Newco: Dead in the water

466

Your grandad will tell you Jock Stein was master of the news the week before a big derby game.  He would seed positive news stories about players or the club to make sure everyone had a spring in their step and to put pressure on opponents.

Graeme Murty is not the master of his own domain, so has few levers to pull in this respect, but he must have despaired when news broke that Newco were unable to retain a 21-year-old central defender they bought from Raith Rovers in January 2017.

Newco are dead in the water if they cannot retain recruits from Raith Rovers who have played a dozen league games for them this season.  Dead. In. The. Water.  They cannot buy the finished product, they cannot even compete for the French youth international talent Celtic seem partial to.

The only team development strategy available to them is to develop, retain and benefit from young domestic talent.  And according to Murty, they cannot afford to offer competitive wages for David Bates.

They couldn’t even convince him to keep his contract business to himself for a few days until after his team face Celtic tomorrow.  What a hopeless shower.

  1. And on to the more important matters of the day. Celtic to reign supreme with a hard fought, and lucky, 7-0 victory.

    I’ll take 2-0.

  2. Good morning friends. Another day that The Lord has made. Another opportunity to Rejoice and be glad in it.

In sport there is no divine right to win anything. On most occasions it will be the best team that wins. Today we simply need to be the best team out of the 2 that will be on the park.

  3. In managing expectations and appreciating the task in hand we face today,

perhaps it is worth remembering that we come up against two opponents today – the rainjurrz and scoddland.

For the guid o’ scoddish foo’ball it is vital that the Tims get beat, ( doesn’t really matter how, the win’s the thing).

After the whistle sounds and it kicks-off…it is anyone’s guess how the 90 plus minutes will unfold but we can expect them to be characteristically rabid, in our faces and ferocious in the tackle……confident that initial transgressions will be overlooked. Boaby wull be a big player for thums……..

Celtic can expect to be penalised for first offences, often sight unseen.

I expect a tight, bad tempered game where unless we dominate the midfield we will see hunned-up brutality and stuffy sleekit resistance from the grizzly bears, especially the season buik hun with a whistle…….. As much as i’d love it ( really love it) I don’t see us steam-rollering thums……….I think it’ll be nip and tuck with genuine goodness and quality being the difference.

Here’s to a Tim victory and a right good drink later!

  4. Don’t give der hun a sniff I think we have actually made them look better than they actually are when we’ve played them. So no complacency 100% commitment & focus today Celtic .That should overcome 300% brawn & lack of skill plus dropping like flies when touched

  6. Sipsini,

Hope it’s a fantastic return to action for you today.

You old Bhoys are getting too fragile for the old Euro away games :-)

Seriously though, glad you’re back to full health, and look forward to catching up before the end of the season .

Hope we stick it to ’em hard today. Hard and often.

Clearly, they neither like it up thum or can deal with it bein’ put up to thum.

It’s good to be a Tim.

My sister and I took her pal Liz to that Celtic v Liverpool memorial match. Liz was from a Knightswood hun family and at her first Celtic game. Her dad was raging that she was going to a Celtic match in Paradise. Today Liz is as big a Celtic fan as you and I. She saw the difference between Celtic and her dad”s team Rangers that day, and at 19 year old, converted to Celtic for life. Hope she is celebrating today in her dad’s house.

  11. An important game today, as all semi finals are, I expect it to be tighter than it should be, BM will be in the spotlight from the get go.

It’s important for me too that we vanquish the pretend cheats as they should be nowhere near a cup semi final and without their placement all through the stinking rotten game they would be nowhere near a semi final.

It’s important too that we beat them and extinguish any hope they might have of “closing the gap”

No quarter asked today Celtic and none given, the Double treble is only a few games away, let’s make history!

Come on Brendan and his Bhoys give us a day to be proud of..

We are in a hostile environment – it would be helpful if we could avoid attacking each other.

I’d go further and say we should foster a wider Tim alliance of ourselves, Dundee Hibernian and Hibs (and East Kilbride).

The Huns, and their press lapdogs, like to sow division – we shouldn’t help them.

  24. This tv thing is doing my nut in. Any help appreciated:

Thought the game was on Sky main event which I have through BT. Schedules say it’s not.

Thought BBC might have it. Appears not.

Is it on Sky sports extra which never appears to have anything on it as far as I can see?

    Failing that, any sausages?

I pay through the nose to watch Celtic on tv and they are hardly ever on. Lesson learned. What I pay would account for a large part of a Season book. Maybe not the transport to get over but a few changes planned for the coming year might see me back in Alba a bit more than I have been in the last decade or more. To hell with this crappy tv deal.

Any advice on getting today’s game would be appreciated.
