of supporters not renewing that stopped the SFA/SPL plan to have Sevco carry on regardless in the top tier back in 2012, nothing else.

So I’ve had 4 more years of Celtic thanks to that.

The magic words ‘Brendan Rodgers’ don’t make the story of a 4 year old club coming ‘back’ to a place it’s never been to go for its 55th League Title any less of a farce.

All with the official approval of the game’s ‘authorities’, the MSM, and the silence of our own and other clubs, of course.

Paid to watch a rigged game before, ignorance my excuse.

    Don’t have that now.

Our current custodians have Celtic FC at the back of the bus, despite other seats available we had the right to choose and fight with a very winnable case, we choose the back of the bus

As you said we now have to accept what will undoubtedly will come our way after all controversial decisions all add to the old firm experience, its enjoyable to complain about the masons in the black isnt it ?

  17. I’ll tell you what, say what you want about Sevco but if they sign Niko Kranjcar to play along side Joey Barton that’s not a bad midfield pairing

  18. MWD

At that same meeting I stood beside Mark McGees Eyeliner and on hearing an explanation from the Chair for Celtic’s stance on some issue or other we growled Time they grew a set”.

If the stories about DD being angry and so more interested are true then perhaps we are witnessing the start of a much needed change of attitude.

Hiring an aggressive PR Company to raise awareness of the factors that make Celtic act passively would help. You see what does happen when heads go above the parapet.

That latter point about not speaking because of fear of threats (even the journos would agree) is but one of the wider issues to come from the last 5 years.

    On recent updates at Guardian.

Consider for a moment Greenslade continued the ‘French’ version narrative, to stick it right up the upstairs men?! It would be child’s play for someone of his standing to stir up the nest from the inside.

‘ Guv I was just relaying what we had already placed in the public domain…..you mean it wasn’t in French?…oh dear, looks like there is a much bigger story here guv, can I crack on a bit?’

10/06/16 New Hate Crime Stats out – SG stumbles about trying to relate them to football fans!

Below is the text of a press statement released by FAC this morning. We have just been told that Justice Minister Michael Mathieson is taking one for the team today – obviously Annabelle Ewing is too sharp to fall for that one! In saying that, he called his press conference at 9.30am so that the journos wouldn’t have time to study the new stats which were released at……9.30am!

By all accounts his main discussion was regarding the Cup Final. FAC has not been advised whether anyone present reminded him that assault was a crime before the Act and will still be a crime when the Act is repealed.

It is worth noting that during the 2015-16 season an estimated 2,059,219 citizens attended football matches in Scotland so that amounts to 0.01% arrests (not convictions) under Section 1 of the Act. The Cabinet Secretary’s repeated calls for punitive measures such as ‘strict liability’ is unsubstantiated by the Government’s own evidence base. Democrats and citizens of all political persuasion should take note and analyse subjectively the evidence available to them.
