Dont wear a poppy myself. Someone posted on here that the green
leaf attached should be worn at 11 o`cock, to symbolise when the
war ended, I have not seen one at all worn like this by celebs
newsreaders etc, it seems its just worn as an accessory and
they have no idea about what it means.
The fact that this government wants to celebrate/commemorate the
start of a war is despicable. The reasoning behind this is beyond
me or is it that we will be involved in wars in the future that will never
end(afghanistan, iraq) . So it will be beneficial for jingoistic purposes
to celebrate the start of a war than commemorate the end of one.
In a war that never ends it is impossible to remember the dead.
I would love for some fine CQN’ers to give me an explanation, any explanation whatsoever, regarding the picture accompanying today’s SevCo press release on their website…..
What was Mark Reid’s stopping distance a/ in good conditions b/ in the wet and c/ on black ice?
Its all part of Charlies plan to con them into subscribing for shares. He wore the orange strip out in America. Massive Union Jack on their photo all appealing to the lowest common denominator.Wouldn’t surprise me if he appears on X Factor next wearing an F the Pope t-shirt & singing The Billy Boys.

In David Hay’s second season – 1984/5 – I think that we had a guid team to watch.
If, we had ambitious leaders who would have found their way to releasing funds to purchase, a leftback and a centrehalf then, I think we could have won the CWC that season !
The Rapid Vienna games knocked us off the rails for a while but, If you consider that we had two of the most gifted footballers in Britain pulling the strings for us in midfield – The Maestro and his tutor, the late Tommy Burns. These two top-class players were ably assisted by the, drive-tenacity-work horse-discipline-goalscoring-dynamo in Murdo Macleod with, Davie Provan flitting from wing 2 wing.
Upfront we had – Brian Mclair and Frank McGarvey with, Mo Johnston(when he was King of the Jungle) waiting to play in the next round in Europe, after the R.Vienna games then, with the require additions to the squad mentioned above…we would have been in with a shout. imo

Didn’t his stopping distance depend on how far away the advertising hoardings were?

It’s them bein’ the fake patriot klanners that they are, wrapping themselves in their beloved butcher’s apron trying to stir it up as usual in their sinister lowlife loyalist lumpen fashion.
They are thieves and rogues, as always.
Hi guys, don’t post too often but having such fun this season I thought I might!
Did anyone see Jim White being outed by the Skybet guy as a Sevconian? SSN, about 20 mins ago.
White quickly brought that part of the show to an abrupt conclusion!
greenjedi,
“So you don’t think that the thousands of Celtic players, staff and fans deserve to be remembered.”
So you stick words in my mouth then greet ‘where have I said that’.
IMO the commemoration has been perverted beyond recognition, I bought poppies to commemorate the fallen in WW1 & WW2. I stopped when every other conflict was included into the commemoration, I now support the white poppy commemoration which is for the innocents who have died in all wars, where there is no obfuscation between heros and war criminals.

Mystified with that as well with that picture

I remember seeing a pic of – Jim White on the front page of the S#n during the 1990’s(I think) accompanied by Hun player Mark Walters and both of them were bedecked in OO-FB uniforms !
Did anyone else see this ?

With that you ah just have them :-))
The poppy was originally designed to be a reminder of the futility of war and the indignity of millions slaughtered for the vainglorious ambitions of the few, and to remind all : never again.
Nowadays it’s been usurped by the warmongers to celebrate the evil of legalised murder, and god help you if you don’t get on that tubthumping bandwagon a month before the 11th. and celebrate our latest illegal venture and the deaths of all involved.
Like Christmas has zero to do with anything other than a very modern celebration of greed, the poppy has nothing to do with senselessly spilled blood and everything to do with the glorification of death.
Fascist thought dressed up as patriotism, the last refuge of scoundrels.
There is a picture of Jim Whyte at CP on the day the 10 was stopped. He looks absolutely sick (and I don’t mean that in a yoof speak way). Probably working for STV at the time
fud Melrose nearly caused a riot at Tannadice, after a GIRUY sign to us behind the goals.
KevJungle @1609
Tend to agree with your assesment of the Celtic team of the 1984/85 season.
With a couple of additions a good side could have been a very good side.
2nd in the league;
Cup winners;
ECWC quarter finalists – could have gone all the way to the final – the name Rapid Vienna still leaves a bitter taste in the mouth!
HH!!
Pfayr – the guy waving the flag has a balaclava on! Could you imagine if Celtic put up a pic of a balaclava clad man waving a tri-colour on the website to accompany a statement?

I think I know the one you refer to – ashen-faced to say the least.
There is also a photo of the 6 v 2 game (I think) where Chico Young is visible in the background near the tunnel whilst the stadium erupts for yet another goal. he looks as if he is about to vomit.
Jim white = hun fits the duck analogy,
if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck…………
was a school friend of an old boss of mine and midfield maestro’s. 100% hun.
Good afternoon/evening friends and I trust we are all well.
Just subscribed for the ole magazine so no spoiling it for me now. Hope it arrives before any of the news is out of date mind you!

Didn’t notice that initially…crazy
Looks like they are having to appeal to the lowest common denominator
Soon that’s all they’ll have left
TBB,
Celtic full backs. I generally agree your assessment of the quality of our fbs of the period; personally, however, I always thought Sinclair was a good player.

Agree entirely

HEARTS owner Vladimir Romanov last night launched yet another withering attack on Scottish referees, accusing them of benefitting financially from the Old Firm.
The Tynecastle club have fallen foul of Scottish football’s authorities for failing to pay their players on time on several occasions, face an upcoming HMRC tax case and have serious financial issues.
However, none of that seems to bother Romanov, who chose to dwell on what he believes are the failings of Scottish officials. In an interview with Russian newspaper Izvestia, the controversial Baltic businessman had another blast at the Scottish game He said: “Sport has become showbusiness. I went to Scotland and bought a football team and I thought it wouldn’t be like that there. But no, it’s the same everywhere. No democracy. The referees there take money out of the top two teams and we expect them to judge fairly. Scottish referees have to love Rangers and Celtic. Otherwise, it’s the end of their career and they go down to the lower leagues. But it isn’t possible to change the situation there.
“You try to fight the system, but the machine breaks you. As soon as I said what I thought, the mafia creeps up on you. If you try and break their showbusiness structure there, everyone turns against you and then your team has to fight the whole system.”
Romanov has launched into several rants about Scottish referees and the media in the past. In October 2006, Hearts were fined £10,000 by the SFA for bringing the game into disrepute after further criticism of match officials. A £25,000 fine from the Scottish Premier League followed in February 2007 after accusations of the “buying off” of match officials and the club were fined £100,000 last year for their poor disciplinary record.
Meanwhile, Romanov claimed again that he almost bought Liverpool last year. He explained: “I had the opportunity to buy Liverpool for as little as £200 million. Frankly, I then got scared. After a few days, the price had gone to three times that value and I realised that missed my chance. I already own Hearts in Edinburgh and the Scottish football fans and the public love me.”
Having done virtually no work this afternoon, I think the only honourable thing for me to do now is to go home early.
Sound like a good plan?
Pedro…..
