CELTIC have appointed Anton McElhone, a former Spurs fitness coach, as the club’s new head of sport science.

The Australian takes the place vacated by Jack Nayler who left Parkhead in the summer to join Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.

McElhone was at the North London club for over 10 years before leaving to join MLS side New England Revolution in January 2018.

He had a spell at Bradford City before replacing David Hopkin as Morton manager in December last year on an interim basis. However, he quit Cappielow following a disappointing run of results, according to a report in the Daily Record.

McElhone becomes the first change to the backroom staff since Ange Postecoglou’s June arrival as the long-term successor to Neil Lennon who left the club in February with John Kennedy taking charge of the team in a caretaker capacity for the remaining 10 games of a disappointing campaign.
