BELGIAN international Koen Casteels is the latest name to be added to Celtic’s wanted list as they search for a replacement for Joe Hart.
The 31-year-old keeper ended his nine-year career at Bundesliga club Wolfsburg at the weekend and is now a free agent.
Casteels, capped eight times by his country, has already held talks with Anderlecht over a return to his homeland.
The experienced netminder refused to confirm or deny any interest from the three-in-a-row Scottish champions, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
FANFARE…Joe Hart (extreme right) acknowledges the farewell gesture from the Celtic supporters.
Casteels, speaking to the Bundelsiga outfit’s website, admitted: “I don’t have a new club yet. We’ve already held initial talks, but it’s not 100 per cent certain which club I’ll be playing for next season.”
Joe Hart will have his last hurrah as a Celt in the Scottish Cup Final against Philippe Clement’s Ibrox side at Hampden on Saturday when he brings down the curtain on his three years at Parkhead.
The 37-year-old shotsopper, who has won three titles, two League Cups and a Scottish Cup, is looking to bow out with seventh domestic honour following his impressive stay after oining in a cut-price £1.5million move from Spurs in August 2021.
The guessing game for his successor is in full flow with Southampton’s Alex McCarthy, veteran Asmir Begovic, a free agent after leaving Queens Park Rangers, and Motherwell’s Liam Kelly also mentioned.
Others named are Burnley’s Arijanet Muric, Etienne Vaessen, of Waalwijk, and Turkish No.1 Ugurcan Cakir, of Trabzonspor.
Expect others to be added to the list before the deal is eventually done.
