New Balance take over from Nike this summer as Celtic’s official kit partner and main sponsor. The US sportswear firm have along heritage in technical products, like running shoes, with less of a legacy in the leisurewear market than the likes of Nike, but this move, as well as a recent deal to partner Liverpool, indicates a strong commitment to become a major player in the football marketplace.
Both the Celtic and Liverpool contracts have been advertised as potentially record deals for the respective clubs, although each club declined to put a figure on the value, or the contract period in their official statements. It’s likely that a significant part of the contract fee will depend on Champions League qualification.
Unconfirmed reports put the size of the deal at £29m, cash that other clubs have securitised off to a retailer.
Last call today for CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner, which takes place next Friday, 13 March, at the Kerrydale Suite. After the dinner we have a Q&A with Packy Bonnar, Tommy Coyne, Joe Miller and Tom Boyd. We have Archie Macpherson speaking about Jock Stein on the 50th anniversary of him becoming manager, and song from Patricia Ferns.
The object of the night is to raise money to build another school kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi. Kris Commons’ partner, Lisa Hague, will also join us. She will be auctioning an incredible prize of a signed Ronny Deila jersey, signed Kris Commons boots and match hospitality in the Players’ Lounge for the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow.
Tickets will be posted out over the next few days, email me if you’re still looking, celticquicknews@gmail.com we’re closing the book tomorrow.

The ‘new’ kit supply deal with New Balance (still think that’s not quite a ‘catchy’ name!)?
£29 million deal?
Is that over 5 years?
If it is that equates to £5.8 million per annum.
Was the Nike deal not £5 million PA?
If so, not such a great deal.

Visitors last night did not park the bus.
Corner count was about 9-3 in their favour.
We missed good chances in opening 10 minutes and paid the penalty.
Midfield duo of Brown and Johansen ineffective.
Effi an easy target for scapegoat and by no means the worst !
Apologies if mentioned already.
Celtics best games since Christmas have been on artificial grass. I’ve noticed when we play on cut-up surfaces we suffer badly.
Unfortunately, at the moment, CP is away off it’s usual standard. This is a pity, as the league imo would be in the bag if we put away SJ last night.
The good news is spring is here and surfaces and our style of play will come good when it matters.

m6bhoy,
rather than Nike dumping Celtic, I was told by a designer who works for Nike in the Netherlands, that Nike are looking at dumping football in general in favour of the running industry.
—————————————————————-
They may have dumped Man. Utd but they were replaced by Bayern Munich. Do you seriously think that they will dump Barcelona especially as Adidas have Real Madrid? Nike are already massive players (possibly the biggest) in the athletics market. Why would they need to ditch football for running? Just when did Charles Green and Craig Whyte join the Nike board?
Like father, like son….

Yes Paul Murray does have a fine head of hair.
However as he is always after a blazer and tie but does nor want to pay for them the question to ask is it real or a wig and if so did he pay for it.

Although Celtic were poor, it was interesting to note that the referee did not award a single foul against St. Johnstone after the 61st minute. That’s 31 minutes (if you include the generous 2 minutes added).
Mark, as an ex-referee (at a lower level) I’m not usually in the camp of blaming every poor decision by refs on their secret, hunnish allegiances, but this guy Murray has serious problems refereeing Celtic games in a balanced and fair way. It is only my opinion, but this seems to date from the ‘shame game’ episode when he was embarrassed by the whole thing, especially his ‘defence’ of the clowns that manhandled him that night. Ever since then he has sought, again IMO, to avoid doing anything that might appear to favour Celtic, even if that means not strictly applying the rules. Your observation above is an example; the first bad foul on Broonie by Swanson merited a yellow in any other game involving any other team, the second on Griffo was a red in any country other in the world.
Nir Biton is being reported as saying he is “pure chuffed” that his strip next year will not only have his name on the back, but his initials on the front too.
This is a remarkable deal for Celtic given the environment we play in. Other clubs would sell their weans for a fraction of that money.

There must always be a Murray at Rangers. It’s a tradition.
Paul Murray is the latest to try. Poor Paul, always the bridesmaid, never the bride.

Few moans about scepovic not been giving game time hence ronnie must think hes useless
Looks to be that bitton and griffiths had to fight their way into the team and prove themselves to ronnie..
Ronnie has mentioned that he wants more from scepovic in training and also thinks he needs to improve his strength.. we only play 1 out and out striker so its tough for anyone to get a run of games.
I think ronnie needs a plan b formation that can involve 2 strikers .. i think all the strikers we have would do better in a partnership.
CP pitch looking the worse for wear.
