Newco: Dead in the water

466

Your grandad will tell you Jock Stein was master of the news the week before a big derby game.  He would seed positive news stories about players or the club to make sure everyone had a spring in their step and to put pressure on opponents.

Graeme Murty is not the master of his own domain, so has few levers to pull in this respect, but he must have despaired when news broke that Newco were unable to retain a 21-year-old central defender they bought from Raith Rovers in January 2017.

Newco are dead in the water if they cannot retain recruits from Raith Rovers who have played a dozen league games for them this season.  Dead. In. The. Water.  They cannot buy the finished product, they cannot even compete for the French youth international talent Celtic seem partial to.

The only team development strategy available to them is to develop, retain and benefit from young domestic talent.  And according to Murty, they cannot afford to offer competitive wages for David Bates.

They couldn’t even convince him to keep his contract business to himself for a few days until after his team face Celtic tomorrow.  What a hopeless shower.

    Tomorrow is a dangerous engagement.

Such is the Good of the Game Cabal’s desire to halt our treble, that every obstacle will be put in our way.

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that, should we prevail tomorrow, @Well would be their preferred opponent for us.

They would reckon, rightly so, that the Steelmen would offer a sterner and more robust challenge.

How else can you explain the first two goals?

Is Clancy such a poor ref?

Nothing less that ninety minutes of full concentration and endeavour tomorrow will do.

It will only a the final whistle that we can say that we were better than them.

Yesterday has gone, tomorrow is what it is about.

  3. Paul 67,

With respect we should be concentrating on out team on the eve of a crucial semi final.

I sincerely hope that BR will not go into this game thinking they’re a hopeless shower.

I know one of Whiteinch Demolition’s directors he’s a monkey hun bassa of the highest order.

His mother was a catholic and so was his best mate as soon as his mother died,he dumped his best mate of 20 odd years and joined the masons. A wee Tam Cowan lookalike monkey with no class.

  5. Well done to Motherwell today, they play to their strengths and appear to have a good team spirit. Once again McInnes shown to be a paper tiger of a coach; lauded by the media for god knows what. He’s quick to spout about the gap in budgets when we beat him, I wonder what Motherwell are run on…

Fantastic G check with BMCUWP re digs!!

  8. Want tomorrow done and dusted, never enjoy these games unless we’re 5 up with about a minute left. I can’t stand the attention they get as the media try and hark back to the EBT years.

Turn up hungry and get them beat, then we can focus on a title party and historic double treble. If we play the way we can Madden will be taken out of the equation but if it’s tight well that’s another story.

This campaign, should we prevail, will probably never be equaled …..and that, to our detractors, is their Appalling Vista.

A day for Thousand Yard stares and cold blooded efficiency.

  11. 18,470 Attendance at Hampden today, <40% full. Embarrassing. Why don’t they play these semi finals at Tynecastle or Easter Road? Still wouldn’t fill them but not far short of sell out.

Saw mention of Peter Weir earlier(DD)………..agree on his abilities, not seen much of Lewis Morgan but there are similarities in their style of going past opponents and the sure two footedness of both……….here’s hoping he can progress to that level.

Quite a good response from the Aberdeen and Motherwell fans in support of boycotting Hampden.

  18. Several of our players owe BR and the rest of us a big performance. Tired of reading this season about “If Celtic show up they will win . . .” and then seeing Brown and KT having to play out of their skins to cover for those around them who are playing well below what is required of them. Scott Sinclair and MD destroyed Sevco last season – they were unplayable and lethal in front of goal. That is what we need tomorrow. Unrelenting pressure that leaves them begging for the final whistle. This game should not be anywhere near to being close. Bury them. Please.

As far as the ref goes, Brown will be sent off tomorrow if Madden gets a chance. The Levein outburst is coming to its natural conclusion. He is fair game for being assaulted but if he retaliates he will be off.

I’d play Paddy tomorrow ahead of James. He will be ready for it and has far too much in hi locker for them to cope with.

    5-1 to the good guys.

  19. The Buddies having a pitch invasion. Hope the Livi boys don’t react like the huns. (They won’t, been at the almondvale loads of times. Decent bunch)

Says in all the papers that David Bates is a money grabber?

He was a vast improvement replacing Bruno Alves at Celtic Park when

we got beaten in the 0-0 game, maybe Hamburg will get put on the banned
