New manager needs to meet players before the summer

262

A team filled with a high number of loaners and players entering the final year of their contracts with intentions of moving to England is not an ideal squad for the new manager to inherit.  There is, however, benefit to him walking into a morale-depleted Lennoxtown than starting after 15 May, when players leave for their summer conversations with their agents.

Even if the new manager is resigned to losing those entering the final year of their contracts, with Champions League qualification starting on 21 July, he will likely have to work with them for some important games.

By now, Celtic will have a very clear idea of whom they want to appoint.  They also know the cost to delaying much longer.  It would take an exceptional candidate to induce me to wait beyond the end of the season.  Players should ideally leave for the summer with an idea of what will be expected of them between now and the transfer window closing.  This, more than supporter sentiment or season ticket renewals is reason to make the decision now.

We’re all part of the colourful spectrum or as someone posted more eloquently, 40 shades of green, sometimes it gets heated some times worse but I think, in the main, we all want the same thing.

Tomorrow it will be 70 days since NL “resigned”, 70 days surely someone in the boardroom has managed to pin the tail on the donkey by now

Been a busy work day in London today however that part of my brain and heart which is reserved for all things Celtic is still hurting over the unfolding events of this year.

I was reflecting on nearly 70 years of faithfully following this club. Scrub that sentence it was a lot more than simply following Celtic. It is part of my DNA. I am certain that in the years ahead we will discover what exactly transpired around want away players, the. Brendan Rodgers- Peter Lawwell fiasco and the role of an insipid Board. It will all come out in the wash and a younger generation of Celtic fans will hear the truth from those who have lived through these times.

Anyway- night is darkest just before the dawn – a line from a song still heartily sung at Celtic Park.

The real reason for coming on briefly tonight was to mark the passing of Frank Brogan at age 79. Frank’s had Celtic in his blood. He was a pacy winger but he had the heart and defiance of John Doyle and whilst his brother Jim would go on to have more success at Celtic Frank represented something which I could relate to. He was fearless in his promotion of Celtic and he played like his very life depended on it.

I am blessed to have seen him play and also to display a love and attitude to those green and white colours that would have shamed all those who stepped on to the I Rox pitch on Sunday.

    God bless you Frank Brogan.

    Brilliant from city tonight.

I know we can’t get a coach of that level.

    But my god

Must say Man City handled those PSG games well. God help us if the two finals are all English😵😱😯

  7. Don’t usually watch PSG as i loathe Neymars antics, but tonight was luvvly jubbly .

Obscene amount of money on display ( in players wages ) but scintillating skills , pace and desire on show .

Once upon a time we matched MAN C ,hard to believe how far we’ve regressed.

the cup final of 2019, i am astounded often that people recall being deflated at the announcement of Neil.

Inside the stadium , a long prolonged One Neil Lennon chant went on and on, with thousands still in the park.

    ———————————————————————————————-

I honestly don’t see the 2 emotions being in conflict

We were delighted for Neil, he answered the call and got us over the line. A great achievement that should have cemented his ‘legacy’ (before the term became indicative of this season).

I do however remember a very subdued support at Crosshill Station when the news of his contact emerged from the showers. No one was expecting it, IMHO the Board had simply misjudged the mood of the support.

Cant usually be bothered with overhyped young players but the boy Fodden is imo a bit special , anyone remember the rumours of him coming to Celtic on loan ? Hugely talented but seemingly very grounded young man great to watch him blossom .

    MARSPAPA-couldn’t agree more buddy.

I will never forget our 3-3 game in champions league.

I’m pretty sure other managers/coaches set up different after watching it.

We certainly did, I have relatives who are City ST holders and managed to get me tickets. One of my fond memories of that away game was when every Celtic fan put on their mobile flashlights to celebrate Lisbon.

At that point the home support realised how many bhoys were in the park😂😂😂😂😂

Great trip, with my eldest son but atmosphere started off tense and quickly developed into poisonous. Felt for our fans in the City section adjacent to away end, picked off by some pretty odious individuals with no protection from GMP or stewards.

MARSPAPA-hi pal- might have been me.

    I played poor as usual.

I might have a few wee jobs for you if you’re interested.

  16. Surprised but heartened to read that we’ve banned that wee Walker……………

Oh yes there was some unsavoury incidents even I was involved. One bhoy went tonto when we scored and got dogs abuse, fair enough you are in the away end.

Clown beside me heard my accent and started his pish, however I kindly reminded him that the polis were too far away to help him if he continued. There ended the conversation😱

Awesome night,,,, as are the European nights under the floodlights at Parkhead .

Liverpool at home was immense , Barcelona i could go on ,the imaginative banners from the GB also……jeez canny wait to meet up wae the Grey brigade .

It puts the fire back in the belly when you look back at seasons gone by .

This season has left a bad taste for different reasons , if the board get it right this time and learn from the many errors they made we can get back on top in the league , personally i think it will be a minimum of 2 seasons before we make inroads of making a fist of it in the Europa league.

And by a fist of it i mean no totally embarrassing performances.

    I live in hope ….

Know what you mean to an extent – however the irony is that he is apparently banned for saying something most of us would absolutely agree with – the Dubai trip. Just the huff by the Board because it was a personal criticism.
