It’s great news that Celtic have secured three first choice players, Charlie Mulgrew, Adam Matthews and James Forrest, on new long term contracts. It allows the players to forget about long-term career issues and concentrate on team matters and the manager and scouts can worry about squad recruitment efforts in other areas.
This news is a direct consequence of Champions League group stage qualification. Not only do Celtic have funds to increase wage budget, more importantly, aspirational football players, who want to reach the very top of the game, have a reason to be here.
The same is true of Fraser Forster’s England call up. Scottish football has long been regarded along the lines of lower division football in England, but with Champions League football, the English national team have endorsed our football. It will be easier to attract the next wave of recruits as a result. One day Kris Commons [stand out Player of the Year candidate]can only hope his own national team will regard his productive displays in the same manner.

UEFA has issued its UEFA Champions League revenue distribution system for the forthcoming campaign. The estimated gross commercial revenue from the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup is €1.34bn.
* each of the 20 clubs participating in the play-offs will collect a fixed amount of €2.1m.
* 2011 Scotlands rep in the 9.3m euros for the tv pool
*Each of the 32 sides involved in the group stage will collect a base fee of €8.6m. Performance bonuses will also see €1m paid for a win and €500,000 for a draw in the group phase.

Has it not occurred to his follow followers that there is a pretty good reason why Fortune 500 companies, FTSE companies aren’t falling over themselves to bag naming rights / sponsorship rights at Castle Greyskull .
Whilst I think the Commercial Team at CP and at the SPL /SFA is a bit lightweight, the fact that SPL / SFL Cup / SFA and indeed Celtic have all struggled to either get sponsors, or to get sponsors with deeper pockets, is indicative of the fact that Scottish Football / sport isn’t a particularly attractive proposition.
Meanwhile , i can just imagine, Mr Green’s next visit to Forres Mechanics when he is accompanied by Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and Big Sammy from Big Sammy’s debt collection.

Interesting Kris was called up while at Derby and is a much better player now, CL’s reasons for not picking him doesn’t wash, you play your inform players. JK’s injury was a shocker, the guy mean’t it, that was the worst thing about it.
Still I think there is value in our players playing Internationals though, firstly because the high profile adds to their value and also because apart from Europe our players don’t get the experience of competing with top quality opposition.
