Never change, Dave.

You can tell when a crisis is brewing at Ibrox, the emergence of a spontaneous statement is a sure giveaway.  Far from apologising for using club funds in an ultimately pointless legal defence of Sports Direct’s enforcement of a contract signed last year, chairman, Dave King, reacted to the reality that Newco will complete at least four years of his tenure trophy-less by threatening Sports Direct with further legal action.

This time the action is over a lack of accounting information on the performance of that merchandising contract from a year ago.  It is almost certain that Sports Direct are obliged to provide a sales reports and some form of audit, this would be the basis of any sales-linked bonus payments.

Dave’s court action is likely to be the most expensively purchased accounting report in history.  All this gunboat diplomacy may seem wasteful but some clubs cannot exist without a bogeyman.

Celtic are now in the League Cup Final.  Those inside the club will realise there is a lot of work to do to complete the first leg of the treble treble, but the majority who traipsed out of Hampden on Sunday will consider the matter a forgone conclusion.  They saw a green and white future; the very real prospect of another treble while the chairman with the reverse Midas Touch controls Ibrox.

Fergus McCann built a new stadium and had league trophy in a cabinet in the boardroom when he left Celtic five years after taking control.  This character will be at Ibrox four years come March and the greatest achievement in his tenure was a semi-final penalty kick competition win.

Never change, Dave.

  1. Good evening from a chilly Forres, -2 earlier on, I had to come up the road to put the heating on.

A non-Celtic/football related question – does anybody on here do any internal building alterations or know of a reputable builder? I’m looking to have an internal brick wall removed and a couple of other structures and probably an RSJ put in and a few other things. This is for my daughter’s flat in Dumbreck and not Forres ?

I’m popping out for an hour or so and will scan back.

“As I previously discussed, who has the power to allow players agents to find a new club, I note you offer that Boyatta was allowed to negotiate with Fulham, are you saying BR gave the go ahead then changed his mind?

I doubt even the manager is allowed to tell players agents to find another club, I expect only the chief of player procurement is allowed to make that decision whilst the manager may offer his opinion and make recommendations I doubt very much procurement and negotiations are part of his remit.”

Thanks for the reply. I did “allow” for the prospect that permission had been given, even though I have no idea if it was or not, because that is what was alleged. The allegation being made against PL was that he tried to sell Boyata even though BR did not want him sold. I allowed the idea becaue I did not want to be seen as ducking the issue but I am still no more sure about the respective views of both men because I am not privy to their thoughts?

Did PL allow it after BR expressly forbade it?

Did PL allow it after Br agreed it was ok but later changed his mind and said we can’t afford to lose hime.

Did BR allow him to speak to the club, hoping to keep him sweet by not forbidding it but still hoping he would stay?

There are a hundred possibilities and I do not have the evidence to judge.

My main point was that Boyata stayed. If PL was all powerful and could over-ride everyine bar Dermot- why did Dedryk stay? If PL just wanted the money- why did Dedryk stay?

I am not contesting the point you make that if it comes to negotiations with another club, it is PL not BR who conducts them- that was true of both Dedryk and Moussa’s situation. We have a strong allegation- that I do not contest- that Dedryk spoke to Fulham. Do we have any proof that Fulham spoke with PL on figures and a transfer timetable? Or are we just filling in the gaps in a game where we have very little factual knowledge?

  3. Lawell a hatchet man,ask people that worked in Clyde Port,as for his bonus of £2million,for what bringing in Loanees, not investing in new players in the , summer,3/4 indoor pitch up at Lennoxtown, catering facilities inside Celtic park a joke,oh aye he certainly knows how to get his big Bonus, myself and thousands like me ,put a lot of money into Celtic ,as for him and his cronies Freebies.

You have to align a multitude of moons for your analysis to stand up.

    PL has history:

He has gone cheap and pliable on multiple occasions.

He has mucked about with a number of transfers in the past.

He has let local talent go south before.

He has been very faithful to individual agents — to a ridiculous degree in one instance.

    I was not aware of making an analysis. I proposed several alternative hypotheses, each of which I am as unsure of as I am of the standard default position- it’s all PL’s fault. It might help to debate some of your points if you gave examples- e.g. when was he cheap and pliable? Did local talent never go south before PL’s time etc;

Otherwise it just reads as – here’s what I don’t like about him and here are the names I am going to call him. Without a control group for PL- i.e. somebody in Scotland who is doing this player recruitment bit better- then there is no dialogue to be had here.

He has an astroturf cohort who will repeat his excuses at the drop of a hat.

Sorry, no idea of the intent of the first phrase. And, as for the second, it is just as easy to jibe that he has a cohort who will criticise his every move and decision at the drop of a rumour. Best to stick to the argument than try to win by demonising posters who make alternative points. Reasons are not excuses and not joining in with the desire to find him guilty does not make you a cheerleader, a cap doffer or a bender-over. The invective is entertaining but it is not enlightening.

He has emptied the LL Upper.

Our SB sales have remained very high. Customers are still refusing to attend early round LC games, just as they did throughout history. We are not as defensively loyal as the Sevcoites have been but our regular attendance is the envy of many.

    BR also has some history:

He has managed to get us playing some decent football.

He has motivated the squad to a degree that is nearly 50% of the sainted BC — herd of cows on a wet day.

He has found a couple of gems and got them to play well with the potential to be CL Last 16 standard this season or next.

He has got the support onside and revved up.

He has filled the LL Upper / Free Pie Seats / …

There is no dispute that Brendan has energised our team. There is no dispute that he has bought some good players but his reord on transfers is just mixed. Ronny Deila bought some good players too, or were bought for him, but Ronny was unable to run this team the way BR has.

On attendances, I would assert that, if our early LC fixtures vs Thistle and St. Johnstone had been at CP, there would have been lower crowds, even after a double treble. Our attendance rate remains good.

Consequently with that background in plain view — this summer’s shambles is a PL production.

You can speculate as much as you want but what we know — from years gone past — means he is culpable for our current predicament.

Hardly a QED line of reasoning. It consists of saying “I know he’s a bad yin. He’s always been a bad yin. And he comes from a long line of bad yins”. I am afraid I expect a bit more info and reasoning.

Got to rush again – catch replies later

  7. I posted the other night that I didn’t think PL was worthy of his remuneration but that if he did the right thing by the Res 12’ers at this year’s AGM then I’d reconsider and that’s where I’m at. He’s got to earn his corn and stand up for us ordinary fans who spent thousands watching a rigged game. Failure to do that is acquiescence with a fraud and downright cowardice. By all means take nearly @£2.5m a year out of the club but don’t shirk the big decisions if you do. Crunch time for him I think.

  8. Bada

    People will cite hindsight etc.

But I actually felt at the time that we were getting rid of Jancko far too prematurely.

He was only 21, encountered one or two injury problems.

But as a young player with good attributes, speed and strength. I’m sure there was / is a right decent right back there. Particularly the more game time he gains.

    For a start, I would …

tell people what Celtic knew about the 5WA and when…

tell people what has been done/not done with respect to the Res. 12, issues (and why)

and I would tell people what disclosure was made under the OBFA and why (was all disclosure mandated under the Act, and if not, why was it made).

I think that is a decent start.

How much have our disreputable PLC been required to pay over the last few years in fines for flares , Palestinian flags , political protests et al et al ?

I suspect that 99% of Posters here are exactly in the same boat.

  24. MacJay

There is no division here mi amigo, I support Celtic FC, the PLC are nothing to me, they are parasites who take from the club and give nothing back.

The CEO alone has taken nigh on £12 million out of the club since he got the job, the other directors who do feck all as far as I can see take out serious money for what, I said the other day that I fully understand the need for a CEO, I disagree with much of what he does but know fine well he is under instruction with his remit, just could do it a tad differently imo, the rest of the directors, if you can enlighten me on what the ef they do for their remuneration I would be grateful to you.

I also expect from our CEO a modicum of honesty, him being part of the game in an administrative role, I expect him to uphold the rules and do whatever it takes to expose the corruption and the cover ups, in this he has failed drastically, he has done nothing by the looks of things, infact he has been part of the dastard dealings again imo, the 5WA, Res 12, not opposing RC Ogilvie etc.

As a CEO of a PLC, his main priority is to look after the interests of the shareholders, allowing, or not challenging the sfa in the cover up of more than a decade of cheating, the consequences of which have allowed another club to access a competition that we were the rightful contenders for, thus depriving the club of £millions and potentially £100s of millions, this is a serious dereliction of duty as a CEO, I could add in the fact that at times he plays at a football manager but what’s the point, he has failed big time in his duties as a CEO, first and foremost to the shareholders and secondly to the football club, IMO of course.

At the end of the day he is a suit who’s role is to look after the PLC, the shareholders are or should be his main objective, I have no beef with his remit, I have a problem that he doesn’t even do this FFS.

    So, no division here ;-)

The SFA are having difficulties knowing how to proceed and the departure of the Compliance Officer who spent 7 months deciding what charges to make and the arrival of his replacement has not helped.

The matter could go more than one way so let’s just say the situation is too fluid to judge.

“Healthy remuneration based on extremely heathy turnover.”

Not slightly perturbed about the size of that basic wage and bonus? When compared to his counterparts in England he takes, both in terms of a percentage and even absolutely (in most instance), far more out of Celtic than EPL directors take from their clubs.

PL is truly riding on the coat-tails of BR’s brilliance; our current position, at least to my mind, and on the evidence available, is not down to PL’ management of the club, it’s down to the BR effect. We are not going for a double treble down to PL, nor are we making record profit or revenue on the back of his hard labour, nor are we thumping Sevco at every opportunity- it really is attributable to BR’s brilliance and his ability to turn this club around.
