Remember Henri Camara? Martin O’Neill paid a significant loan fee to sign him 10 years ago, in the considerable wake of Henrik Larsson. Henri flopped and soon lost his place in the team but the weight of responsibility thrust upon his frame was considerable. No one could come close to filling the gap left in the Celtic team.
Nadir Ciftci would do well to consider whose shoes he’s stepping into at Celtic. Last summer’s striker signings, John Guidetti and Stefan Scepovic could hardly muster a start the second half of the season. Leigh Griffiths, who arrived 18 months ago, got the striker’s gig most weeks, but Leigh came to Celtic with as illustrious a heritage as Nadir.
Never step into a great man’s shoes, but Nadir’s not doing that. This is the perfect time for a striker to join Celtic, I hope he has the appetite.
I see the great and the good in the media are flogging lyrical at the prospect of a prodigy arriving from Madrid. None of this has come from Celtic. The player may become available at some point but I reckon it remains a hard task convincing Real his immediate future should lie in Glasgow.

Cowiebhoy:
I like reading.
Cowiebhoy:
When I’m really bored I even read the SFA webshite.
SoT / MiT,
Funny you should mention Sturgill Simpson. Just “discovered” him myself a short while ago. Closest thing I’ve heard to Waylon Jennings in a longtime. Guess the closest label would be “new Classic Country”.
The London gig’s mid Aug (I think) ? I fancied going to, until I remembered that it’ll be slap bang in the middle of a 5 week working stint, offshore Congo. Plus ca feggin change !!
But, enjoy it. Lucky fellah !
mike in toronto.
Perfetto !
Sturgill Simpson started off doing bluegrass but then went psychedelic country..
Honestly, I love watching the Tour just for the scenery. Always stunning.
IMO
Wee Fergus missed a trick back then he only cut the head off the poisoned vine and left the roots .
Maybe this time round we are not too bothered about the head ( CO ) but are looking to get into the vine at root level.
At least I hope we are

I am hopeful that we will be challenging on a few fronts this season (a good CL run), so we will need a deeper squad this year ….
Rogic seems to have real natural ability, but seems to lack playing experience … I think that, he more than others, may benefit from a season loan to another team (Hibs?) where he would get a regular game … although he is young, LH seems more ready for a game in the SPL … at least, from the little I have seen of the two of them.
Jungle Jim .
Contador looked real good in the Giro. The Giro and The Tour would be a real achievement . This will be a hard tour to win – lots of climbing to be done..
No more Tour updates from me – promise !
Also think Liam Henderson has a big future, hopefully with Celtic
Mind you, he claims one of his younger Brothers is a better player :-)
Hail Hail
rioskorrie.
Yes – that is the man ..
He has a gig in Edinburgh .

See I was mistaken earlier for Istanbul Bhoy.Although a great honour,it wisny me.I am having a wee mini break from the “Whingers”.
In saying that, seems a bit better today.I think they are just re-grouping.
Right on cue,San Diego Bhoy wants kids who have never really featured to play in the CL this season, instead of,if the slim chance we get him,Odegaard.Yep,that would work.
Of to a Barbeque, populated with a right few Huns. This should be good.Already gave them dogs abuse on Sunday.
Not like me !!!!!!!!!!!!.
Did a 3-hour ride, then back to base (Cafe Ciclista in Denia) for a few glasses of ice cold Radler and watched the Tour with one eye open. my summer ritual. Only thing missing is a hammock so I can doze off and be woken with 10kms to go each day.
3 year deal for Logan Baily.

This is the fella Travellerbhoy posted about last night …. apparently a fellow traveller/preacher … but he posted it late last night (your time), so you may not have seen it. I quite enjoyed it, and given your taste in music, perhaps you might like it as well ….

Did I miss Cifcti deal being confirmed on the Celtic website ? Or has it not yet been announced/confirmed ?
Hail Hail
Ole John Guidetti has been linked now with more clubs than I’ve had hot dinners. Embarrassing.
Logan Baillie is Lex Baillie’s son. #celticfacts

If you repeat if often enough some people may believe you.
Did you know Celtic left the floodlights on to guide German bombers during WW2?

Coincidentally, I did a three hour ride today as well but I would think that is where the similarities end! The wind seemed to be against me for four fifths of the circuit!
More positive blog today but it is still, from me, a
Cheerio for now.

You missed my point entirely.
I was sticking up for our academy kids, who have been faithful to the Club from the start. And also for our established first teamers into the bargain.
Unlike some 15 year old mercenary who we are going to develop for Real Madrid at our expense.
How you could construe my post as a whinge is beyond me.
Where in my post did you see me say play the kids in the Champions league?
Now I see what Hebcelt has been up to :-)

Big clubs like Celtic and Real Madrid lend young players to smaller clubs, – McMullen to St Mirren – Duffy to Alloa – Findlay to Kilmarnock.
Odegaard is an exceptional talent. I read a hunny hack this morning spouting that the story was fantasy and he was going to Getafe.
I bet you he’s hoping.
HH
Just seen that Findlay is going on loan to Killie, I’m not sure if McGregor, McGeouch & Henderson still qualify as newbies but apart from them O’Connell & Irvine are the only other young pups in the squad and I read somewhere that Irvine was likely to go back to Ross County on either a loan or permanent move.
Despite the promise that there would be an emphasis on bringing some home grown talent through the ranks, it doesn’t look like there will be much opportunity for anyone making a breakthrough this year.
Can’t see McGregor, McGeouch or O’Connell getting much of a shout, Henderson only possibility.

I think there’s much more likelihood of Dylan McGeouch playing for Hibs this season.

Aye, I get all that- honestly.
My point is why should our present permanent signings have to arrest their own development in favour of some supposed teenage pop star prodigy? It not like in the case of Denayer where we need the cover. Our midfield is well taken care of.
The hammer throwers in our leagues defenses will be licking their lips in anticipation.
I’d bet you a penny to a pound, he would be running off crying to his mammy in no time at the lack of respect for his “superstardom”.
Not to say, that if he does arrive at Lennoxtown I won’t back him to the hilt.
Cowiebhoy – can you see if your iPad is handling the mag site any better now? We’ve been trying to sort this today and other people with issues have had matters resolved.
Calum Waters completes loan move to Dumbarton
bournesouprecipe, Dylan McGeouch’s contract is up but Celtic have an option of a 1 year extension. It wouldn’t appear to make much sense to exercise the option and then lend him back out for the extended year.
They either plan to sell him and make a few quid or give him another chance and if he shows well, offer him a new contract. Apparently he had a good season with Hibs last year.
corkcelt
Yip. Hibs want him back I think we’ll deal.
Corkcelt
My Hibs mate raved about McGeouch last year and said we were crazy to let him go on loan.

I wonder what the business case is for our youth development. If we seldom bring a player through, are we developing for other clubs?
Morally this may be fair as we take supporters from towns who have their own team.
Commercially, it only makes sense if the cost avoidance of having a Celtic developed player in the squad for a few years pays the money back.
E.g McManus, Forrest, McGeady, Maloney (first time)
The big profit from selling on should not be in the business case – unexpected bonus.
On the past few years, there is little case for the development of youth being worth it.
