New contracts are Champions League dividend

1114

It’s great news that Celtic have secured three first choice players, Charlie Mulgrew, Adam Matthews and James Forrest, on new long term contracts.  It allows the players to forget about long-term career issues and concentrate on team matters and the manager and scouts can worry about squad recruitment efforts in other areas.

This news is a direct consequence of Champions League group stage qualification.  Not only do Celtic have funds to increase wage budget, more importantly, aspirational football players, who want to reach the very top of the game, have a reason to be here.

The same is true of Fraser Forster’s England call up.  Scottish football has long been regarded along the lines of lower division football in England, but with Champions League football, the English national team have endorsed our football.  It will be easier to attract the next wave of recruits as a result.  One day Kris Commons [stand out Player of the Year candidate]can only hope his own national team will regard his productive displays in the same manner.

I am getting a recorded message on that one. Something about contractural reasons being unable to bring me the programme.

I only live in Scotland though, so maybe it was an unrealistic expectation ….

  16. Right bhoys I’ve emailed ND,DL,SR,CO on Sevco’s racist singing so let’s see if anything happens.

Start work at 5 bhoys if anyone on here calls SSB will you ask Daziel why he wanted NL sacked, last year he said it’s a results driven business and I’m sorry he must go but not once this year has he called for fat boys head.

  17. Sevconians on Twitter asking for FPLG to walk away. “I’m sick of this sh*t, it’s embarrassing!” one writes. :-D

  18. James Forrest is Neil Lennon! We are ALL Neil Lennon! on

    Clyde really is unreal ….

The “assumption” that Sevco will score is stated so openly … You get the impression they will be shell-shocked if Stirling score again!

  19. the collective willing sevco on is totally baffling in this so called modern world we live in. matter of time till we go level.

  20. Iain Mccall is a dyed in the wool hun no doubt about that, but surely someone should have word with him about his “comical Ally” punditry.

“they are playing over so well”…

He finds it impossible to offer any criticism whatsoever of his beloved Zombies.

  21. Snake Plissken on

They SHOULD be beating Stirling Albion for so many reasons but the struggle will continue season long.

Sevco nearly score and McCall almost wet himself.

    Says it all really.

  22. The way ssn report it , the huns are getting a taste of their own medicine down in the agricultural regions.

  23. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!.. Ibrox belongs to the creditors on

Awe, it’s OK, Snyde are confident sevco will win …..

  24. very happy with the 3 bhoys signing until 2016. hope we’re getting hooper, victor, ledley, rogne and watt to sign up as well over the coming weeks. think that would be just about all our good young players tied up for a good length of time. although i am sure at least one highly thought of player will move on this summer, thems are the brakes for us.

dont think we should be so cocky about rangers ipox developments (lack of) when we have not broke ground ourselves, the celtic triangle is still very much a paper plan. once i see the earth brake i will be very happy to endulge in the laughing at newco. hope the 21 million euros so far from C/L football and the sale of ki is used to progress the celtic triangle.

    hail hail

  25. Dalziel reverting to type by urging Rangers to return to a physical approach, like the Souness years, as the way to “batlle” it out of this division.
