Never step into a great man’s shoes, Nadir

798

Remember Henri Camara?  Martin O’Neill paid a significant loan fee to sign him 10 years ago, in the considerable wake of Henrik Larsson.  Henri flopped and soon lost his place in the team but the weight of responsibility thrust upon his frame was considerable.  No one could come close to filling the gap left in the Celtic team.

Nadir Ciftci would do well to consider whose shoes he’s stepping into at Celtic.  Last summer’s striker signings, John Guidetti and Stefan Scepovic could hardly muster a start the second half of the season.  Leigh Griffiths, who arrived 18 months ago, got the striker’s gig most weeks, but Leigh came to Celtic with as illustrious a heritage as Nadir.

Never step into a great man’s shoes, but Nadir’s not doing that.  This is the perfect time for a striker to join Celtic, I hope he has the appetite.

I see the great and the good in the media are flogging lyrical at the prospect of a prodigy arriving from Madrid.  None of this has come from Celtic.  The player may become available at some point but I reckon it remains a hard task convincing Real his immediate future should lie in Glasgow.

So in cricket Wales do not exist as a country?

How do Irish and Scotsman qualify for England? It’s all very confusing!

Do any English players play for England?

They go on about cricket all summer and they are gash at it. We had to send a boy down to win their Wimbledon and now it looks as though we need to get boys in their cricket team anaw!

I read the Swiss Rambler analysis a couple of weeks ago. Even posted a link in CQN.

Now it’s long and detailed and I can understand those not so interested in the business side of football not taking an interest.

However it reinforces what many have posted on here about the environment in which Celtic play and how that environment dictates the policies that Celtic have adopted as a business and why we are a develop and sell club.

    Worth ploughing through.

  14. I know videos only show the best of a player but there was a fair mix of technique and strength demonstrated in the clip of Ciftci posted earlier.

Enough to tell me why RD fancied him in his squad.

If you think back to last season we missed a fair number of good chances. Chances that if taken would have allowed the team to be more entertaining than determined or even desperate.

Goals change games. The guy could be a consistent game changer in the SPFL.

Thanks for your appreciative comments yesterday.

It’s not that I want others to adopt a similar patient attitude, it’s that by nature I like to share what has been good for me in life and discovering patience was a life changer.

But we all have our own journeys and I’m very patient with that. :)

  20. Thompsontwin,

“Some would suggest that we fully use the £22 million available to us from the bank – that would get us ONE marquee signing in transfer fess and wages over four years.

Do we ‘saddle’ the club with £32 million in debt for one player and the possibility of Champions League qualification – in my opinion once every three years is where we are at.”

Absolute rubbish, you’ll obviously be able to back up with a single yep just one quote from anyone who made such a suggestion.

It’s up there with macjay finding a quote from the Greek govt telling the world that,

“Maybe it wasn’t the capitalists bankers fault after all” he did say he found this quote and that gold star should believe it and take up any argument with the Greek govt.

Me I can’t see either being true but I’d gladly accept sources to prove me wrong.

Swiss rambler analysis also provides rationale for bhoys ditching Sky due to their disproportionate investment in Scottish football.

  31. ThompsonTwin on

Canamalar – We carry around £10 million(reducing) bank loan, with a agreed facility to draw down another £22 million at agreed rates.

Let’s say we sign a EPL-type circa £6/8 million transfer fee, and £2 million per year wages over four years – that’s £14/16 million.

So our debt goes up to £24/26 million and more if we get two players in.

We would probably need two to make a ‘real’ difference.

What is your challenge/point on these figures?

  32. Twelve months ago Jason Denayer arrived as an unknown teenager.

He quickly established himself in the first team, turned in some excellent performances, scored a few goals, made a full international debut for Belgium and won one of the Young POTY awards.

I wish we could get him for another season.
