CELTIC new Bhoy Kundai Benyu scored on his debut as Celtic strolled to a 3-1 win over Lowland League champions East Kilbride 3-1 at K-Park.

The 19-year-old former Ipswich Town star played just over an hour and is hoping to build his fitness in time to feature in some of the first team’s pre-season schedule.

He said: “It was a really good work-out for me. That’s first goal in Celtic colours, so I’m very happy about that.

“But the main thing was getting a game under my belt and getting fit.

“East Kilbride worked hard and put us under pressure, but it’s all about fitness at this stage.

“I’ve been training with the first team all week and I’ll be joining up with them again when they get back from Ireland, so, hopefully, I can catch the gaffer’s eye and get in the team.

“I’m hoping to be involved in some of the first team’s pre-season matches, but I have to get fitter first.

“I’ll do that in the next couple of games with the development team and hopefully then the gaffer will put me in.”

Celtic took the lead in the 49th minutethrough Mark Hill and Benyu made it 2-0 when he walloped in a superb effort.

EK pulled one back in 63 minutes when Keiran Gibbons’ curling strike from 25 yards found the far corner.

However, Hoops sub Thomas Caffrey notched a third 11 minutes later after drifting past three players and zipping in a drive at the far corner.
