Newco born from patronage of monetary inducements

740

Let’s be clear about what is going to happen on Friday.  Monetary inducements are being made to allow a newly created company to advance its football team two divisions up the league structure.

The overwhelming majority of money to pay for these financial inducements will be taken from Celtic, who vehemently oppose all these measures.  The SPL will reduce the commercial distribution to the top club in the league and pay-off everyone else.  41 teams will benefit financially from this proposition, only Celtic will lose.

For good measure, the SPL have declined to take gate sharing off the table.  Up to 30% of your season ticket money will soon be commandeered by Kilmarnock, Motherwell and the rest, who will take their slice and share some with the lower leagues.

All the while you can scarcely find a football fan of any club who is anything other than disgusted by this shoddy behaviour; Celtic fans are by no means isolated.  Most fans of former-club, Rangers, don’t want to see a phoenix assisted by such blatant patronage, lest Newco is forever known as a team which needed rules to be changed and money taken from Celtic to give it life.

Believe me, if Newco exists for 100 years, every day they score a goal someone will say, “They are only there because the rules were changed to help them and money was taken from Celtic to pay for it”.

They will forever be known as the Establishment club with definitive evidence that they benefited from the Establishment’s help.

The once-proud era of Scottish league football is surely over, what we are witnessing is merely evidence of this fact.  ‘Sport’ as gone from our football. Fans, clubs and the national bodies must accept this reality and start to make forward plans to breathe the oxygen of genuine competition into our game.

Where is Michel Platini when football really needs some help?

On the SFL Egm and a question referring to Regan’s reply to CST on club licencing this is from rtc blog.

    I suspect chicanery.

The SFA will not be able to grant a licence to Sevco under licensing rules.

I have no idea what criteria are for granting Membership but know that if a league grants membership of the league, that such an action confers membership of the SFA.

Note that Regan says the league, in the case in question the SPL, has similar licensing criteria but Im betting it is not so rigid and the SFA are avoiding refusing a licence and will argue that if a league grants membership then ipso facto licensing criteria under the leagues rules mean a licence automatically comes with it.

I need to check if the SPL have the same as but separate process from the SFA, which beggars the question why? Is licencing not the SFAs job?

I suspect the SFL Egm is being used to hide that the SFA cannot issue a licence but will take a yes vote that the SFL is happy to do it or take the risk.

This is why the EGM is unlawful under Article 9 of FIFA rules (and its 9 in the 2011 version) which says principles of promotion relegation cannot be delegated to Leagues, they are not competent to decide and are conflicted in doing so, on such decisions. The matter of a club licence, which gives assurances of the viability of clubs HAS to be the responsibility of the SFA alone in order to dont laugh, protect sporting integrity.

This EGM that will decide on a league placement is unlawful imo as it transgress ALL four points of principle in the Article 19.

    IMO,well played,Eddie.

It reminds me of the League Cup Semi, about 2001,when we beat the huns 3-1 despite a dubious pen and Lubo being sent off for being kicked too often-admittedly,they had two players sent off,and I’m still not convinced that our penalty was legit.

Returning to Kilwinning after the game,my Dad and I went into MY pub-not his-and I sat down with my mates who were all huns while he stood at the bar with an O-L-D friend talking politics, until a choob threatened him!

The following day,he apologised to me,but refused to apologise to my Dad.

I had to kick him out three times before he reakised I wasn’t kidding.

A big difference between Eddie’s circumstances and mine was that I knew that being right meant I couldnae lose-I knew who I was up against.

Eddie was outnumbered, and his suspicions as to their occupation were well worth bearing in mind.

Anyway point of the story was that his daughter now gets a free season ticket, as he is a season ticket holder. His wife is also a season ticket holder and as such if they had another kid that one would also get a free season ticket!

For less than the price of my season ticket (think it was £588 i paid a few weeks back) he gets 3 season tickets – his, his wife’s and his daughter’s.

    Trust Rangers newco consultation results

Thanks to all Trust members who took part in the vote on the Rangers newco interest in joining the SFL, the results of whcih are as follows:

    1) Direct entry into SFL 1 = 2%

    2) Direct entry into SFL 3 = 23%

    3) Consideration for admittance into SLF 3 if a vacancy exists, in competition with other eligible clubs who may also wish to seek admission, with the successful applicant being selected following a vote by member clubs = 70%

    4) Reject Rangers newco admittance into the SFL =5%

Option 3 got the most support by a substantial majority. As we reported on Thursday, we carried out the consultation at short notice because at that time the BRFC board had planned to meet on Saturday prior to the home friendly against Hearts U20s. That game was subsequently called off due to the weather and the board has deferred its meeting until Tuesday 10th July.

The results of the Trust onsultation will be made known to the FC board, as promised, and will be asking them to take full account of the views expressed by you, our members, when they decide the best position for Berwick Rangers FC going forward. The SFL meeting to decide on Rangers’ status, in light of the SPL’s abdication of all responsibility for that decision, will take place at Hamden on Friday.

I’ve been a season ticket holder for the past three seasons but I’ve moved to Belgium, only a couple of hours drive to Amsterdam, so haven’t renewed for this season. When asking to buy a ticket for the Ajax game, the ticket office made no allowances for this a turned me down despite all the money I’ve spent on the club in the past seasons!

Thankfully, the Dutch lady who spoke perfect English at Ajax was very helpful, and said there was one section that anyone could go to in the stadium, albeit in the Ajax end, though she did advise me that it is the section right next to the Celtic end!

So if there is any European Celtic fans out there who haven’t been able to get tickets for the game due to the season book only rule (for a preseason friendly!) then there is a way by buying tickets from Ajax!

ernie lynch – In the USA at least things have got worse for the working class compared to the 1940s.

Ernie, you strike me as an intelligent man so I can only assume that sustaining such a belief takes intellectual acrobatics of Chomskian proportions.

The working class in the United States today are among the richest and most privileged people on the planet. They are orders of magnitude richer than their 1940’s predecessors, with massively improved living standards to prove it.

Not that the USA is a perfect society of course. But in the 40’s, the average person’s problems were largely problems of scarcity: of food, money, etc. Today, the average person is more likely to face problems caused by abundance, such as obesity.

By almost any measure: life expectancy, health, purchasing power, housing, options for leisure and entertainment, you’d much rather be a blue collar American in 2012 than in 1942.

Added bonus: we aren’t in the midst of a horrific, genocidal, global war.

I enjoy donning the old rose tinted spectacles as much as anybody, but the past wasn’t all that great, and the present is much better than is popularly believed. (thumbsup)

The club, who has long fluctuated between the second and third division, experienced a difficult time in the early 2000s, suffering relegation to the fourth division for two seasons. FCA recovered from this, returning to professional football by 2006. After FC Augsburg missed out on promotion to Bundesliga in the relegation playoffs 2010, the club finally reached the top tier in 2011 and surprisingly resisted relegation in the following season.

Philvis- I think the quality of the American experience may depend on the colour [color?] of your skin.

One of the good things about the conflict you describe from the US point of view was that with the industrial effort involved in becoming the ‘arsenal of Democracy’ wages and employment soared, enabling the country to recover from the slump of the 20s/30s.

  26. philvisreturns on 9 July, 2012 at 14:18 said:

When you get time to watch the video you’ll learn that in real terms wages in the USA have flatlined since the 1970’s.

The increase in working class living standards since then is accounted for by a combination of more women going out to work (ie two breadwinners per household that hitherto had one), more overtime, people having more than one job, and finally, increased borrowing.

People in the 40’s had the reasonable expectation that they’d be better off than their parents’ generation and that in turn their children would be better off than them. That’s no longer the case.
