Newco cannon fodder plans

804

While I was busy telling one of my first bosses how much money we were going to make in a year or two, he made a comment which has remained with me since, “If you don’t make some sales next month, we’ll not be around to find out if you’re right.”

Plans for 2022 don’t mean a fart to a company which is haemorrhaging cash, billionaire funders, nomads and auditors, all the consequence of a two year war of attrition as newco Rangers tried to fight off an insurrection.

There are literally thousands of metrics you can use to compare the prospects of football clubs but let me draw your eye to a couple, which will give you real insight into the future.

Last season Celtic had 475 “full time equivalents” in employment, 318 people in non-football roles and a further 157 in football operations (players, coaches etc.).  If the average pay of those 318 non-football full-time staff was £25k (I doubt it’s this low), their combined wage bill would be just below £8m.  Celtic’s total annual wage bill was £37.766m, total operating expenses were £59.885m.

If you want to win the Scottish Premiership, this is what you’re competing against.

Newco Rangers announced operating expenses (before amortisation) of £15.684m for the six months to 31 December, which included £6.7m wages, covering both football and non-football staff.  If the figures for the second half of the year are consistent with the first that would give them around £31m income and a £13.4m spend wages.  Income is around half Celtic’s expenses and wages a fraction of Celtic’s

What newco need is tens of millions of pounds of investor cash, the £50m Dave King spoke about ‘when in opposition’ is not an overestimate.

Anything they say before “Here is the £50m investment we need” is there to take attention away from the fact that they haven’t said “Here is the £50m investment we need”.  When they say that, they’re in the game, until then, they’re cannon fodder.  When they stop talking about the £50m needed, they know it’s not coming.

Celtic would receive 12million euros plus 0.5million euros for every point gained in the group stage of next seasons CL.

A further 5.5m plus points for the final 16, due to proposed increased revenue.

This excludes match day profits, including ticketing.

for a bit of fun, how about someone start a rumor that there is a clause in SuperAlly’s contract that he gets paid $500,000 if Sevco get promoted this season, and he is insisting upon his full contractual rights ….

there would be a few heads exploding round govan way….

  7. On the loan of five players with expressed aim of helping to win promotion for which the lending club makes makes a good return, is this actually fair on the other clubs wanting promotion?

If you are a “big” club and the cost to you of being promoted is 5x the weekly wage plus a 500k payout that is only paid if you can afford it from future earnings from that promotion, how is that allowable under fair play? I appreciate the rules allow it but I’m talking principles here.

Is it right not to pay the full cost of those players weekly wage (ie include the bonus)that is actually unaffordable in order to move to affordability?

If you don’t have a credit line to borrow money to buy players because of past financial foolishness, is this the way around the principle of affordability which underpins financial fair play that Scottish football seems reluctant to embrace.

If all other clubs are living by an affordability principle how is it fair that one club is able to find ways of not observing that principle going back 15 years and still operates by avoiding it?

There is just something not right or fair about such an arrangement.

Numerous bonuses were paid for gaining promotion from 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd…………

would anyone be surprised if similar wasn’t in place for promotion to 1st?

As the old saying goes ” if nothing changes nothing changes” as a club the the Rangers have not changed one thing about how they operate…

Paul Murray’s statement today should be manna from heaven for any journalist worth his salt unfortunately there isn’t one in Scottish football reporting..

‘He has a 7 year plan which will need up front funding. Institutional funding is now out of the question so it will have to be via The Rangers people, wealthy investors and fan based small shareholders. As we know, there have been constant queues of these people dying to invest for several years.’

I have a wee theory about the dearth of RRM of wealth, willing to ‘invest’ in (i.e. donate to) Sevco: it is that any right thinking and self-aware follow-follower knows that backing this enterprise is to embark upon a doomed project: it would be – quite literally – to buy into a project which is wholly anachronistic and fraught with all sorts of dilemmas (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dilemma#Types_of_dilemmas).

In other words, I believe that – at one level or another – they realise that to do so would be to attempt to sustain a brand that is not only destined for financial failure, but reeks of moral turpitude …

Im hoping someone on here with a bit of legal knowledge (property) can help me. I’m currently in dispute with the ‘queens lord treasurers remembrancer’ (it sounds so old I was expecting oliver feckin cromwell battering my door down) Theres apparently only a handful of solicitors employed by them but I’m struggling to find out who the actual qltr is and what ministry they function under, is it London based or does it come under Scottish jurisdiction ?

Sorry for a boring legal question but any help would be greatly appreciated

  25. As much as the Scottish Government and Glasgow and Edinburgh City Councils would love nothing better than to bring an end to Orange parades, they aren’t going to do it any time soon, because of the civil unrest that would ensue.

Similarly, Rangers will never disappear completely. There will always be a form of Rangers kicking a ball and a Pope for many years to come, no matter how many times the current version dies and is replaced by a new incarnation.

Once you accept that, you can get on with really enjoying their demise and unwrapping the gift that keeps on giving.

I accepted the fact well over a year ago, which is why I refuse to waste my time and Celtic’s time by joining in the regular calls for the club to make a statement every time the current man in charge at Ibrox farts. It is why I am able to get on with supporting Celtic, happy in the knowledge that we are many years ahead of them and many times better, both financially and on the park.

I laugh at them on a daily basis. I savour their pain and the pain of their media backers. I revel in their ever renewing optimism as they wake up to each new false dawn, fed to them by those very same media backers, only to be brought crashing back to earth once again by that thing called reality.

I remind myself that they will be in our shadows and scrapping for crumbs off our table for many years to come.

I ask my fellow CQNers. Do like I and many others have done. Stop wasting your life away hoping for them to disappear. Accept that they will always be there and once you do, you can start to enjoy the laughter. Not only yours, but the laughter of your children.

They are nothing to us now. They are finished as a challenge and only serve to entertain us as a drunk man repeatedly falling over made us laugh as kids. Accept that and start to enjoy the ride instead of waiting for the impossible.

    You know it makes sense.
